Syllabus
Description This course is designed to introduce knowledge and elementary mathematical tools to understand,
analyze, and solving problem in business, finance, and decision making in an investment. The course
MA 1203 are the second math course in Management Department ITB. Students will be given insights
related to system of linear equation, difference and differential equations, and numerical methods.
The emphasis is mainly on maximizing an objective function, interpolating, and decision making. This
course will be divided into four main subjects
1. Linear Programming
2. Interpolation
3. Economics Dynamics
4. Financial Mathematics
As an outcome of the course, students are expected to have
1. appreciation towards mathematics and its wide application in business and economics,
2. mathematical skill that is supported by appropriate concepts and methods,
3. critical, logical, and systematical thinking,
4. creativity in problem solving,
5. ability to communicate in both oral and writing,
6. ability to utilize other learning sources as books and internet, and readiness to learn other
courses which has mathematics as prerequisite.
Evaluation Temporary Final mark (FM) of maximum 100 points is determined through the following components:
1. Midterm Examination (𝑀𝐸): 40%
2. Final Examination (𝐹𝐸): 40%
3. Assignments, homework, quiz, group discussion, activeness: 20%.
Final Grade 𝐴 ∶ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 ≥ 80; 𝐴𝐵 ∶ 73 ≤ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 80; 𝐵 ∶ 65 ≤ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 73; 𝐵𝐶 ∶ 57 ≤ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 65
𝐶 ∶ 50 ≤ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 57; 𝐷 ∶ 35 ≤ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 50; 𝐸 ∶ 𝑇𝐹𝑀 < 35
Notes For those who get an E, there will be a Remedial Test. The Final Mark (FM) will be determined as
follows: FM= max {TFM, (TFM + RM) / 2} where RM is remedial mark.
The grade will become D: FM≥35, E: FM <35.
