1.0 INTRODUCTION

This method statement outline the procedure for the bored pile remedial work.
The soft teo phenomena occurred due to base cleaning by cleaning bucket not
able to total clean up the bored hole base. As the remedial works responded to
the soft teo, base grouting to surround pile in order to increase the friction to
the rock interface.
The packer grouting consists 2 stages which drilling and grouting the
methodology was described as the procedure below. The drilling work will be
carried out up to the required depth and the grouting will be carried out at
1.5m per section depending the depth of soft toe

Type of Grouting Methods

 Ascending (Stage Up) method to be adopted where the foundation is in
solid to moderately weathered condition.

The drilling procedure in this construction will be using the hammer drilling
system. The temporary steel casing of 100 to 150mm size which will be used
up to the stable stratum level in order to prevent the soil from collapsing and
continue drilling with the hammer of 100mm size to required depth. The
borehole size used will be of 100-125mm.

2.0 MATERIAL

 OPC Cement
 Water
 Grout Packer (single packer)

 750 cfm Air Compressor
 Casing with tiger jaw
 Grout pump
 Hammer

4.0 CONSTRUCTION METHOD:

4.1 DRILLING
1. Temporary casing of 100-125mm to be installed approximately 10m
depth (refer to appendix).
2. The temporary casing will be installed up to the hard layer.
3. Hammer drill 100mm with 75mm rod will be used to drill through the
weathered rock up to required depth.
4. The hole will be flushed with air compressor until clean water is
observed and the depth of the drilled hole will be measured and
recorded.

4.2 GROUTING
1. Grouting will be carried out for the base sections with 1.5m depth per
section.
2. Connecting the grout tube and lowering the packer to the required
depth, pressured and inflated the packer to 150mm with 6 to 7 bar to
hold the at the rock level.
3. Mix the grout material as per proposed, prepared for the cube and start
grouting work.
4. The size of the packer to be used for grouting is of 150mm diameter
for the injection of the grout materials, which the drill hole of 100mm
5. Pumping the grout slowly and monitor the grout intake quantity and
record it, once the pressure achieve 5 bars hold to pressure with

holding of 5 mins in order to keep the grout flow to the rock and
interface of the toe base.

6.0 GROUT MIX

Range of water/cement ratio 0.40

Cement 150 kg (3 bags)
Water 60 kg (liter)
Sika- intraplast –Z 1.5 kg (1% weight of cement)
Target Resistance to crushing
(cube strength) 40 N/mm2 (28 days)

The quantities of cement in the mix shall be measured by weight. The grout shall
be free from segregation, slumping and bleeding. Grout shall be mixed on site
and shall be pumped into its final position as soon as possible.

Non-shrink admixture (SIKA Intraplast-Z ) shall be added at approximately 1%

by weight.

5.0 SAFETY AND HEALTH

 Supervisors are to ensure that the work place is safe.

 Machinery and equipment:

 All machinery and equipment are to be inspected before carrying
out the work to ensure that it is functions

 Safety features:
 All supervisor and labors are to wear safety helmet and safety boot
when entering to site. Safety belt also to be use if it is necessary.

 All workers and supervisors shall beware of danger all the time on site.

INFLATABLE PACKERS

Geopro manufactures and supplies worldwide a complete range of inflatable packers

available in nine different diameters from ø 28 mm to 170mm. All our packers’ inflatable
elements of BIMBAR* technology, are reinforced with two layers of steel cables
embedded in natural rubber.

The deflated packer is lowered into the drilled borehole. The packer is then inflated with
neutral gas or liquid injected through an inflation line. A bore-hole section is thus isolated
and hydrological tests or cement grouting works can be conducted in this area.

Thanks to their modular design, all Geopro packers offer reliable and easy operation.
Inflatable elements can be replaced in the field and single packers are easily adapted into
double packers.
