Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

In our situation K-12 Program gives a lot of advantages. The Senior High

School students proves that the K-12 is important because it help us for the course

that we will take on college. The program aims to uplift the quality of education in the

Philippines in order for graduates to be easily employed. The graduates will become

highly employable, reducing the rate of unemployment in the Philippines. The K-12

Basic Education Program not only to produce better graduates but also to improve

the quality of the country as whole. Senior High School needs to provide sufficient

time for mastery of concepts and skills. President Benigno Aquino III he approved

Republic Act (RA) 10533, signing into law the K-12 Program on May 15, 2013.

Statement of the Problem

Generally, the study aims to determine the effects of implementing K-12 Program to

the future career of Ballesteros National High School Students.

Specifically, it seeks to answers the following question:

1. In what manner K-12 Program helps in choosing a career?

2. In what manner K-12 Program enhances knowledge in abilities?

3. Is there significant relationship of K-12 Program to the students future career?

Significance of the Study

Learning is the aspect of development that connotes modification of behavior, skills

and knowledge that results from practice and experience which sought for better

education. The generalization of this present study would be a great contribution to

the vast knowledge in relation to students’ achievements. The result of this study will

benefit the following:

PARENTS. This study will voice out their concerns on the additional expenses

they would incur in educating their children.

SCHOOL AND TEACHERS. They will learn the possible lacking will have the

chance to improve it.

STUDENTS. The result of the study will help them in choosing the track they will

take.

Scope and Delimitation

This study aims to determine the Effects of Implementing K-12 Program to

students future career in Ballesteros National High School during the school year

2019-2020 among grade 11 students on Humanities and Social Sciences.

The researchers will conduct this study with the use of Survey Descriptive to

get the data needed. Therefore, Questionnaire prior to this descriptive design.

Definition of Terms

For clearer understanding of the terms used in this study, the following words

are defined operationally:

IMPLEMENTATION. It is a processes of brining a specific

intervention/program to use in day to day practice.

K-12 BASIC EDUCATION PRORAM. This is a scheme of Department of

Education which contains the additional one year for elementary and two years for

secondary.

PERCEPTION. It is a process of attaining awareness or understanding of the

environment by organizing and interpreting sensory information.

SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. It covers the last two years of K-12 Program and

includes grades 11 and 12. Senior School students will go through a core curriculum

and subjects under a track of their choice.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

Introduction

This chapter presents the research design, respondents of the study, data

gathering tool, data gathering procedure, and statistical tool used in the study.

Research Design

The main focus of the study is to identify the effects of implementing K-12

Education Program on Humanities and Social Sciences students. Descriptive and

correlational were used as research design.

This will enable the researchers to collect relevant data, work effectively and

have a deeper understanding to the effects of Implementing K-12 Education Program

to the Humanities and Social Sciences students.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study are 30 HUMSS Grade 11 students of

Ballesteros National High School.

Data Gathering Tool

The instrument used was researcher made questionnaire with scale to

measure the responses of the students of the formulated factors affect Academic

Performance of Humanities and Social Sciences students. The scale of the

questionnaire has 5 degrees of intensity with weights of 5 being the highest and 1

being the smallest rating. The researcher were personally distributed management

students of Ballesteros National High School, Ballesteros Cagayan.

Data Gathering Procedure

This study entails to the investigation the effects of implementing K-12

program on the Grade 11 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) Students of

Ballesteros National High School. The questionnaires were distributed to the Grade

11 Humanities and Social Sciences students’ respondents through briefing on the

objective of the study and direction in answering the questionnaire. Respondents will

be encouraged to answer the questions accurately as possible. Retrieval of the

questionnaires was done right after respondents have accomplished them. Results

were collected, tabulated, interpreted and finally it has been analyze.

Statistical Tool

The questionnaire under the study were treated by using descriptive and

correlational statistics. Frequency distribution and percentages measuring of data

about the respondents profile while the weighted mean determined the quality of the

students academic performance of HUMSS.
