Heads of all Departments of Politeknik Negeri Semarang

Distinguished Keynote Speakers, All Participants, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Assalamualaikum. Wr. Wb.

And Good Morning

As we all know, the International Technical Conference started back in 2008.

The event was held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A decade after, the event still
goes on and reaches its 6th appearance, here in Indonesia.

It is truly an honor for me to welcome all of you to Indonesia. I would like to

express my special gratitude to Mr. Joongseok Joseph, Mrs. Nurmin Bolong,
Mr. Abdul Aziz, and Mr. Shahrir Bin Abdullah who have accepted the
invitation to become the keynote speakers in this International Technical
Conference. Let us all hope that this conference, which has a theme
“Advances in Applied Research For Future Innovation and Emerging
Technology”,will succeed toward its aim at the current state of technology
and the outcome of ongoing research in the area of Electrical and Computer
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering,
Architechture Engineering, and Chemical Engineering. Aside from that, a

x
6th International Technical Conference

conference workshop on “Stress wave non-destructive testing application in

civil engineering infrastructure” will also be held.

This event should not only serve as the publication of our researches, but also
serves as a medium to build a strong bond between nations and to collaborate
in solving both regional problems and global problems. After seeing those
potencies, I think it is only right if we nurture this event to improve both
research quality and real-life contributions in industry, business, and many
other sections. By achieving these two, I believe we can build an even greater
civilization.

Last but not least, on behalf of Semarang State Polytechnic & as the head of
Research and Community Dedication Center (P3M), I would like to thank the
committee of this event and everyone who have taken part on this event. May
God gives us His Blessing for today, and for years to come. Thank you for
your attention.

WassalamualaikumWr. Wb.

Dr. Ir. Tedjo Mulyono, M.T.

Vision and Strategy for Smart City in Asian Countries

Prof Joongseok Joseph Ryu, Ph.D

Provost, Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea

Abstract

With the advent of 4th industrial revolution, cities are transforming from the
conventional hardware and infrastructure-oriented to software and information-
oriented one. However, for most Asian cities, there is a big gap between ideal dream
for smart city and reality of current status. Most of industrialized cities in the U.S.A.
and Europe have already completed modernization of infrastructure facilities and are
on the way to transform them into smart cities. Situation of Asian cities make it more
difficult to pursue both modernization of infrastructure and make it smart.

Smart city technology is based on the fusion of diverse engineering fields

(electronic, civil, transportation, sewage treatment, energy, etc.) and urban planning.
Most of smart city projects in Asian countries, including Korea, focused on the
development of new ICT technology and it’s application to urban space.
Nevertheless, technology-only-led smart city strategy can be dangerous and even
harmful without considering human nature imbedded in the technology. Therefore,
strategies for smart city in Asian countries must be different from western version.

In this presentation, some experiences of Korean smart city projects will be

shared and lessons with implications for other Asian cities will be drawn. Some recent
research attempts to foster AI Humanities and interesting topics to be considered by
the engineers will be given.

In conclusion, the followings aspects need to be considered to establish

strategies for smart city in Asian cities;

1) Mixture of top-down (government-driven) and bottom-up (market-

driven) approach to maximize the potential of the country.

xxxv
6th International Technical Conference

2) Concentration of resources to one successful model case and proliferation

of best case to other cities.

3) Provision of forum for scholars in humanities and engineering to discuss

and prevent possible aftermath and side effect of smart city.

Measuring the Outcome of Environment and Sustainability Toward
Program Outcome: Correlation Between Random and Specific
Evaluation

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nurmin Bolong

Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), Selangor, Malaysia

Abstract

Outcome-Based Education (OBE) is an educational approach that focuses on the

outcomes and objectives that the students are expected to achieve at the end of their
learning process. OBE is a process that involves the restructuring of curriculum,
assessment and reporting practices in education to reflect the achievement of high
order learning and mastery rather than accumulation of course credits. Recent
emphasis on monitoring student outcomes to ensure continuous quality improvement
(CQI) of an academic curriculum has been influential in higher education. Hence, in
this paper, the correlation and effect of education strengthening strategies on
student’s effectiveness in knowledge understanding and technology skills of
environment and sustainable were evaluated in this paper. Direct measurement of
learner’s outcome and course grade performance of Civil engineering students from
three consecutive cohorts of Universiti Malaysia Sabah were analyzed and quantified.
After several years of implementation and improvement in the measurement method,
we observed positive influence between learner’s appreciation and environmental
application.

Aligning Research Agenda to Support the United Nations’
Sustainable Development Goals for a Prosperous Future

Prof Shahrir Abdullah, PhD, PEng

Dean Faculty of Engineering and Built Environment Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia

Abstract
In September 2015, the United Nations (UN) Summit endorsed the 2030 Agenda for
Sustainable Development with 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aimed at
transforming the world to be a better and prosperous place to live. These goals and
officially came into force on 1 January 2016. Over the next fifteen years, with these
new goals that universally apply to all, countries are expected to mobilize efforts to
end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring
that no one is left behind. In responding to the challenges set by the SGDs and the
action plans developed by the UN, universities and institutions of higher education
should take a leading role in exploring and developing solutions to some or many of
these problems. As the world is also entering a new era of technological advancement
referred to the fourth industrial revolution, the solutions have to take advantage of the
emerging destructive technologies which have also inevitably contributed to global
transformation. Hence, this paper proposes a way forward in aligning research agenda
and explores actions that needs to be taken by the academic community in order to
support the delivery of these goals.

Abstract— This paper presents a brief review of contraflow operation under

emergency evacuation process with the presence of heterogeneous traffic conditions.
Prior studies showed that most evacuation contraflow designs have never been
implemented. As a result, the effectiveness of these contraflow designs remains
unknown. Emergency Evacuation Time (EET) represents an essential factor for the
contraflow operation process due to saving time in delay for expected evacuation.
Contraflow lane problems remain challenging for optimizing the best evacuation
design system. Contraflow freeway evacuation plan has been shown to be a successful
method to rapidly and efficiently move large numbers of vehicles during emergency
situations. Unfortunately, contraflow evacuation process is not a cure for all
evacuation process and even a not a best remedy for rush-hour congestion cases.

