DETAILED LESSON PLAN FOR GRADE 9

I. Learning Objectives
At the end of the lesson, 75% of the students should be able to:
1. Identify the 3 trigonometric ratios;
2. Illustrate the 3 trigonometric ratios; and
3. Develop attentiveness in class discussion.
II. Subject Matter
Topic :6 Trigonometric Ratios
Subtopic :Sine, Cosine, and Tangent

Value Focus : Attentiveness
Strategy : Inductive Method
III. Methodology
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A.Preparatory Activities
a. Prayer
Before we start our lesson, let’s first have a
prayer.
Our Father, who art in heaven
Hallowed be thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
sins,
As we forgive those who sins against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from evil. Amen.
b. Greetings
Good morning class!
Good morning sir!
You may now take your seats.
c. Checking of attendance
d. Checking of Assignment
e. Review
Who can recall the 3 kinds of triangles according
to their angle?
Acute triangle
Right triangle
Obtuse triangle
What is an acute triangle?
All the angles of triangle are acute.
How about right triangle?
One of the angles of the triangle is right angle.
And the obtuse triangle?
One of the angles of the triangle is obtuse angle.
B. Motivation
Before we start our lesson let’s first sing a song.
It’s entitled “It’s Math Time”.
It’s Math Time
There is just one class I enjoy so much
Were my mind think hard and compute so much
Though the drills are so fast and the problems are
though
We enjoy our class in Math

Oh it’s Math time after all(3x)

Come together and come all
Very good. You have a golden voice class.

C. Presentation of the lesson

Today we will have a new lesson which is all
about the six trigonometric ratios. The 6
trigonometric ratios is one of the fundamentals in
trigonometry that deals with the relationship
between the sides and angles of triangles.
At the end of the lesson you are
expected to:
Learning Objectives

D. Lesson Proper
A while ago, I have recall you about the kinds of
triangles based on their angles but today we will
only be focusing about right triangles. Who can
draw a right triangle on the board?

Very Good. What are the parts of right triangle?

hypotenuse & leg
What is the hypotenuse?
Side opposite the right angle
How about the leg?
The sides not including the hypotenuse.
In the world of trigonometry, the two legs can
either be opposite or adjacent depending on the
position of our angle which is represented by
θ(theta). Let us consider ∆ABC.

θ
A C
Since our theta is on C. Our opposite will be
´
AB and our adjacent is AC ´ while BC ´
will be our hypotenuse.
Suppose that our theta is on B. What will be
our opposite?
´
AC
How about our adjacent?
´
AB
We will now proceed to our first 3 trigonometric
ratios.

sin θ=
hypotenuse
adjacent
cos θ=
hypotenuse

tan θ=
adjacent
Consider ∆LMN

n m

M N
l
What will be sin N?
n
m
How about cos N?
l
m
And our tan N?
n
l
On your notebook solve for sin L, cos L, and tan L.
l
sin L=
m

cos L=
m
l
tan L=
n
Is there any question about the first 3
trigonometric ratios?
No sir.
To easily memorize the first 3 trigonometric ratios
we use the mnemonic Soh-Cah-Toa where :
opposite
Soh is for sin θ= ,
hypotenuse
adjacent
Cah is for cos θ= ,
hypotenuse
opposite
And Toa is for tan θ=
adjacent
E. Application
Instruction: Solve for the first 3 trigonometric
ratios of ∆XYZ with respect to X.

Y 4
Z 3
cos X =

F.Generalization
What are the first 3 trigonometric ratios?
Sine, Cosine, and Tangent.
What are the ratio for the first 3 trigonometric
ratios?

cos θ= ,

opposite
tan θ=

IV. Evaluation
Instruction: Given ∆PQR solve for the first 3 trigonometric ratios with respect to R. Solve the
following in a ½ crosswise.

Q 6 R

6 √3
12

V. Assignment
Instruction: Considering ∆PQR solve for the first 3 trigonometric ratios with respect to P. Solve the
following in a ½ crosswise.
