from the  experienced, and becoming one of them.
Here at Kampus, life won't always be easy, but there'll be
moments of inexpressible joy. For all these moments to
laugh along and find a shoulder to cry on, you'd find this

Student's Alumni Cell is the face of the institute in
representing its rich alumni base. We represent the glories,
positions and designations of our distinguished alumni and
the expectations of their Alma mater i.e. our campus from our
alumni.
The role enshadows the responsibility of executing the motto
of cherish, collaborate and connect. A nine member team is a
holistic one which is finely capable of hosting few of the
biggest flagship events of the campus.

It begins with hosting alumni interaction for the new incoming
batch to Nostalgia which is the Kampus come down of the
alums to revive their days via a get together. Along with that
we organize a number of classroom sessions with alums of
different fields and domains so as to facilitate one on one
interaction, healthy discussions and live experience learning.
Sangam is another flagship event hosted in 12 cities across
the country and overseas (Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Kochi,
Delhi etc.) to mark the city chapter meets of alumni and the
current batches.
Being a part of this committee is not just a privilege of Living
the Konnection but an opportunity to make the Konnection
available to all. When you do it, you prove your mettle and
living that achievement is bliss that Students' Alumni Cell
offers.

‘Backwaters’ – A team with a simple motto – Adding B to B-
School.
We are a group of closely knit, enthusiastic individuals who
wish to practically see whether the theory holds weight in
the real world.
Backwaters’ annual business summit of IIM Kozhikode is a
confluence of corporates, young aspiring leaders and
scholars to facilitate the exchange of ideas and tackle
problems that have been crafted to create new frontiers in
the realm of management.
Backwaters is a test of the acumen and experience of the
brightest students of the top management institutes across
the country. They are tested across all the verticals of
management, leaving no stone unturned in the quest for
excellence. We have grown immeasurably since our
inception, with 30+ events, 50,000+ participants, across the
multitude of B-schools in India.

Backwaters 2018 was a roaring success with students from

more than 300 institutes across India including the top 20 B-
schools participating in the 3-day event. The star attractions
included Chennai Super Kings: Return of Pride (live case study
for the Chennai Super Kings IPL team management), Avatar:
The Ultimate CEO (competition to choose the best CEO),
White Knight (national level business plan competition), TEDx
Talks (conducted independently by the Backwaters
Committee), Model United Nation (simulation and
competition), Shiksha (training programme for high school
and college students to prepare them for various
competitive examinations), etc.
Section Wars, an inter-sectional fest for the
incoming batch at Kampus is conducted in
association with Backwaters Committee. It also
hosts simulation events with corporates (ICICI
StockMind), annual quizzing events (En-Route,
Bizzathlon) and debating competitions (Annual
Great Debate) along with publishing an annual
management magazine, MindScape.
We endeavor to make Backwaters a place of
learning while igniting the competitive fire in
all of us which encourages everyone to think
above and beyond the set norms. Pushing
boundaries and setting new standards is what
Backwaters aspire for.

Started in 2010 with the aim of providing a platform for civic
engagement and generating awareness on social issues,
Calicut mini Marathon, with its 10 km competitive run and a 3 km
dream run, has since grown into one of the most participated mini
marathons with runners from countries such as Ethiopia and Kenya. We
are proud to say that Calicut mini Marathon is the first and to our best
knowledge is the biggest student organized marathon in the country.
The marathon has supported various social causes over the years with
themes such as ‘Compassionate Kozhikode’, ‘Transforming lives’,
‘Empowering Women’, ‘War on Waste’, ‘Gift a Life’ and ‘Road Safety’,
‘Compassionate Kozhikode’ and ‘Healthy Living’.
In our quest to make the society a better place to live in we have joined
hands with many NGOs, corporates, educational institutes, district
administration and civic authorities over the years. For this purpose we
organize various lead up events such as Launch at the Calicut Press
Club, Flash Mob at the beach and a shopping mall, Bike and Cycle
Rally, sand sculpture, campus run, running workshops, promotion at
movie theatres etc. in the months preceding the marathon to generate
awareness about the theme.
The theme for the Marathon was ‘Eco-Friendly Kozhikode’, Calicut Half

District Administration. Brand hotshots such as Peekay Steel, Bosq, V-
Guard and Nexa were official sponsors of the marathon.