Abstract—This researchwas purposed to study the composite behavior and the increased
capacity of reinforced concrete beam strength underflexural loading caused by external strand
strength without stressing. The specimen is divided into 2 types. Type-I specimen has (150 x
300 x 3200) mm dimension with center point loading, and distance of strand clamp as (U-bars)
variable; whereas, the Type-II specimen has (200 x 300 x 3200) mm dimension withthird point
loading, andthe number of strand as variable. The test is carried out by static-monotonic
loading, and displacement control.Experimental test results shows that the addition of strand
on the lower surface of the beam increase the beam's load capacity. However, the use of U-
bars affects the stability of the concrete. The tighter distance of the U-bars decrease the capacity
of the strengthening occured. The increased load capacity of Type I specimens, S3-150, S5-150
and S9-150 are 33.2%, 17%, and 12.1% against control beam (BK-150),respectively. Whereas,
the increased capacityof the type-II beam strength of test specimens B1-200 and B2-200 are
10% and 17% against control beam (BN-200), respectively. And the increase of initial stiffness
of beam Type-I test specimen S3-150, S5-150, and S9-150 are 14%, 18% and 5% againstcontrol
beam (BK-150), respectively. Meanwhile, the increase of initial stiffness of Type-II beam of test
specimens B1-200 and B2-200 are 21% and 24% against control beam (BN-200), respectively.
This study shows that concrete and strand bonding is not compatible. The concrete has been
reaching the limit strain, as well as the steel reinforcement in the concrete hasbeen in yielded;
meanwhile, strand that has fyis much higher than fyof reinforced steel,is still in elastic condition.

Abstract— In the context of transportation, the passenger loyalty is a measurement of the level
of passenger’s willingness to use a similar public transport. The goal of this study is to examines
and identifies factors that influencing passenger loyalty. Three factors such as satisfaction,
service value, services quality was predicted as an influential factor towards passengers’ loyalty.
The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) for Sungai Buloh to Kajang (SBK) line in Kuala Lumpur
conurbation was used as a case study and 555 respondents have contributed to this study.
Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to investigate the relationship between service
quality, service value, passenger satisfaction and passenger loyalty. Satisfaction has the most
significant influence on passenger loyalty. Service value has direct and positive effects on
passenger loyalty. This study also found the service quality has significant indirect effect on the
passenger loyalty via service value and passenger satisfaction. The study reveals that MRTSBK
passengers’ loyalty is significantly influenced by service attributes, such as vehicle safety,
convenience, punctuality, comfort, cleanliness of the facility provided. This study helps MRT
service provider to optimize resource to enhance user’s satisfaction and therefore, increase the
passenger loyalty.

Abstract—Nitrifying bacteria are sensitive to temperature, which makes temperature

an important parameter that influences ammonia-nitrogen removal rates in wastewater
treatment systems, particularly in attached growth system. The parameter of pH also
plays a major role in the nitrification process. The aim of the study was to evaluate the
performance of three (3) different bio-filters for the growth of nitrifying bacteria
under the influence of temperature and pH. The batch experiment was conducted
using the attached growth system (bio-filter) and without bio-filter. Two different
concentration of ammonia-nitrogen (30 mg/L and 70 mg/L) were used in the study.
The consumption of nitrite-nitrogen and nitrate-nitrogen of nitrifying bacteria was
observed and determined. From the result obtained, the production rate of nitrate-
nitrogen in batch cultures with and without bio-filter for ammonia-nitrogen
concentrations of 30 mg/L and 70 mg/L show the highest production rate of nitrate-
nitrogen for both concentrations at an optimum temperature of 35 oC. Regarding to
the effect of pH on the production rate of nitrate-nitrogen in batch culture with and
without bio-filter, a pH value of 8 was found to be optimum. Here, the use of bio-
filter as a support material can be the best solution to obtain a high concentration of
biomass. It can be found that, as the biofilm was attached to the surface of the carrier,
an effective biological process of ammonia-nitrogen degradation could be established.

Abstract—Approximately 50% the total solid waste generatedfrom the Universiti

Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Bangi campus is food waste, with the main source of
food waste generation are from cafeterias in the campus. Low awareness level among
students on the importance of food waste separation and lack of monitoring on solid
waste management may be the reason why students do not separate food waste at
cafeterias. The first objective of this study is to obtain the quantities of food waste
generated by thestudents’ residentialcafeteria, while the secondobjective is to evaluate
the effectiveness of food waste separation at students’ residential cafeterias. There are
two methods used to achieve the objectives of collecting food waste and kitchen
waste at a residential college cafeteria and through questionnaire analysis. This waste
collection was conducted at all residential college cafeterias except
KolejAminuddinBaki and KolejIbu Zain for some reason. The waste is divided into
two phases, Phase 1 and Phase 2. Phase 1 from 5th March 2018 until 23rd March
2018 while Phase 2 starts from 26th March 2018 until 23rd April 2018. The results
show the amount of food waste produced by the eight cafeterias is 128.8 kg/day and
the total amount of food waste produced by a student is 0.013 kg/day while the
average estimated weight of inorganic waste generation for all colleges is 11.06kg/day.
Based on the analysis of the questionnaire, 55.25 percent stated that their barriers to
this food waste separation program are the laziness that they have in themselves.
Based on this information, a more rigorous management system needs to be
introduced by the university authorities so that students can isolate food waste
effectively.

