IX. Lecturette

Even if spending time alone have some benefits, it is more essential for

human to spend more time with other people so that we would be able have a

good relationship. Also, we need to communicate well with the people around

us so that we won't experience the pain of exclusion and it's effects. Much of

what is known in Evolutional psychology pays tribute to natural selection. That

is, individuals who decided to be in a group were likely to survive the

challenges posed by various threats than those who stayed independently.

Individualism and Collectivism are complex and Multifaceted concepts with no

single qualities that distinguished from one another and, differ in their social

relationships and obligation. Social Self is the aspects of self that are

important to social relations. A persons characteristic behaviour in social

situations. The public person we show in social situations. Social Identity

includes: Personal Identity, Social Identity, Independent or Idiocentrics,

Interdependent or Allocations. While in Variations in Collectivism Optimal

Distinctiveness Theory has cultural differences, regional ethnic differences,

generational differences.

Social identity is a person’s sense of who they are based on their

group membership. In which people belonged to were an important source of

pride and self-esteem. Groups give us a sense of social identity: a sense of

belonging to the social world. In order to increase our self-image we enhance

the status of the group to which we belong. The center of social identity theory

is that group members of an in-group will seek to find negative aspects of an

out-group, thus enhancing their self-image. And sometimes views in between

cultures may result racism as well, "stereotyping". Henri Tajfel proposed that

stereotyping "putting people into groups and categories" is based on a normal

cognitive process: the tendency to group things together. In doing so we tend

to exaggerate:

1. the differences between groups

2. the similarities of things in the same group.

So in conclusion to that, Social Indenty Theory the group membership

is not something we are not familiar with because it is already in our self and

as a person or indviduals it is true and it plays a main part of our personality.

"Let's just be careful "in-groups" (which you belong) that to avoid

discrminitating the "out-group" of what they can't do and were able to do

because every human being has uniqueness on their own way"
