 ENVIROMENTAL PULUTION- POLUTION CHICAMOCHA RIVER

I like this topic because is very important in the currently, this problem of the humanity,

however we don´t make awareness and continue doing nothing.

Also, this topic I want speak about the importance of the rivers in the world but, specially

in Boyacá (Tunja).

In Tunja we don´t have awarness about the environmental pulution and example of this is

the river Chicamocha that cross the city, this river is one to the more poluted in the country.

Born in the city of Tunja.

Then forms the Chicamocha Canyon , entering Santander and joins with Suárez and fronce

rivers and thus forming the Sogamoso River .

the river Chicamocha this river crosses the country from end to end and is also one of the

most polluted in the world since the total of the water is not allowed for human

consumption due to the large amount of pollutants present in the but if use the water to

irrigate vegetables and animal consumption thus they reach humans. The river arrives at

Tuta, this water is used to wet the plants and for the animals.

However sewage waters arrive to the humans.

This river is the second most contaminated river across the country , so it should not be

your fit for human consumption water, but the government has refused to do so much

because of this.

Some of it´s pollutants are pesticides, car oil, wasted coal, and other chemicals.

In Duitama and Sogamoso takes a black color and shape muddy.

In Tunja receives the Jordan river, the river have sewage and hospital wastes.

Tunja , Duitama and Sogamoso provide 90 % of pollutants into the river to travexz of

sewage discharges .This cities are the more polluting for the river.

Some studies have been made by CORPOBOYACA.

According to the Corporacion Autonoma De Boyacá (CORPOBOYACA):

Tunja Contributes with the 40 % of the wastes, duitama30% and Sogamoso 20%.

In the case of Duitama because this no longer have a decent pipeline to treat contaminated

water has caused some people present constantly dermatitis and headaches from drinking

untreated water. Sogamoso many people have acute tonsillitis also because the water is not

treated is consumed by many of these people . According to the decree 1594 of 1984

Chicamocha river waters they are intended for human , domestic, agricultural, livestock and

industrial consumption. But because of high contamination this should not be allowed for

human consumption.

And although Duitama, Sogamoso, Tunja, Paipa Thermo and Paz del Rio are the main

responsible for this damage, so is the government and Corpoboyacá. In the last six years the

government has shown much interest in the rivers pollution, especially by the Bogota River

and the Chicamocha river, for the Chicamocha River is the second most polluted rivers

across the country. During these years the government with Corpoboyacá have tried to

implement new ways to save the inhabitants who consume river water, for example, the

government together with the Ministry of Environment has tried to build a plant to treat

water so that it can be fit for human consumption but would only benefit the people and

where are our environmental spirit is? If we think of a river, a river without odor is also
necessary to recover our river. The government shows great interest but at the moment of

truth, all these promises are just words and no action. In the case of government and have

set Corpoboyacá treaties to impose fines on companies in the industrial corridor, as many

do not follow environmental rules must be taken into account. In the case of Paz del river

have been imposed five fines for yielding the river is twelve times the allowable amount

and twenty times more toxic than allowed. The government has not put the pants to punish

these companies at once, companies every day cause more damage to the river. Company

Paz del Rio says it will invest seventy billion dollars to repair the damage, but apparently

this has only been in words. Regarding the fines imposed on these companies have

breached the terms of payment several times and the government has not been able to put

off this problem.

The neglect and abandonment of the river is not just this century but it has been the result

of lack of environmental measures, lack of government interest, and lack of investment and

monitoring companies that for years have polluted the river. Decontamination of this river

is a slow, progressive process and money consuming and very long term. The government

has been concerned with exploiting the tourist and sports party providing the river with the

construction of a large ecological park, instead of having invested all this money and all the

effort in the decontamination and restoration of the river and establishes priorities. In the

XXI century it is time to know what our priorities, environmental are, to help save our

planet. Moreover there is a lack of commitment from the government, prefer to cover the

truth, they know that many of the activities of this ecological park revolve around the river,

the river polluted and apparently are not aware that many of these tourists They may not

know that contains the river, and something could happen, something that suddenly not
imagine. The government should invest more time and money to clean up this river, in the

case of companies would invest a solution to form an office of ecology where pollution

levels could be controlled and had authority if any of the established laws are violated. It

should also implement a decent treatment plants in order to treat water in small areas such

as Vado Castro and thus improve the quality of life of the inhabitants.