Abstract—Short-lived climate forcers (SLCF) controls are important because of their

shorter impact and more immediate benefits in the short term than carbon dioxide
controls that have a 100-year time horizon. In this study, we estimated the emission of
SLCF from domestic and transport sector in Semarang city using emission factor
from IPCC and CORINAIR. We also predicted the emission dispersion using
AEMOD View. The total consumption of LPG domestic sector in Semarang City is
48,532 tons in 2017 and produces total SCLF emissions 0.537 tons/year and 11,538
tons/year for BC and CH4 respectively. This corresponds to CO 2 emissions of
145,611 tons/year and 230.76 tons/year of N2O emissions. While from transport
sector, the motorcycle has the largest VKT i.e 18.282.061.600 km/year in 2017. The
emission, based on VKT data combined with active vehicles data, reach 178.23
tons/year, 802.52 tons/year for BC and CH 4 respectively. Transport sector produces
total CO2 emissions almost 15 times to that of domestic sector. Based on emission
model, the emission distribution was concentrated in the districts located in the city
center. The pollutant was accumulated in the Northwest, city center and Southeast of
the city.

Abstract— In the current study, the finite element software, PLAXIS-2D V8.2, was
utilised for the simulation of a stone columns that offered support on an embankment
with the use of the plane strain models. Estimation of the settlement improvement
factor was performed for the reinforced soil. Then, the findings of the numerical
analysis were then compared to some of the current theoretical methods. Finally,
using the present numerical work data as basis, a general equation was formulated
through the Surface Response Methodology and utilising the Matlab 2018a (Matrix
Laboratory) program. The resulting equation is used for the determination of the
settlement improvement factor for the end-bearing stone column group. It has been
indicated by the equation that the parameters that exercised the most control during
the prediction of the behaviour of the stone columns settlement are the friction angle
of column material and area replacement ratio. It was observed that there was a
significant increase in the settlement improvement factor when these two parameters
were increased.

Abstract—Design and construction of road embankment presents several challenges,

including the possibility of bearing capacity failure, large total settlement, differential
settlement, and slope instability, which may result from the weight of the
embankment construction itself, and/or weak foundation. A number of techniques
have been developed and can be used to overcome these problems, one of them is by
modifying the weight of the embankment itself with the use of lightweight materials,
such as EPS beads. The use of EPS beads as lightweight material provides several
advantages, among which can achieve the same volume or elevation requirement with
a significantly lighter weight compared to ordinary materials, improving slope stability,
embankment over high compressibility soil, and to reduce soil pressure to soil
retaining structures, abutment or bridge pillar. The result of the compaction test
shows that the addition of a small amount of EPS to the mixture can significantly
reduce the maximum dry density of the mixture. Triaxial UU and UCS test results
show a reduction in mixture strength as EPS contents increase, but due to the
presence of fly ash as binder increases the strength of mixture as the number of day
increases, so that the use of lightweight materials has the potential to be one of soil
improvement solutions.

Abstract— The collapse of Krasak bridge in 1990 due to fire proved that steel bridge
is susceptible to high temperature. It needs a protection on steel beam to defend the
resistance of the structure caused by high temperature, one of the protection is fire
resistant coating such as graphite resistant paint. This research divided by the steel
without paint and the steel with paint post-fire, both research are analyzed
experimental and numerical. Eight specimens were burned at temperature of 20, 550
and 1000 °C. Loads were applied during combustion by 0, 19, and 38 kN. Afterward,
post-fire specimens were tested for flexural and tension test. The result of
experimental test proved that the combustion process is influenced by several factors
such as temperature, initial load and duration. The addition of paint can defend the
yield strength by 3.8%. The result of numerical analysis showed that the addition of 1
mm thickness of paint increase 1oC temperature to reach collapse compared to
specimen without paint. Hence, the addition of this type of paint slightly improves the
performance of steel beam.

Abstract— Shoreline changes have gained a lot of attention among researchers and
other interested parties. It is considered to be one of the most dynamic processes that
are affected by the ever changing environment. The changes of shoreline can be
analyzed through erosion and accretion from time to time by the various methods
such as remote sensing, aerial photography, airborne light detection and ranging
technology (LiDAR), video imaging, GPS shorelines and fieldwork. In this study, the
method relies on image processing of satellite and using ArcGIS software and free
extension for ArcGIS software, Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS), which
enables a transect-based calculation for the rate of shoreline changes along the coast
of Selangor starting from Bagan Nakhoda Omar until Bagan Pasir. The area was
chosen because of the significant erosion problem due to the continuous
development growth. The main objective of the study is to determine the rate of
shoreline changes using DSAS to provide statistical value for the year 1993 and 2014.
First, the extraction of the shoreline using satellite image from SPOT 5 and
topographic maps are done using ArcGIS 10.1. Second, the shoreline data from both
years are overlaid and the changes are calculated using two statistical methods namely

End Point Rate (EPR) and Least Median Squares (LMS). The statistical values
obtained are then used to generate the index of shoreline changes. The shoreline
changes in the study area are classified as critical erosion with the maximum erosion
of 118.53 m/year (EPR) and 75.82 m/year (LMS). Meanwhile, the maximum
accretions are 70.32 m/year (EPR) and 64.37 m/year (LMS).

Abstract—High performance concrete (HPC) utilizes supplementary materials such as

silica fume and fly ash to contribute to strength and workability, while at the same
time, solving a part of industrial by-products waste dumping problem. The objective
of this research is to investigate the effects of incorporating 10%, 20%, and 30% coal
bottom ash (CBA), one of industrial by-products waste, to replace cement in HPC in
terms of workability, compressive strength, and pore size distribution. The results
shows that the fresh concrete exhibit true slump for all mixes with a small differences
in a range between 3-6 % compared to control mix. The CBA concrete samples show
less compressive strength than the control at 28th-day. The mercury intrusion
porosimeter (MIP) test shows that CBA concrete contain a wide range of pore size
distribution from 2 µm to 100 µm meso- to macropore sizes. The pore size decreased
significantly at higher strength concrete (control and low CBA percentage). The CBA
can be used as a partial cement replacement material in concrete mixture, however, to
achieve an equivalent result with control concrete, a finer size of CBA is required so it
will act as filler to obtain the designed strength. In general, incorporation of CBA as
partial replacement of cement decreased the workability, strength, and increase the
porosity properties of concrete.

