Evaluation Application for Internal Evaluation is a tool developed for carrying out
evaluations in Karnataka Forest department. This application consists of two Interphases.
1. Web-Interphase- for filling secondary data/ basic information of selected works that are
to be sampled, visualization of sampled data, analysis & interpretation.
2. Android- Application – for evaluating the works in field.

Generation of Work-Code
After filling up the form (all fields are mandatory), work code is to be generated. This work
code is based on Plantation
tation name,
name and will be unique. The
he work is identified during field
evaluation through this work code.
code
After generating the Work code, plantation map (saved with Plantation name) if available is
attached and form is submitted. If there are no errors/ blanks are present the data will be
submitted to server otherwise such errors/ blanks will be prompted.
Reports
After the form is submitted details of same can be viewed and downloaded from Reports
menu.

3.2 Field evaluation usingg Android Application
The
he list forms that are to be filled during field evaluation will appear.. This includes 4 sub
sub-
forms, i.e. planting activity, SMC, VFC, Boundary Protection.

In these forms, Basic data that are filled in web-form
web will also be available for the evaluator
for viewing and editing along with field evaluation form.
Planting Activity-
In this form,, there are 2 major parts. One is 1. Perambulation and Sample plot inventory
2.General
General Observations of plantation.

centre points (Red balloons) will appear. These markers can be reverted and placed again if
needed.
These Red balloons will show the GPS points of the sample plot centre points. The
number of sample plots is based on net area of the plantation i.e. 1 sample plot/ 5Ha.
Taking these points as centre, sample plots are to be laid. The size of each sample
plot should be 1000 Sq. Meters (0.1Ha) grid having measurement of 31.62 meters X 31.62
meters.
After reaching the sample plot centre,
centre (can be reached either with GPS instrument
instr or
the maps screen on the app) if the point selected is not suitable for laying plot
plot, please lay
sample plot taking a point to the left or right side of the generated point.

In each sample plot, for each species,
species data regarding Average girth, Average height vigour of
seedlings planted etc. to be recorded. Numbers of empty pits/trenches in the sample plot
are also to be recorded. Details
etails of failures if known,, are also to be recorded.
In each sample plot, if the seed dibbling is done and natural regeneration is present; such
data regarding seeds dibbled, natural regeneration should also be collected.
General observations
Similarly, forms regarding SMC works, VFC, and Boundary protection are to be filled. During
evaluation of SMC works, 2 SMC works with highest expenditure have to be evaluated.

After filling all the fields, the forms must be saved and approved. The data so entered can be
edited until the form is approved. After approving, editing is not possible, and approving a
form requires filling of all the fields in that form.
Control plots
In case of plantation raised under ANR and Eco-restoration models, a control plot (0.1ha)
has to be laid at least 200 m (outside) away from the plantation boundary and natural
regeneration of this plot have to be recorded.

4. Form 3 - Evaluation of other works
4.1 Web-form
Web form of each work (Buildings/ Roads/ SMC Structure/ boundary consolidation etc)
which has to be evaluated has to be filled using secondary data that are available in the
Range office. This form is accessed from Homepage of the webpage.
While filling the other work forms, number of works to be evaluated in the range is to be
added. Forms of each work have to be filled and saved.
Details regarding Costs, Approvals and Execution of works are to be entered in the above
form using secondary data that are available in the Range office
office.

Generation of Work-Code
After filling up each form (all fields are mandatory) work code is generated. This work code
is based on Name and Location of work and will be unique, through this work code the work
is identified in mobile-application
application during field evaluation.
Iff there are no errors/ blanks present then the data will be submitted to server otherwise
such errors/ blanks will be prompted.
Reports
After the form
rm is submitted details of the form filled can be viewed and downloaded from
Reports menu from the home page.
On selecting Form3–Evaluation

In each sample plot, earthwork inventory data has to be filled, which includes counting of
pits/trenches, natural regene ration inventory etc.
Similarly, forms regarding SMC works, VFC, and Boundary protection are to be filled. During
evaluation of SMC works,
ks, 2 SMC works with highest expenditure have to be evaluated.
After filling all the fields, the forms must be saved and approved. Data entered in these

photographs wherever required.

7. Line transect method and Laying sample plots
As per the sampling intensity, number of sample plots of 0.1 ha will be determined.
To locate these sampling units randomly and evenly in the plantation area either the grid
method or the line transect method may be adopted. If the plantations sketches are geo
referenced with proper latitude/longitude co-ordinates marked on them, grid method may
be followed. The centre of sampling units with their latitude/longitude may be located on
the ground by using G.P.S.
Since the plantation sketches are not geo-referenced the line transect method may
be used to lay sample plots. As this method is also based on the principle of systematic
random sampling so that bias is avoided. Here the principal transact line is drawn on the
cadastral sketch from the North-West direction passing through centre of plantation
(approximately). After determining the N.W. point on plantation boundary transect at 1350,
bearing is drawn passing through the centre of sketch crossing up to the other end. Parallel
to the principal transect few more transects on either side of it may be drawn at suitable
regular spacing.
7.2 Laying Sample plots (For Evaluation of Advance work and Plantation)
Sample plots may be located on these transects at suitable regular spacing as per the
requirement of sampling intensity of the evaluation. Care should be taken to ensure that
the sampling units are not located on the boundary, but inside the plantation on the
transect. Distance between the sampling units on the transect and number of transects will
depend on the number of sampling units to be marked.
To mark the sample plot of 0.1 ha on the transect from the sample plot centre, semi
diagonals of 22.36 meters will be marked along the transect on either side of the plot
centre. Perpendicular to this two other semi diagonals may be marked. By joining the end
points of these diagonals, boundaries of sample plots may be drawn which will have each
side 31.62 m.

Example:
Scale used in village map 8”=1 mile i.e. 1 cm is approximately equal to 4 chains.
As shown above starting from the point on the boundary in N.W direction at the interval of
1cm/2cm/3cms (as the case may be) sample plots may be located. If more sampling units
are required subsidiary transects 2A & 2B parallel to the principal transect at the
perpendicular distance of 1cm/2cm/3cm (as the case may be) may be drawn and on them
further sampling units at the same distance may be marked. If required this may further be
continued, following similar/design.
