EDUC 103/112 (The Teaching Profession)

Course Code and Title

Name of Faculty: RODOLFO C. DE VERA

A. Course Description
This course deals with the teacher as a person and as a professional
within the context of national and global teachers’ standards, educational
philosophies and legal bases. It includes identification of core values that
uphold the dignity of the teaching profession, discussion of the code of ethics
for professional teachers and awareness of laws and jurisprudence governing
professional rights, privileges and responsibilities, as well as the teachers’ roles
in the society as a transformative agent of change.

B. Course Objectives
At the end of the course, the pre-service teachers can:
A. demonstrate understanding of the philosophical, historical, legal, socio-
cultural and political factors that influence teaching and its
development as a profession;
B. articulate a personal philosophy of teaching;
C. demonstrate understanding of existing laws and related jurisprudence
governing professional ethics, professional rights, privileges, and
responsibilities;
D. manifest dignity in the teaching profession through caring, attitude,
respect, and integrity in teaching; and
E. demonstrate motivation to realize personal growth and professional
development based on the Philippine Professional Standards for
Teachers

F. Course Requirements

G. Grading System
1. Class Standing --- 60% (projects, quizzes, assignments, performance tasks)
2. Midterm/Final Exam --- 40%

H. Classroom Policies

1. Students must adhere to the policies stated in the DMMMSU Student


Handbook.
2. Students must be regular and punctual in attending their classes.
3. Students must wear the prescribed uniform for each day.
4. Students who miss a quiz/activity because of a valid reason must inform
the teacher their desire for a special quiz/examination/activity.
5. Students are encouraged to actively participate in class activities.