Abstract— The porous asphalt mixture is an asphalt mixture that consist of high void
and a small proportion of fine aggregate. The presence of a high void reduce the value
of marshall stability. Many attempts to increase the value of marshall stability by adding
substances into the porous asphalt mixture has been done by several researchers.
Modified porous asphalt can be achieved by adding gilsonite to the mixture which aims
to accomplish the main function of the porous asphalt layer as well as to improve the
quality of mixed performance. The method used in this study is an experimental
method. The test that conducted in this study using two types of gradations that are
Japan and Australia gradation. The research was Marshall characteristic test with 2.5%,
3.5%, 4.5%, 5.5%, 6.5% of gilsonite content and 0% as the control. The results showed
that porous asphalt mixture using gilsonite proved to increase the value of Marshall
stability compared to non-modified porous asphalt mixture by 24%. The mixture
reaches a maximum state at 5.5% gilsonite content. The best performance is produced
by the mixture using Japanese gradation.

Abstract—Asphalt Concrete – Wearing Course (AC-WC) is a surface layer of flexible

pavement which have direct contact with vehicle wheel. One of the surface layer
damage categories is the wheel track (rutting). In this research, the experiment was
done by using industrial waste of granite stone production in the form of dust as filler
in the AC-WC mixture. The variation of filler content used are 3%, 4.5%, 6%, 7.5%
and 9% with cement filler as comparator. The test was conducted by using wheel
tracking machine on temperature of 60˚C, 45˚C and 30˚C. The test result shows that
the optimum filler content using granite dust in the AC-WC mixture is 3%.
Meanwhile the optimum filler content on the asphalt concrete using cement filler is
7.5%. Thus, it shows that the higher temperature cause the ability of maintaining the
wheel track decreased. Furthermore if looking at the relation between dynamical
stability, deformation depth and deformation velocity on filler concentration is not
linear.

Abstract—Slim floor construction proposing minimum floor depth, where, the

composite interaction between steel and concrete is provided by shear connectors
such as; cellular in steel beam web, headed shear stud and tie-bar. The main failure
modes were found to be welding fractures at shank of the stud and concrete splitting
failure due to the knife load produced by the thin steel beam web opening. Moreover,
the tie-bar ruptured when punched by the steel beam web opening. Therefore, hollow
steel tube (HST) shear connector is proposed to weld to steel beam web opening
(WO) and filled with concrete. In this research, experimental work and finite element
modelling using ABAQUS software was carried out to evaluate the shear strength,
ductility and energy absorption (EA) capacity of HST and WO. The varied parameters
were the concrete compressive strength and shape of the HST and WO; the circular,
rectangular and square. The results showed that the circular and square HST
connectors achieved shear capacities 6.3 and 8.0 times higher than those with the WO
type, respectively. Furthermore, the ductility of the specimens increased by 3-4 times
when the HST was used compared to WO. It shows that providing the HST
significantly improved its capability of absorbing more energy than the WO type,
where, the square HST connectors achieved the highest EA values.

Abstract— Load Transfer Efficiency (LTE) is the measure of the integrity of the joint
to share the load to adjacent slabs. It is being evaluated in the field by imposing
impact load through Heavy/Falling Weight Deflectometer (H/FWD) and measuring
the pavements response. These test are being analyzed statically assuming that if the
same magnitude of peak load is applied on the pavement, it will result to the peak
response gathered by deflection sensors. It has been proven by numerous research
that the use of static analysis for the dynamic testing results to
overestimation/underestimation. This study investigates the behavior of the joint
based on impulse loading conducted in the field and gives a better understanding by
simulating the same load using Finite Element Analysis in Abaqus. Findings from the
field are presented and the difference between the static and dynamic analysis using
Finite Element Analysis (Abaqus 2017) were compared.

Abstract— Tropical countries are the most effected countries by nature forces. In
Malaysia, nature forces are expressed in heavy rain intensity combined with different
wind speeds most of the year. Low-rise building considered to be the most affected
structures during this event. Improper roof system design might lead to a significant
damage or in some other cases a total destruction to the roof system as it experiences
high wind speed (extreme wind). The aim of this study is to determine the maximum
wind pressure distribution on the roof system when subjected to mean wind speed
(20m/s) and extreme wind speed (40m/s) through computer simulation and
laboratory experiments. Models of low-rise buildings with gable and hip roof of 10°
and 25° were simulated and fabricated for testing. It was observed that most of the
simulated and fabricated tested models had similar values of wind pressure coefficient
(Cp) among the models of roof system during mean wind speed testing. The highest
difference of positive and negative Cp values was 25% and 36% for gable roof with
10° roof pitch angle between the simulation and experiment results respectively. Hip
roof models had less difference in the Cp values as the highest negative Cp value was
only 8% and a positive Cp value was 5% for 10° and 25° of roof pitch angle.
Meanwhile the effect of extreme wind on the wind pressure distribution was also been
investigated through computer simulation. From simulation results, it showed that the
wind direction of 0° (facing the long span of the roof system) for both hip and gable
roof experienced the biggest failure. Besides that, the study also found that hip roof
angle of 10° is more practical and had less damage compared to the other models.
Simultaneously from these results, the most critical areas with high pressure
distribution can be identified.

Abstract— Prediction of future performance of existing structures is becoming a new

challenge to structural engineers. The structures have different initial conditions,
environmental and loading history. In this paper, experimental investigation was
performed to build a digital model for the future performance prediction of a
prestressed concrete beam. One of the main concern in deterioration of a prestressed
concrete beam is tendon corrosion. Corrosion speed and its effect on mechanical
properties of the tendon need to be established by field data instead of lab-scale test
data. A procedure to predict the performance of corroded tendons was suggested
based on observation cases in existing prestressed concrete bridges. Mechanical
properties of the corroded strand can be estimated by suggested formula using tensile
tests. Prestressed concrete beams with corroded strands were tested to assess the
effect of corrosion on the flexural behavior of the beam. When the information of the
corrosion speed and section reduction of the strand is established, performance of a
prestressed concrete beam can be predicted.

