Is Technology Limiting Creativity?

In our world so far, creativity has always been playing an unchangeable role in the

development and innovation process. It’s strongly agreed that technology is one of the most

important achievements that human-being has ever created. According to Wikipedia, as of June

2018, 55,1% of the world population (nearly 4 billion people) have access to the internet. In

addition, technology has brought to our life uncountable beneficial in a variety of essential

aspects such as education, communication, business,… However, in a writing called “Is

Technology Killing Creativity?”, the author – Katie stated that “The predominance of technology

and smartphones, in particular, has to lead to many suggestions that creativity is being killed by

our reliance on these tools.” In the 1990s, there were some people who believed that electronic

devices such as TV are killing one’s imagination. Although most of the people will argue that the

statement below is nonsense because TV actually gives a lot of support for one’s creativity by

giving a picture about the outside world, we still have to accept the fact that photographic image

is nowhere as realistic as the natural world. Moreover, on the report of Hannah Nichols, a

popular form of technology in today life such as video games consume about 3 billion hours per

week which really waste the consumers time and turn them into passive thinkers. From my

viewpoint, the main reason for the problems below is not all on technology by actually the ways

people using it. Every human – being is free on their decision, there has not been any technology

that has the ability to force people to use them. This paper will prove that the ways people using

technology are actually the problem why our creativity is being limited in certain different ways

by giving evidence, hypothesis and personal opinion. If people are not informed about this

problem on time, unknown consequences such as global unemployment or lack of innovation

will happen really soon.

There is no doubt that technology is a great success. Technology brought us so many

helpful, made our life greater and easier at the same time. However, the main purpose of

technology is not an excuse for us to stay away from our friends and family or outside activities.

The technology was actually made to improve our life quality. Unfortunately, it is clear to realize

that people today are abusing so much the technology in various ways. Most of us choose to

depend on it too much and it is absolutely wrong. For example, due to one research by the Pew

Internet and American Life project found out that 81% of American Adults use the internet with

74% of the user using it to pass time or “for fun purpose.” The Ipsos found that American use of

the internet has increased 20% from 2010, with Millenials spending more than 40 hours a week

online. Moreover, when being asked about the question: "Can you live without technology?".

How many people can actually say yes when they imagine a life without such things like mobile

phone, Facebook or YouTube? In addition, it is clear to see that with the advent of the internet,

most of us are choosing to misuse it and being passive instead of being active and use it wisely.
