Sol sol sol fallera (Norway)

Sun greeting song

This a traditional Norwegian song game for children. You will find it and many more on
this site: http://www.nordicsounds.info which is full of Nordic songs and games to apply
in class. I learned the song during the presentation of the website at the International
Orff-Schulwerk Forum in Salzburg.

The song is a canon that admits entries at multiple distances.

Jerigonza (Spain)
This is the adapted and simplified version of a traditional Galician dance called Jerigonza.
A version closer to the original but a little more complicated to play is detailed below.
The original lyrics are of course in Galician.
The coda is an addition of mine to ease children to change partners in addition to
working the interval of 5th J.
On the other hand, the dance version proposed in two concentric circles is due to
didactic purposes. It takes elements of the original dance but it is not 100 % rigorous.

Welcome! (Avon Gillespie)

You will find two versions. The first one has four voices and a lot of body percussion
possibilities. You don’t have to play them all at the same time. Some of them work
nicely also in canon.

Monster’s game
Once upon a time there were some very special space explorers who were discovering
new planets and their inhabitants.
The most important thing they had to do was to get the friendship of these inhabitants.
After much thinking they decided to always present themselves with music. After all,
music is the universal language and they did not want to generate misunderstandings.
It was important to make clear his friendly intentions.

Fist of all you create the monsters and then you can create stories or music related to
them.
Instructions to create the monsters:
1. Choose a thing of what is missing: eyes, nose, mouth, ears, arms or legs.

2. Roll the dice and discover how many of them you should draw. Ting!!!!

3. Say goodbye and pass it to your partner.

Question/Answer game.

Cae una gotita de agua (Teresita Fernández). https://youtu.be/M0QM9jGbvIo

I learned the song from Raúl Cabrera. He accompanies the song with body percussion
imitating the sound of water drops with his mouth.

Cae una gotica de agua A drop of water falls

Otra gota y muchas más Another drop and many more
Si se botan (bajan) de una nube If they get off the cloud
Es porque lloviendo (contenta) está. It's because it's raining

Con la lluvia crece el río With the rain the river grows
Y las ranitas hacen croa croa And the little frogs make croa croa
Y despierta la matica (plantita) And the little plant wakes up
Que duerme en la semillita It sleeps in the little seed
Que acabamos de sembrar. That we just planted.

Hand game “It´s raining” – From Raúl Cabrera

I learned the song also from Raúl Cabrera. You can accompany the song with a
handgame that can be complicated by doing it in pairs or in a circle. We made a video
with it during the course.

It's raining on the mountain

It's raining on the road
Don't get wet little boy
when the rains come.
take an umbrella
maybe two or more
Don't get wet little boy
when the rains come.

© Barbara Haselbach

 1. Warm up and sensibilisation for all following activities in dancing; body

integration.
 2. Experiencing and learning the parameter of Music and Dance in a physical
(holistic) way.
 3. Learning basic movement/dance technique with or without music and
speech.
 4. Improvising movement/dance with or without music and speech.
 5. Reproducing dance forms with/or without music and speech
 6. Creating (choreographing) dance with or without music and speech.
 7. Scenic presentation of stories, fairy tales, picture books etc. with or without
music and speech.
 8. Integrating the arts.
And I have to add:
 9. Correction by the teacher and observation-reflection by the student.
“Learning by doing is not sufficient - I'd say 'learning by doing, and then
reflecting'” - see J.Wiggins Teaching for musical understanding, 2000
Reflecting is useful for both, teacher and student.

Orff-Schulwerk characteristics, with little or no weight in other musical pedagogies.

Barbara Haselbach and Wolfgang Hartmann,
Orff-Schulwerk Forum, Salzburg - July 2013

 The child is at the center: It is not primarily specialist music or dance training,
but the enrichment of the whole person through means of expression with
music and dance
 The social dimension: The processes of learning, working and creating are
primarily experienced in the group and demand and develop appropriate
behavior and attitudes.
 Music as an integral concept: In ancient Greek "Musikè" means singing,
dancing, playing instruments, language but also includes the integrating
proximity to other artistic forms.
 The instruments: By providing appropriate instruments that can be experienced
playfully and that do not have technical obstacles. The possibility of artistic
expression with instruments can be included in the work.
 The form of teaching as a "process“: The students are creatively involved in the
work process and thereby also determine the direction and the result. In Orff-
Schulwerk the work process and the artistic results have the same importance.
 Creativity in improvisation and composition (including dance composition): The
teaching creates opportunities for the student to experience him/herself as a
creator and co-creator.
 Adaptability of Orff-Schulwerk: Orff-Schulwerk sees itself as an 'open pedagogy'
that is applicable in its principles in all educational fields of work, and can also
be assimilated in different cultures.