Abstract—Recently the shear-wave velocity of an earth core in a rockfill dam can be

profiled with depth thanks to a newly developed surface-wave technique of “Shear-
wave velocity correction by stress-based empirical equation (SSEE)”. To make an
earth core rockfill dam (ECRD) more safe and stable against earthquake, an intensive
research was performed for the influence of earth core stiffness on the site response
analysis of an ECRD. A series of finite element analysis were performed for the earth
core with a different stiffness. And later the site response analyses for the ECRD with
a more accurate shear wave velocity profile at an earth core were performed for two
ECRD’s in South Korea. The accurate shear-wave velocity profile is a layered, not
uniform one. The layered core resulted in a larger PGA. Also a longitudinal shaking
led to a larger PGA than a transverse shaking.

Abstract—Uncontrolled erosion would cause considerable damages, such as soil

fertility decline, water structures damage and reservoirs sedimentation. As the data for
the sedimentation rate are limited, several models have been developed to predict the
surface erosion and the rate of sedimentation. However, the availability of sufficient,
diverse and extensive data are needed for the implementation of the models, both for
the model calibration and the verification. The result of the analysis shows that both
of the Tank Models that represent the erosion- sedimentation rate process, in which
Tank Model 1 being the three-tank cascade system and Tank Model 2 being two-tank
cascade system, are not optimum. This can be observed from the values of volume
error (VE), relative error (RE), root-mean-square error (RMSE) and correlation
coefficient (R) that show the effect of 1.5 hours of rain period in the sedimentation
rate. The field condition shows considerable sedimentation, on the other hand, the
models’ simulations show decreasing sedimentation rates. The optimum model’s
parameters for Tank Model 1 and Tank Model 2 are 924.51%-1049.26% for the
relative error, 50.81% - 121.42% for the volume error, 0.9 for the correlation
coefficient and 6703.59-17,297.85 for the root-mean-square error. The parameters and
constant’s values of the models are different relative to watershed condition.

Abstract—Fuel system modification techniques to improve engine efficiency could be

the way to slow down the energy crisis caused by the lack of new fuel inventions. The
Compression Ignition (CI) diesel engine is one of the most preferred engines for both
in-land and marine transportation motors. The advantages of compact dimensions
and large generated power make CI diesel engine superior to other engine types. The
large number of single CI diesel engines use in small fishing vessel engines and
agricultural machinery will contribute substantially to fuel consumption in a
cumulative manner. Previous researchs on the modification of fuel system with bi-fuel
system High Speed Diesel (HSD)oil – Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) system capable
of reducing Brake Specific Fuel Consumption (BSFC) up to 24% and exhaust gas
opacity up to 68%. Subsequent studies focused on engines with single fuel HSD oil
but were injected with superheated steam in 1 atm (abs) 130 oC by utilizing Heat
Recovery Generating System (HRSG) using heat of exhaust gas for a flowrate of 1.5 -
4.5 kg/hour. It is capable of delivering the performance improvement of Specific Fuel
Consumption (SFC), which is reduced by 8.92% compared to diesel engines without
steam injection. Recent research combines the above two modification methods so
that diesel will adopt two types of fuel-oil-LPG with additional superheated steam
injection resulting from exhaust gas heat cogeneration system. Experimental results of
the diesel engine with LPG injection maintained at 0.4 kg/h and 3.5 kg/h superheated
steam with an engine variation loading of 0.3-0.7 kWh provide an average AFR of
30.09 and SFC improvement up to 37.2% lower than SFC engine standard with a
single fuel HSD oil.

Abstract—The role of ships for Indonesia is very important as a trigger for economic
development and inter-island liaison. In line with the Indonesian government
program in realizing the sea toll program and as the ruler of the world maritime axis,
the ship needs will increase rapidly then the shipping industry becomes the main
foundation in supporting this program. However, the development of the shipping
industry in Indonesia is still hampered because ship components are still largely
imported. As many as 70% of ship components must be imported from abroad.
While many domestic SMEs of ship components have not been standardized, so they
have not been able to support the shipping industry. The purpose of this study is to
formulate participatory rural appraisal strategy in realizing the standardization of ship
components. The results of the research indicate that there are five main factors
influencing the success of product standardization: function and performance of
Local Working Group Platform, the involvement of strong certification institutions,
availability of technical expert and supporting institutions, shipyard in Evaluation
Monitoring. The standardization program undertaken by SMEs of ship component is

Abstract—The objectives of this research numerically studies various effects on the

performance of air-breathing microfluidic fuel cells for modeling the transport
phenomena. The microfluidic fuel cells having a microchannel width of 1.0 mm and
50 µm in-depth with an electrode spacing of 0.3 mm. The concentration formic acid
of 0.3 M, 0.5 M, and 1.0 M mixed with 0.5 M sulfuric acid (supporting electrolyte) in
aqueous solution was used as fuel and another inlet a stream of 0.5 M sulfuric acid as
an electrolyte which were varied at an inlet flow rate of 0.05, 0.1, and 0.5 mL/min.
Firstly, a 3-D microfluidic fuel cell model was built using COMSOL Multiphysics 5.1
to simulate the fuel cell performance. Furthermore, both V-I curves obtained from
simulation on different volumetric fuel flow rate. The transport phenomena in the
microfluidic fuel cells were formulated with continuity equation, momentum equation,
species transport equation, and charge equation. The porous media flow in the gas
diffusion layer was described by Brinkman equation. The Butler-Volmer equations
were applied to get the V-I curves.

