1) Description

Baguio rice terraces is a painting finished by Fernando amorsolo, 1944. This type of artwork
can be considered as a realist art. The background scene is the main point of the painting. The
mountains, the man carrying a basket and the rices terraces are the objects shown in the
painting. My/our first impression of the artwork is that the scene it gives makes us/me want to
feel the touch of nature. The main colors that are used is in the painting are green, white, blue
and brown. The painting consists of flowing lines, organic shapes and both rough and smooth
texture. The Mood and visual effect that this painting portays calm and peaceful, the scene gives
a nature vibe.

2) Analyze

The colors used in the painting is shades of green to build the nature type of painting. It also
has shades of blue to add the sky and water in the painting. Also uses brown and earth colors.
The shapes used and lines used are uneven to show the beauty of the mountains and the rice
terraces. The texture is rough and is painted on canvas. Light and shadow of the painting is
nicely done, it made the painting much better. These elements contribute to the mood of the
painting which is peaceful and quiet type of mood and showed the beauty of the rice terraces in
Baguio. It also has that aesthetic sensation because of the way the elements contribute.

3) Interpretation

Fernando amorsolo is the artist aim to figure out the the traditional filipino folkways of living.
Just like in the painting, the filipino carrying the basket of fruits from the mountain of rice
terraces from baguio ifugao. Fernando Amorsolo shows the traditional common work of a filipino
living in the middle of a farm.

The painting explains the common work of a filipinos. Farming is one of the traditional work
industry in our country and the painting trying to explain to the other people the daily living of a
farmers. And Fernando Amorsolo appreciate the traditional ways of living being a filipino. He
wants to show us the hard work of a farmers and he want us to appreciate the treasure in our
nature.

4) Evaluation

The value of the painting is to make us honor our farmers and not treat them bad because
their just farmers. Even though they are in a low status in our community, let us not forget that
without them we also don't have rice grain that we Filipinos consume for everyday not just once
but three or more times we eat rice a day. And it also reminds us that rice grains are not
something that we just throw away when we don't want it. But it is something that is very
precious and very valuable because it was produce with effort and energy of our humble and
productive farmers.
