I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the session, the students must be able to:
1. Identify the different ways of separating techniques of a mixture;
2. describe the separating techniques for mixtures;
3. determine the appropriate separating techniques for the given mixture; and
4. appreciate the importance of different separating techniques in our everyday
lives.

Expand
1. Presentation of output by group.
2. Discussion of separation techniques.
Explain
Evaporation - the process used to obtain a soluble solid (Solute) that has been
dissolved from a solution.
Filtration - is the process of separating suspended solid matter from a liquid, by
causing the latter to pass through the pores of some substance, called a filter. The liquid
which has passed through the filter is called the filtrate.
Centrifugation - is used to separate immiscible liquid into layers based on density.
under the influence of the centrifugal force.
Decantation - it is done to separate particulates from a liquid by allowing the solids to
settle to the bottom of the mixture and pouring off the particle-free part of the liquid.
- It is to allow two immiscible liquids to separate and the lighter liquid is poured off.
Chromatography - is an analytical method used to separate colored chemicals or
substances using filter paper suspended in a solvent.