Abstract— Transmission ratio change in today’s motor cycle rubber belt

Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) are based on centrifugal forces resulted
from engine revolution. Compare to manual transmission, this kind of CVT needs
higher engine revolution to start changing its transmision ratio which in turn requiring
more fuel consumption. A transmission ratio change concept based on an Electro-
mechanical actuator consisting of cam, actuator gears and DC motor has been
developed to eliminate the dependancy of transmission ratio on engine revolution.
The DC motor rotates the cam through actuator gears. The rotation of the cam causes
the primary movable pulley sheave to move in axial direction, which in turn changing
the belt-pulley pitch radius and changing the transmission ratio. This research aims to
design and implement an electronic measurement system based on Arduino Uno as a
data acquisition system and Matlab/Simulink as a controller program to obtain the
measurement data of primary pulley and secondary pulley speeds and primary pulley
axial position. Based on these data, the transmission ratio can be determined and the
relationship between transmission ratio and primary pulley posistion can then be

Abstract— Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) is a form of business which

triggers the economic growth of Indonesia and it can even survive in the economic
crisis that had ever occurred in Indonesia. There are many obstacles faced by SME
such as lack of capital, limited human resources and weak marketing as the spearhead
of the company. So it takes a variety of strategies in the conventional promotion such
as advertising on TV/ Radio, opening branches, following exhibitions, making
banners and brochures. Of course, SME does not have enough financial to make
promotion at an expensive cost, so the internet makes digital marketing becomes
faster, accessible for 24 hours, cheap and free. Online marketing activities using social
media have been done by the SME such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube
and so on, because it has a tremendous impact. SME can use hard selling / soft selling
sentences or post photos or upload videos so that it can be seen millions of people for
free. But for effective promotion in social media, it is necessary to know the style of
execution that has the attraction to get to the target market to be targeted. Indicators
used for advertising selection are 1) Straight-Sell or Factual Message, 2) Scientific or

Abstract – Breast milk is the main nutrition for infants that can give protection from
infection and disease. There are several factors influencing low administration of
exclusive breast milk on the first month. They include low milk supply, nipple
pain/trauma, breast engogerment, and mastitis/breast abscces. The high rate of infant
mortality on the first month of birth is one of the effects that ceases breastfeeding.
Appropriate diagnosis establishment and solution addressed for breastfeeding mother
is one of the main issues faced by health professionals, because of limited distance
coverage and time. Inappropriate diagnosis establishment and solution can cause early
ceasing of exclusive breastfeeding. Thus, this paper proposes a web-based information
system to establish diagnosis and provide solution for breastfeeding issues. The
method used is rule-based system. Users input symptoms of issues, then these data are
processed by information system to generate diagnosis. Solutions given are in
accordance to diagnosis of breastfeeding issues. These solutions are validated by
midwives as experts. The research design is quasi experimental with only non-
equivalent posttest group and control group involving a sample of 36 respondents.
The intervention group (n=18) used information system while the control group
(n=18) used leaflet. Intervention was performed for 14 days, and on the 15 th day a
posttest was conducted in order to score measured self-efficacy and evaluate
effectiveness of the information system using questionnaires. Results show that the
information system is an effective media to help with diagnosis and give solution for
breastfeeding issues. Validation results also show that the rule-based system matches
the required health care.

Abstract — The high prevalence of postpartum depression significantly increases

maternal morbidity. Lack of diagnosis for postpartum depression results in mothers
missing early treatment necessary. The traditional screening method using
questionnaire presents its own disadvantage in diagnosis. Therefore, development of
postpartum screening method that focuses on ease in implementation is very much
needed to improve postpartum maternal health. This paper proposes a screening
information system for postpartum depression to help its proper treatment. This
research employed the rule-based method to diagnose postpartum depression and the
expert system to input symptoms data that will result in diagnoses. Respondents
input symptoms data to be diagnosed by the system. The system then automatically
generate output of suggested treatment based on expert input associated with the
diagnoses the system is working on. This research employed the Randomized Control
Trial method with Control Group Pre and Post Tests Design. Samples of this
research were 52 postpartum mothers consisting of 26 respondents in the system
group, and the other 26 in the manual group. Results show that 42.31% (n=11) of
mothers suffer from postpartum depression. There is a significant difference in EPDS
score prior to and after the use of the information system (P=0.000). The system also
successfully generated very high TAM score, meaning that it is capable of postpartum
screening along with ease of use and some other advantages. Therefore, screening for
postpartum depression using information system is very effective and ensures proper

Abstract - Anemia among pregnant mothers is a serious issue that may cause
pregnancy complications, premature birth that can lead to mortality, and low birth
weight (BBLR). Monitoring for anemia among pregnant mothers is quite a
phenomenon for midwives and health professionals due to time constraint as it takes
time to establish a proper diagnosis. Late diagnosis establishment results in late
treatment. Therefore, this paper proposes a web-based rule-based information system
using the rule-based algorithm to ease monitoring and detection of anemia among
high risk pregnant mothers. The method employed is online rule-based information
system to diagnose anemia among pregnant mothers. Respondents input data of
symptoms that will then be processed by the information system to generate
diagnoses. Resulting diagnoses are displayed as they are. The rule-based method in the
information system validates data of symptoms and diagnoses with experts in the field
to serve as reference in providing health care information. This is a pre-experimental
research with one posttest group. The intervention group (N=10) was given treatment
using the information system, while the control group (N=10) was given treatment
manually. Interventions were conducted for 20 days, and measurements were carried
out on the 21st day using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The anemia
detection system for pregnant mothers developed here is proven to be effective in
helping anemia detection and has been validated by experts (midwives) and hence,
been declared valid. With effectiveness score of 90 %, this web-based rule-based
information system is effective in detecting, monitoring, and reporting anemia among
pregnant mothers.

Abstract - Labor pain is usually severe and only 2-4 % mothers experience light pain
during labor. Labor pain is treated pharmacologically, but it comes with side effects of
breathing difficulty, lower uteroplacental perfusion, fetal bradycardia, increased need
for oxytocin, and it is not cheap to administer. One of the pain management methods
available is heat therapy. Heat therapy is conventionally performed using warm water
zack or hot water compress using a towel. However, this method comes with
disadvantages of unstable temperature, wet media, and non-continuous heat effect.
This paper proposes pain reduction method using automatic heat therapy with
proportional integral derivative (PID) controller. It makes use of heat from an electric
heater attached to metal plate. The PID controller is used to manage the required
heat. A temperature sensor is attached to the plate and provides input to the PID
controller. Respondents involved were delivering mothers of Stage I Active Phase
Respondents were treated with 450cheat for 60 minutes.There were three groups;
intermittent group treated with 15-minute treatment, 5-minute pause, and 80th minute
stoppage, continuous group treated with non-stop heat that was ended on the 60th
minute, and control group given simple pain management by rubbing their backs.
Analytical results show an effect of p value <0.05.Test result on the effect of pain
intensity with p value 0.000 means that there is an effect of heat treatment on the
reduction of pain intensity for Stage I Active Phase labor.

