FFRF is 8 national noaproft organization with more than 30,000 members aeross the county, including ‘more than 300 members in Tensessee anda local chap. Our purposes ae to protect the ‘constitutional prneple of sepution between state and church, and to educate the public on ‘matters relating to nomheism ‘A concerned ara resident has reported tat coaches at Springfield High School have been ‘promoting and endorsing religion to students, including baptizing to students on the school's Tosbal field and employing acharacter coach” to instil religion in students, We understand that coaches may also be participating in prayer with students (Our complainant reports that or August 7, 2019, Chad Diehl, a minister at Bethlebem Baptist (Church and “character coach” forthe Springfelé High Schoo football tam, baptized two players ‘on the schoo's football ili rot ofthe rest ofthe team and coaches. One ofthe coaches, Jake BBurtram, tweeted a photo rom the haptsm with the message, "Great day fortwo young men ‘being baptized in front of ou eam and out Fld. Is equally inappropriate and unconstitutional for ‘coaches to participate in religions activities wth students, Itisillegal for coaches to organize or participate in religious activities with students, including ‘baptisms. Nor can coaches allow religious leaders to gain unigue access o students during school-sponsored activities.
