DESCRIPTION
In recent years the search for oil has required operations in progressively deeper waters by mobile offshore drilling
units. Drilling at these depths places strong demands on equipment, particularly the cable and connectors that link
subsea operations to the surface. pb^`lk addressed the equipment problem by developing an underwater connec-
tor system with high reliability, improved condition assessment capability and better maintainability. pb^`lk's next-
generation multiplex (MUX) cable termination system is the tangible result of the company's ability to apply real-world
operator field experience to its product design and produce a step-change improvement in connector performance.
pb^`lk's range of MUX systems consist of 1 Atmosphere and Positively Pressurized (orccJkbh) connector solu-

SEPARATED ARMOR TERMINATION POINT FOR CONTRA-HELICAL
ARMOR-WOUND DEEPWATER MUX CABLES
DESCRIPTION
The ^q^ allows contra-helical armor to be terminated a distance away from the end electrical connection of a MUX
umbilical cable. This makes terminated cable handling much more manageable, and provides an emergency break-
away point which preserves SEM integrity. The interior armor 'plug' is mechanical, no epoxy is used. The dual-cone
technology assures holding strengths exceeding 75% of cable breaking strength.

POSITIVELY PRESSURIZED, DEEPWATER MUX CABLE CONNECTOR
DESCRIPTION
The jppn
orccJkbh
``m connector is a MUX cable termination that maintains a constant positive pressure (max 60 psi / 4.0 Bar)
inside its oil-filled volume via a spring-loaded piston. This prevents water ingress to internal conductor elements that could create
electrical short circuits. Additional internal water barriers are formed through advanced elastomeric boot sealing technology to seal
each individual cable element. This ensures full functionality even in a major event where the internal oil volume becomes complete-
ly water flooded. The jppn
orccJkbh
``m is field installable and testable. It is currently available in both all-electric and hybrid
(electro-optic) configurations as listed in the tables below. The overall connector designs are modular, where only the cable termina-
tion element needs to be specifically designed to suit the characteristics of different cables.
KEY FEATURES

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The orccJkbh was designed to be an integral part of the MUX umbilical cable termination system shown below (example
A251-101):
The Armor Termination Assembly is secured to the host structure using a Breakaway
Unit that is designed to separate at a pre-determined load of approximately 8,000 lbf
(35,600 N). The cable armor is terminated to the ^q^, which removes the cable strain
from the connector. The cable inner jacket is then routed and the smaller, more man-
ageable orccJkbh is connected to the host control system. In the case of uninten-
tional BOP disconnect, the Breakaway Unit shears and the unarmored section of
cable pulls out of the orccJkbh. Generally, all metallic components can be re-used
in the event of cable re-termination.

POSITIVELY PRESSURIZED, DEEPWATER MUX CABLE CONNECTOR WITH
INTEGRAL ARMOR TERMINATION ASSEMBLY
DESCRIPTION
The p_m
pÉêáÉë connector is a MUX cable termination that maintains a constant positive pressure inside its oil-filled
chambers. Positive pressure maintained via spring loaded pistons, deters water ingress from conductor interstices
and other sources. Inside the connector advanced conductor boot sealing technology assures functionality even if
the p_m
pÉêáÉë connector is water-flooded. The p_m
pÉêáÉë connector is field installable and testable. Dual barrier
seals are used throughout the connector. It is currently available in an electro-optical hybrid configuration designed
for both single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical communications.
KEY FEATURES
· Overall length: 28.2" · Modular cable terminations and Field Installable
· Overall Diameter: 8" (no compounds)
· Test port for mated connector condition · Dual Pressure Compensated Chambers
· Operational Depth Rating: 5,300 psi (12,000 ft) · Rear Chamber: Up to approx. 60 psi
· Front Chamber: Up to approx. 35 psi
· Integral Cable Armor Termination
DESIGN RATINGS
· Design Life: 20 years · Conductor Insulation Resistance:
· Qualification Test Pressure: 6,500 psi (14,500 ft) 1.0 Gohm @ 1,000 VDC
· Design Pressure: 8,000 psi (17,900 ft) · Cable Working Load: 6,000lb
· Secondary seals on contacts allow for operation even · Qualified by test including long term (3 months) at
if water flooded design pressure in fully water flooded condition (refer
to qualification test report SAPL-ENG-1066)
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The SBP Series Connector was designed to be an integral part of the MUX umbilical cable termination system. The
6,000lb Armor Termination is integral to the connector body allowing the tensioned cable loads to be carried through
the connection interface. The SBP connector is a flange mounted configuration allowing for good load transfer using
16, ½-20 x 1 -1/4 LG HEX SCT Cap Screws.

IN-LINE, FIBER OPTIC, FIELD SPLICE
& ARMOR TERMINATION
DESCRIPTION
The in-line, fiber optic, field splice and armor termination is a Field Installable & Testable Assembly (FITA) design that
allows two armored fiber optic cables to be spliced together in the field. The cables are prepared and the kits are
assembled together in the field with final integrity testing via pressure ports. These designs are qualified and
operational underwater with 24 optical fibers, using low-loss, high reliability splicing and a 4,500 lb. (2,040kg) tension
load armor termination. It can be adapted for different cables, quantity of fibers and armor termination requirements.
KEY FEATURES
· Qualified design · Low profile at less than Ø4.5" (Ø114mm)
· Field installable and testable · Titanium seawater-wetted material for mid-cable
· Field proven isolation
· Modular design · NBR o-rings
· Number of fibers · Acetal anti-snag collars
· Armor tension · Neoprene cable boots
· Cable type