Abstract - The increase in the population causes the problems faced are also
increasing. Problems that arise include that, the number of accident victims who have
recently often occurred on the highway, where the victims of the accident suffered
minor injuries to severe and some even have to take lives due to accidents on the
highway. And the second is crime, like a murder case that can take someone's life.
Often victims do not carry identities, making it difficult for the police or related
parties to identify victims of accidents and killings. This system is made in the hope
that it can help the police or related parties to be able to recognize the face of the
victim without an identity just by using the android application. So that it can save
more time in identifying the identity of the victim. Victim face recognition algorithm
using Facial Landmark Detector and for its implementation using the Dlib library. To
do facial recognition, it is done by taking pictures of victims using an application on
android which is then sent to the server for the recognition process. After the image is
sent to the server, the recognition process will be carried out, the results of the
introduction process are sent back to android to display the results. The level of
accuracy of the victim's face recognition with a wound if using a tolerance of 0.35 is
100%, but if using tolerance 0.2 the level of accuracy is only 25%.

Abstract - Jaundice is a serious health issue. Late treatment of jaundice cases in babies
may result in neurodevelopmental disorder and irreversible brain damage. Diagnosis
inaccuracy is usually caused by the fact that health professionals and health service
providers often rely on visual observation instead of laboratory examination. Lack of
expertise in detecting jaundice is a serious matter. This research proposes a method of
web-based digital image processing as an alternative for early detection of jaundice
based on babies ’complexion. Images of babies ’complexion and color calibration
cards are taken to obtain images for online analysis. Determination of bilirubin levels
is carried out using the method of Euclidean approximate distance of RGB values
from babies ’complexion and those of color calibration cards. Results show
correlation of Euclidean distance to bilirubin level of babies of 0.93596 and web-
based digital image processing accuracy of 90%. These mean that the information
system developed here is capable of detecting jaundice cases. This research was
performed observationally in high-risk prenatal ward involving 30 infants as samples.

Abstract—UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) is a unmanned flying machine, uses

aerodynamic force to fly and can fly automatically or remotely controlled. UAV uses
telemetry kit for communication links between UAVs and ground stations. Telemetry
devices are used to transmit data between the UAV and ground station. UAVs used in
long-range surveilance require optimal communication signal quality. Factory standard
antennas are only able to communicate up to a distance of 140 m with a maximum
power of 20 dBm from telemetry transmitters. The replacement of telemetry antennas
on ground stations and UAVs is an option to resolve the problem. On the ground
station, the helix axial mode directional antenna is made. At UAV, an antenna is made
with a material that has higher conductivity or smaller loss with a silver material. The
result of this research are helix monofilar axial mode with a gain 8,243 dBic circular
polarization to be placed at the ground station. In the telemetry antenna UAV with a
silver material produced a gain of 3,823 dBic which is greater than the standard
telemetry antenna that equal to 3,461 dBic.

Abstract—Hydroponics is the cultivation of plants that use water as a planting medium without
using soil. One of the simplest hydroponics is Deep Water Culture (DWC). DWC is a
hydroponic technique that allows plant roots to always be submerged in water containing
nutrients. The purpose of the application of controlling the level of hydroponic nutrient
solution in the type of Deep Water Culture (DWC) in the box is to ensure that the roots of the
plant are always submerged in nutrient solution so that the nutrients are still fulfilled. The
results obtained from controlling the level of hydroponic nutrient solution in the type of Deep
Water Culture (DWC) in the box is when the level of nutrient solution is less than the specified
threshold then the 12VDC pump relay will live to drain the source water to the nutrient
solution reservoir. The HC-SR04 sensor is used for reading the level of nutrient solution, so it
has an effect on determining the pump life time. The HC-SR04 sensor has a reading error of
0.87%. The duration of the pump life is determined based on the linear regression equation.
Controlling the level of nutrient solution based on linear regression linear calculation has a good
accuracy of 88.6%.

Abstract—Internet of Things is a future networks development trend that is used in many

aspects of our daily activities. Internet of Things applications in the Rural area quite difficult
because the area has a high latency on themobile internet network and it is difficult to find
an electricity source. In addition, the installation of sensors at many points it will take a lot
of costs if each node is given their own internet connection. Therefore, the wireless
heterogeneous networks (HetNet) is suitable to be appliedto the Internet of Things system in
Rural areas with an optimal use approachof the advantages possessed by LoRa, IEEE 802.11
and MQTT protocol at the application layer. LoRa Networks is a network segment with a
low data rate and low power consumption that is used as a sensor network, while WLAN is
used as the backbone network for link aggregation of LoRa Network. The experimental
results have shown that the network has a delay of 66.25 ms and packet loss of 4% for the
use of three nodes with 15 sensors.

Abstract - The rapid development of technology has created various alternative

methods in wireless communication technology. However, there are various
challenges in selecting the appropriate technology. This is so as the developed system
needs to meet specific criteria in terms of cost, maximum operating capability and fast
prototype production. For example, using Bluetooth technology requires low
development costas well as low power but this technology is lack of security/privacy
guarantee. On the other hand, Wi-Fi technology has the advantage of trasnmitting
data in faster rate but within a short distance as compared to other
methods.Alternatively, this paper investigates the feasibility of using RFBee

transmission ranges, low development costs, small energy consumption etc.. The
developed system is composed of transmitter and receiver modules where each of
them is built using an RFBee 433MHz device and one unit of Arduino based Atmega
microcontroller with an addition of an liquid crystal display (LCD) at the receiver.
Two types of quarter wave monopole antenna were used, copper and steel. This is to
examine the effect of the antenna material on the efficiency of the system. Field test
were conducted on 5 different situations, namely indoor, outdoor, indoor with
obstacle, semi-outdoor and high buiding. The performance of the system was
measured based on the distance where the data is lost and the strength of the received
signal. The results show that the RFBee based system using copper antenna function
better in outdoor condition in which the maximum distance of the data transmitted is

