(Transfer Goals) Performance Standard:

The learner performs an interactive human exhibit of Afro-Asian literary


characters.

(Meaning-Making Goals) Content Standard:

The learner demonstrates understanding of how Afro-Asian Literature and other


text types equip him/her with communication skills that lead to embracing diverse
cultural heritage.

Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. identify meaning of unfamiliar words found in the story;


b. distinguish the elements of the story by completing a graphic organizer; and
c. reflect on the story through an introspection.

Content of Output: Graphic Organizer presenting the elements of the short story read.

Daily Routines

Activity
1. The class will be grouped into three.
2. The class will be presented a vocabulary maze.
3. Each group will be making their way out of the maze by finding the meaning of the
vocabulary words.
4. Each vocabulary word will be used in a sentence and each group will have to choose
the letter that corresponds its meaning.

Analysis
Process Questions:
1. Describe Makato. What character traits does he possess?
2. What could be the reason why Makato left his place?
3. Through inferring what the character says, does and thinks, one can recognize the
traits of a literary character. Cite lines, actions and thoughts which show Makato’s traits.
4. What were those changes in Makato’s life after meeting the king? Enumerate.
5. Which of Makato’s traits are similar to yours?
6. How would you nurture and enhance your positive traits? In what ways?
7. What lessons in life does the author want to convey to you?

Abstraction
1. Be familiarized with vocabularies.
2. Answer comprehension questions.
3. Complete a graphic organizer.
4. Reflect on the life lessons depicted in the story.

Application

1. The students will be completing a graphic organizer showing the elements of the
story—character, setting, plot, conflict, theme and point of view.

In plotting the events in the story, the students will be following the guide questions
below:

a. What kind of life did he have at the beginning of the story? Describe.
b. What motivated him to leave his place?
c. How did the king recognize him? Cite the incident that showed it.
d. What did he do with the cowrie shell?
e. What was his reward from the king?

Closure
Introspecting: What lessons in life have you learned from Makato’s experiences?
Agreement:
Compose sentences describing the character traits of Makato using coordinate
conjunctions. Choose from the following topics:
