How do you feel about the lesson?

Today was spelling, literacy and maths. In spelling we worked on the use of their,
they’re and there in sentences. In literacy we used all the reading strategies we’ve
learnt to read a book and identify the clues. In maths we did a big quiz/game show.

What worked well? What didn’t?

Worked well:
- Big maths quiz: all of the kids getting to practice their maths in a ‘fun’ way
- Spelling: Using their own real-life examples to put it into sentences
- Literacy: Reading the book to put all the strategies together

Didn’t work:
- Big maths quiz: some of the weaker kids zoned out because they weren’t
winning
- Spelling: The lesson wasn’t long enough to complete the activity

What would you do differently next time?

In the maths quiz I would make it more organised, so we have smooth transitions with
a better scoring strategy and better planned groups etc.

In spelling I would get them to practice the grammar concept by writing me a letter
distinguishing which THERE they are using.
Did you make any in-action judgements to change the lesson?
I went a bit longer in spelling so cut my time in literacy but this was important as we
were not learning new content in literacy today.

Other comments?
It was a great day and I have learnt that I can think on the spot even when I must make
changes to my plan on the spot.
