RBS 2116

GSM Macro Base Station, High Density – 12 TRX, Outdoor

Building on the highly successful RBS

2000 product family, the RBS 2116 GSM
base station for outdoor use is designed
for performance, simplicity and cost-
effective rollout. Virtually every parameter
has been improved for higher performance
while reducing total cost of ownership
(TCO) to a level that will let you tap new
markets and subscriber groups.

The RBS 2116 is a highly integrated, small

and compact base station that can be
installed very rapidly. Because civil works
and provision of shelters to accommodate
the site may represent a substantial por-
tion of CAPEX in a network, the RBS 2116
is designed to withstand harshenviron-
ments and weather conditions and it needs
no shelter.

The low total weight makes it possible to

use rooftops that previously needed costly
reinforcement. A simple weight distribution
on the rooftop is often enough.

The number of sites needed to cover a

given area is the major cost driver and af-
fects all other operation and
maintenance costs. With the RBS 2116,
radio performance has been taken to a
new level. The operator can reduce the
number of sites with more than 20%,
which significantly improves overall
economy. The base station is available in a
variety of configurations with two to twelve
transceivers in each unit. There are con-
figurations that can maximize coverage,
capacity or both.
A high degree of integration also means fewer cables
and connections. In the shell there are Overvoltage 1
Protection Units (OVP) in order to provide EMC protec-
3
tion for outdoor applications.

Air conditioning is very power consuming. With the
7
extended temperature range of the RBS 2116 up to 50°
Celsius, you can realize up to a 40% power saving. 1400 mm

Heat-exchanger cooling can be used for dusty environ-

ments. 8

The RBS 2116 outdoor base station provides a

cost-efficient solution for outdoor rooftop, outdoor 4

without shelter deployments and is ideal for rapid 9

growth scenarios and Greenfield deployment. 5