IT COMMITTEE

KIM | AMIT | SHUBHAM

Another year of e-sports management, IT product management and
feeding the internet demands of the vibrant IIMK community awaits
you at the Students’ IT Committee.
We begin working right after the incoming Konverts list is sealed. IT
Comm members negotiate with laptop vendors of top laptop brands
to get irresistible deals for the incoming batch and the entire IIMK
Community once every year. Once the year begins, we facilitate the
placements process by managing the IIMKLive! Domain and IDs for
all PGP students and student bodies.
One of our permanent contributions is conceptualizing and building
modules on the intranet. The Complaint Management System was
deployed by PGP21’s IT Committee and PGP22 IT Committee is
currently beta-testing a Mess Account Passbook. This is where you
get to be a product manager and brag about it on your CV.
We are also the vanguards of data handed over to us by previous
PGP batches, now affectionately known as the alumni. There’s loads
of insights, books and preparatory material here so you’ll effectively
be guarding a gold mine. We manage this data over the campus
direct connect server that responds to hundreds of download queries
every day.
We also enforce campus IT infrastructure rules as it is our
responsibility to ban email spammers. The members of the Students’
IT Committee are the only students on the entire campus to have
unrestricted access to the internet – this means it is your
responsibility to satisfy the content and software download needs of
everyone on the campus.
As a member of IT Comm, you will be the liaison of the student
community with the computer centre. That means having admin
access to CC resources as well. In 2019, the IT Committee facilitated
Armageddon, the e-sports event in Section Wars. CyberWars 2K19
also saw two nights of insane e-sports across CS, NFS, AOE, FIFA,
PocketTanks and the likes of them. You think you’ve got new games
you can admin for next year? We invite you to show us what you’ve
got.
Come make IT work, with the Students’ IT Committee.

win in over 8 years.

topicalish quizzes on finance, business quizzes and so on.

The team was also into organising and facilitating quizzes
during various fests in college whether it is Roobaroo or
Echoes or Backwaters.

FOOTVIBES

DAMINI | MONIKA | KALYANI |

SAJAL
Started in 2009 by a bunch of Dance enthusiasts of PGP12
batch of IIM Kozhikode, Footvibes is primal club of the
institute which has proven to be creative outlet for country's
most gifted managerial minds. .

Passion..Pursuit..Performance.... are the three words which
drive us.

We attempt at connecting everybody who is enthusiastic
towards dance or already a dancer and provide them a
platform to keep alive the dancer in them.

Amidst the busy schedule and workload, the club has been
able to put up fabulous performances and has made a place
for itself in the artistic arena of IIM Kozhikode. It’s not just the
club or its members but the bunch of dancers, who make
every performance successful. This clearly defines the quote,
"Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are
here we should dance".

Hope the legacy continues for ages to come.

RAHUL | ANSHU
This club stands for Creative arts and craftworks at IIM
Kozhikode. This club provides the creative souls a stage to
display their skills and let loose their imagination. In a B
School where originality of thought and expressiveness is
rewarded, this club sharpens those artistic skills through
many events. This club is represented along with other
committees and clubs during campus events like Backwaters,
Nostalgia, Echoes & Festivals to showcase the visual forms of
art and craftworks.
It organizes online art quizzes which involves participation
from many B schools across the nation. Once a year, it also
organizes and rewards the students with most creative and
artistic rooms. On fests, events like art marathon, face
painting, T-shirt designing are held.

artistry and scintillating light and craft works to give it a
creative appeal. Kalakriti makes students to jump out of their

K-MATINEE

AKSHARA | ANIRUDH
J.R.R. Tolkien wrote and we quote," That there's some
good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth fighting
for."

We, at K-Matinee, the official movie club at IIM

Kozhikode, do just that, and more.
Bringing you movies from all across the world, we
ensure a steady supply of entertainment on God's
own Kampus ranging from Game of Thrones
screenings to Oscar celebrations.
Our portfolio comprises movies ranging from all-time
classics to mega blockbusters with the right sprinkling
of regional and exotic offerings and this year we plan
to make it bigger, bolder and better.

The force is indeed strong with this one!

KRESCENDO

NIKHIL | JAY | DEEPAK

We at Krescendo believe in the power of music!

Krescendo forms an integral part of all the cultural events at IIM

Kozhikode.

Starting with Roobaroo, the power-packed performances goes on
throughout the year with events like Open Mic night, K-Nite and
performances at Backwaters and Echoes. It finally winds up with the
stellar performance at Nostalgia.

Krescendo has grown with new initiatives taken every year. We have
a strong repository of tutorial videos and lessons like lick library
which provide the help needed for one and all.

With a lot more in store for this year, Krescendo is delighted to

welcome the new batch of music lovers and anticipates an active
participation so that all the music fanatics can come together to
jam, perform and create music.
PROLITCULT

VARUN | NITISHA | AAQIB

ProLitCult is a platform for literary enthusiasts and jabberwockies to
explore and express one's literary talents. It conducts a plethora of
activities in the Kampus fests.

The intense competitive fervour of Kozhikode's management fest

leaves many participants drained and exhausted. This is where
ProLitCult adds fun to the rather serious B-fest. The strongest
presence made by any club for Echoes 2018 was that of ProLitCult.
There were 4 events conducted — JAM, Dumbcharades, Literary
Treasure Hunt & Argumentator - with around 70 participants and an
even bigger crowd pulling.

