DISCOVERING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU (SOL3)

A KIND OF LEADER THAT GOD WANTS YOU TO BE

TEACHER’S MANUAL

GENERAL INTRODUCTION
TEXT: I Samuel 16:7 – But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I
have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things that the man looks at. Man looks at the
outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

Importance:
One of the most critical areas in an organization and/or ministry is leadership. A right leader can propel
the organization upward while a wrong one pulls it downward. This statement is correct: “Where the
leadership goes, the church goes!”

We therefore say that leadership is crucial in fulfilling the ministry’s mission, vision, and goals. The Lord
looks for a leader who can fulfill them in the light of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) because
only those who pass the Lord’s standard can carry or fulfill that sacred call.

Our challenges as a leader toward fulfilling MVV:

a. On the personal level: First, we must experience personal transformation and follow the example
of Christ (Romans 8:29) before becoming effective in influencing other people’s lives.

b. Ministry and society:

To influence systems, To create impact on

practices, culture and lifestyle, Kingdom expansion
norms and values contribute to and dominion on
of people, lead and church effectiveness society (Societal
disciple them to Christ in relation to its mission or Transformation)
mandate

God uses men or women so that His purpose may be fulfilled.

Deliverance of Israel from 400 years slavery in Egypt – God called Moses (Exodus 3)
Planned annihilation of the Jews – God called Esther who was bold in confronting King
Artaxerses. A woman who belongs to a weaker sex yet strong in terms of pushing God’s agenda
in their generation. (Book of Esther)
Opening of the Gospel to the Gentiles – God called Paul who boldly stood before the Sanhedrin
and Pontius Pilate to justify that salvation is by faith and not by works. (Acts 22).

The criteria in selecting leaders to fulfill a certain purpose in the secular is far different from that of the
Lord’s Ministry’s criteria. In the secular, brilliance and appearance are the names of the game. In the
Ministry, it’s different. Example: When God chose David as the next king of Israel.

1Samuel 16:7
“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The
Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord
looks at the heart.” (v.7)

In that light, how does God choose a leader? What are the qualities that He looks for a leader? As a
leader or as a person who wants to become a leader, what does God want you to become?