Abstract --This research aims to produce a GPS-based fire detection system (Global
Positioning System) and SMS Gateway. The benefits of this detection system can
detect early fire occurrence based on the detection of temperature conditions by
accommodating the nature of the fire and able to detect any rise in temperature
caused by the existence of the fire. This detection system must also be able to read
any smoke produced by a fire. To realize the system, required sensors capable of
reading the temperature and smoke. The Arduino Uno microcontroller is the brain
control system of the system. At a temperature of> 35 C, the system will activate the
DHT 11 and MQ 2 sensors that detect smoke> 50 ppm from fire. The system will
activate Buzzer as a warning in the form of the next alarm sound Global Positioning
System (GPS) will provide information in the form of coordinates of the location of
the point of fire through GSM SIM900 Module Short Message Service (SMS) to the
user. The results obtained mq2 = 128 ppm and temperature value = 38 ° C and GPS
data with latitude of -3.04798388 and a longitude of 104.78263092. From the data it is
seen that the mq2 value reaches> 50ppm and the temperature value reaches> 35 ° C,

Abstract -- Nowadays fig plants have a rapid growth in the current market due to
its rich in natural health benefiting nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins. In this
growing generation, some systems have been introduced in maintaining fig plant’s
environmental resources to grow without fail. Bitponics is a system where the user
can get the information and ways how to plan their respective plantation for their
desired plant. Even watering systems are introduced for plantation to water the
plant on time intervals which has been set. Fig farmers face two major problems on
maintaining the fruit quality of the fig plant. Firstly, if the farmers are not present in
the plantation during a blackout, they will fail to water the plant manually.
Secondly, if the plant’s environmental conditions are not taken care of, it has a high
chance of getting a contagious disease known as leaf rust. The objective is to
analyze the fig plant’s background and create a smart system to monitor the plants
conditional needs through an Android application. This system is developed using
two microcontrollers which is Raspberry Pi and Arduino Uno. Raspberry Pi is used
for the server part whereas the Arduino Uno is used for the controlling part.
Coding was done using Python, C and Java as well. Two types of sensors were used
in this system which is temperature sensor and soil moisture sensor. This system
will act according to the condition of the plant. If soil moisture is low, it will
activate the irrigation system. Whereas if the surrounding temperature is high, the
system will turn on the exhaust fan to reinstate the optimum temperature. Fig
farmers can monitor the plants condition using an Android application. Hope this

Abstract— The integration of coordinate point data, digital imaging, and various
network performance data has many uses in land mapping, which can help field
officers to keep the UAV from flying far beyond the WLAN range of coverage to the
ground station and the quality of the WLAN system does not fall in the moment of
transmission media then conducted a research as a solution to monitor the quality of
WLAN services so that UAV flights do not fly far beyond the network and to control
the quality of the media to keep the transmission in a stable state. Data of network
quality parameters such as delay and throughput are obtained from the processing of
network monitoring, Wireshark and telemetry data such as distance, altitude and
coordinates obtained when UAV is in operation in mapping the land, obtained from
flight planning application, Mission Planner. Such data can be displayed on computers
/ laptops located at the ground station for monitoring and control to maintain the
quality of network services. The test was carried out with two testing scenarios,
ground testing with a maximum distance of 100 meters and flight plan testing with a
maximum distance of 100 meters with a height of 10, 20 and 30 meters to produce
data in the form of graph delay and throughput. From these data it is shown that the

Abstract—Precise direction is important to make sure activities can be carried out

well. Many ways can be used to guide for direction, which is by traditionally or
modern approach devices. In this study, magnetometer HMC5883L and gyrometer
are compared based on their performance to determine true north. Analysis is
conducted with two different conditions which are magnetic presence and
surrounding temperature. We found that closer magnet presence to magnetometer is
highly increased heading error however this sensor does not affected by surrounding
temperature. Likewise gyrometer gives better result as it does not highly sensitive
towards magnetic presence. Besides that, from the result itself, the discussion is
confined the scientific aspect and develop the prototype for magnetometer system.

Abstract—The use of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) for monitoring systems

continues to grow, as it is required data analysis of a sensor node in which there is an
accelerometer, use WSN system intended for structural health monitoring application.
This monitoring system prototype, built by integrating software and hardware with
device microcontroller and sensor. The node sensor produces data and processed with
a microcontroller, the resulting data is then immediately transmitted to the cloud by
internet network using MQTT. The system was built with a firmware-based Internet
of Things (IoT) and this verified using accelerometer sensor node. The data has also
been explored and analyzed in the time domain and frequency domain using FFT.
Using MQTT, data can be sent directly to the internet in the form of raw data or
graph data over time. And in this paper authors do an analysis of the raw data of the
output sensor accelerometer ADXL345 and applied to monitor the bridge. From
experiments, conducted output accelerometer sensor can vary depending on the
sensitivity of the values.

Abstract- Based on the planning guideline of Health Monitoring System of Bridge Structure of
Kementrian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat, one of the main components needed in
bridge health monitoring system is a communication system. The application of the WSN
(Wireless Sensor Network) function to perform monitoring can be used to create a more
practical system. Based on the system, required hardware that can be integrated with the
software and can connect on wireless. Proposed methods using WSN (Wireless Sensor
Network) on devices, then do testing on connectivity to obtain network quality and data sensor.
Data sensor will be uploaded on the cloud can be accessed from various places that connected
to the Internet network thus forming an IoT(Internet of Things)based system with using
Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol. Experiments carried out in two ways
of connectivity, point-to-point and star topology to determine the network quality of each
device, which is NodeMCU and Mi-Fi modems.Network quality parameters can be known by
looking at the value of packet loss, delay, jitter, and throughput. In the results, the MQTT
Protocol applied to build IoT system. In addition, proposed methods that used in this research
has a great quality network with packet loss <25 ms. However, there’s a big gap between serial
data and online data that makes MQTT protocolis not suitable for monitoring systems that
require fast data transfer.
