Training need analysis: During my interaction with the farmers, we came to know

that they have many needs but every need cannot be fulfilled by training. Also, some of these
needs are not realistic, so we prioritize the needs using the job analysis. After interaction with the
farmers using checklist and structured interview, we came to know that they want training in the
crop production of onion. As onion crop production is broad area. In order to make it more
specific, we went for Job analysis of crop production. The components of job analysis were land
preparation, method of planting, Fertilizers use, control of pest and diseases, selecting and
buying raw materials, marketing, irrigation, harvesting. The table of job analysis is given below

Weightage to this activity is given as per following

 FREQUENCY PERFROMED

(RATING 1- 3)

1 – seldom
2 –occasionally

3 – frequently

 IMPORTANCE

(RATING 1 – 3)

1 –marginally important

2 – moderately important

3 – extremely important

 LEARNING DIFFICULTIES
(RATING 1- 3)

1 – easy

2 – moderate

3- very difficult

After the training need analysis using job worksheet, we came to conclusion that farmers need
training in control of pest and disease. We decided to provide training on control of pest and
disease.

Existing situation:
• Lack of knowledge regarding various diseases of onion crop.

• Lack of technical knowledge regarding mode of application of pesticides.

• No safety measures taken during application

Desire condition:

 Provide them sufficient knowledge regarding various diseases causing agents & their
identification
 Gain some technical knowledge in mode of application
 Provide them precautionary knowledge for safety

Evaluation:
After training, it important for anyone to know how well was content and way of
presentation. Evaluation is the assessment of how effective was the training in
terms of objective we had proposed for our training. So, evaluation is vital
component of training without which training is almost incomplete.

Our training programs consist of two parts namely, knowledge and skill.

For evaluation of knowledge and how our training was received we adopted this
method which are listed below

 Oral feedback
 Questionnaires (in Marathi)
 Observation

Using the oral feedback, we will come to know how far they had received the
knowledge. Oral feedback was adopted as some farmers were illiterate. we had
questions as given below

1. What are the different type of application of pesticides?

2. Do you know which pesticides should be used in various stages?
3. Do you know the time of application of pesticides for various diseases?
4. What are the most common diseases causing agents and their symptoms?
5. What are the basis of pest management?
6. What are the minimum safety measures during application?

Using the questionnaire given below, we can say how well the training program
was and what improvements can be done in future. Below was objective and
answer was either yes or no

Questionnaire 1:

 Was the training content what you expected?

 Was the size of the group appropriate?
 Did the methods of instruction keep you interested in the topic?
 Could you see and hear the presentations clearly?
 Did you learn anything new?
 Do you have any suggestions to improve this course?
 Do you think the material was relevant to your work?
 How likely would they be to recommend the course to colleagues?
 Are you ready to apply this training at field in future?

Questionnaire 2:

Apart from above things, we were the observing their body language when we
were presenting the lecture to know how they received the training program. This
is also called reaction method. When people don’t like the content, it is reflected
in the body language.

For skill evaluation, the method of evaluation is

 Observation

There is a hands-on experience session in the training schedule where farmers

will perform various modes of application taught to them in demonstration.
Trainers observe how the farmers are applying the techniques taught to them.
From this, we will come to know to whether they learnt the mode of application
as taught in the demonstration session of the training program.

Conclusion:
This training will provide the sufficient knowledge for the effective control of
pests and diseases. It will also give them the skill in application of various
pesticides and mode of action. The training will also brief them about the various
safety precautions they need to take during the preparation and application. Also,
the marginalized farmers will able to save a lot by taking the various preventive
measures against pest and diseases. Problem of ignorance about the disease is
more dangerous than the disease itself. So, by making them aware about the
diseases and pest, they will less prone to crop damages.