A biannual literary magazine highlighting the contributions by

Komrades is published under the name "Pulse K". The club also
maintains a literary blog and collaborates with the other IIMs for
competitions. This year it plans to organize a literature fest in
association with any major Kampus event with literary talks,
competitions and lit nites.
THEATRIX

RIK | NITISH | RIA | BHAVYA

Our daily lives are engrossed in drama; the lilting tunes of life
more than often gets ruffled by the different elements of
showmanship hidden inside us.  Theatre is thus a mirror
upheld towards this enchanting juggernaut of life, miraging
its very appeal, luring the viewer to appreciate its finer
nuances. Be it the make-up of the actors, the obnoxiously
hilarious caricatures, or the captivating melodies associated
with a stage production - all bring to life the playwright's
take on the fun and frolic in life. How can one forget those
nostalgic dramas, seen through teary eyes, sheltered in our
parents' arms as our emotions danced with the trepidations
of the theatre protagonist. Such was the power of theatre in
our minds, specially before the digital revolution, that a
well-enacted drama still evokes the same longing for
fulfilment.

'Theatrix' is thus not just a student run club, in the midst of
other well managed bodies. It is in fact a rendition of the
theatrics within the students of IIM Kozhikode. We are just a
facilitator. The B -School life enables humans to get
acclimatized to the busy corporate life, leaving aside the
emotions that slow our sharp pecuniary minds. Thus Theatrix
is the perfect antidote to this "What's this life full of care
We have no time to stand and stare" syndrome, letting the
students to think and reflect on humane ideals, moral
dilemmas, the sweet nothings and the million vagaries of life
that leaves the arteur amazed.
As the stage welcomes yet another production from the house
of Theatrix, we assure our audience that it's never too late to
embrace the stage!

experiential communication, and leadership skills development in the
world.

Established recently in December 2018, IIM Kozhikode Toastmasters is

an official chapter of Toastmasters International and is the latest
entry to the student bodies. The purpose of the IIM Kozhikode
Toastmasters is to serve as a platform for students of IIMK to come
together and enhance their skills. Faculties and experienced
Toastmasters are regularly invited to our meetings to guide us.

If you love public speaking or are determined to improve your overall

communication & leadership skills or if you want to be a part of a
vibrant global community, then Toastmasters is the right place for
you.

The Meetings are held at least once a week. Each meeting consists of
3 parts namely,
1) Prepared Speeches - Members are given a speech slot in advance
in which they deliver a prepared speech.

2) Table Topics - Along with the prepared speech skills, it is

necessary to have excellent impromptu speaking skills. In this part,
topics are given on the spot, and the member has to speak on it for
2-3 minutes.

3) Evaluation and recognition - Feedback is the tool for improvement

at Toastmasters. Each prepared speaker is assigned an evaluator
who gives constructive feedback for improvement.
There are also various roles like Toastmaster of the Day,
Ahh Counter, Timer, Grammarian, etc. which help to
improve other aspects of communication like listening
skills, usage of grammar.

Apart from meetings, we also conduct regular

competitions at the club, college, and state level.
In the last term, we organized the following competitions:
1) Prepared, Impromptu, and Evaluation speech contest.
The winners of which further competed with the best
speakers around at the area level, with one of them
achieving the 3rd place award.

2) Turncoat, Improv, and Humorous speech zonal contest.

The winners represented IIM K at finals where 100+ top
speakers from 30+ colleges across two states competed.

the budding shutterbugs in the campus.

collaborating their efforts and create a platform for
the Komrades to showcase and develop their skills
.

for IIM Kozhikode.
UMEED
SKANDA | NISHIT | SOURIA |
JITHA | AMAN | MURTAZA |
MADHAVARAJ
Umeed is the unofficial LGBTQIA+ awareness group of IIM
Kozhikode.

The purpose of Umeed is to promote diversity, inclusivity and

equality among the students of IIM Kozhikode, especially with
respect to (but not limited to) the LGBTQIA+ community.

The goals of Umeed are congruent with the necessary

attributes of a modern manager. Being global citizens, it is –
in the least – our moral responsibility to understand and
mobilise the nuances of inclusivity in our personal and
professional spheres.

Umeed strives to enable open conversation and dismiss

hesitation surrounding the cause for the LGBTQIA+
communities around the campus, and by extension, the world.

Its mission includes creating awareness about gender and

sexuality identities, issues of bias and discrimination and the
effects of poor sensitivity inherent in the Indian corporate
scenario. It works towards providing a forum for members of
the LGBTQIA+ and wider community to express themselves
and therefore, empower those around them to interact with
their environment with more empathy.

Umeed counts among the youngest student bodies on

campus. Coupled with its unofficial status, its presence, so far,
on campus has been felt in subtle tones. In this academic
year, Umeed plans to play host to, including but not limited
to, movie screenings, panel discussions, debates and
discussions and creatives.

Welcome, PGP23.
