In October 2018, I participated in an internship engineering mechanical engineering
internship organized by UTS FEIT. In the team, we need 12 weeks to complete the
simulation project FEIT gave us. We need to strictly follow FEIT requirements to
complete the project, simulate each participant as an engineer, work as a team to
complete a 12-week project, learn the knowledge needed for the project, discuss, find
solutions, and achieve customer satisfaction. the result of. Finally, the plan was
developed and specific implementation details were developed. There are collective
summary reports every week. We need to give the leader a satisfactory result during
this period and learn how to design the air conditioning system.

In the first week, we were assigned to different groups through different majors, and we
worked together to complete the tasks, increasing the team's tacit understanding and
familiarity. In the following weeks, we started the simulation project planning according
to the tasks assigned by FEIT. The task we assigned was to update the heating
ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) project in building 1, because the building 1
ventilation system is the longest and longest-running system in all UTS buildings. In the
implementation process, we need to learn what the ventilation system is and how the
system works. The FEIT organization met with the building 1 administrator and visited
the building 1 equipment layer. We learned all the parts of this HVAC project including
the chilled water pumps, condensate water pumps, power requirements.

Australia's sustainability is one of the most important behaviors of an engineer's ethical

standards. We need to strictly abide by the ethical standards of construction work.
Sustainable development is not only to protect the ecological balance, but more
importantly to maintain social relations. In Australia, engineers who violate the
principles of sustainable development will be severely punished, and during the
internship, FEIT has always emphasized sustainability issues. The following examples will
explain the sustainability-related events that HVAC faces. I think that in our internship
process, understanding of sustainable development is important, because in the future,
into the real working environment, everyone will regard sustainable development as the
most basic knowledge reserve. Working in every country requires compliance with
national requirements. In Australia, sustainable development is a national requirement,
and every company's website can find its own views and concepts of sustainable
development. I also really understand that sustainable development is not only for the
cost of the company, but also for the sustainability of future life and the consideration
of the sustainability of resources. Because every company needs to make efforts for
future development.

There are also sustainability issues in HVAC. In a building, you need to understand the
principles of air flow and environmental factors. In the process of designing the
ventilation system, terrain factors, ground roughness and accessory building structures,
such as average wind speed and wind direction, need to be considered, and the
pressure around the building needs to be analyzed to assess the ability of natural
ventilation. In order to achieve sustainability as much as possible, the energy recovery
ventilation system can help to better solve the sustainable development problem. In
winter, heat can be transferred from the exhaust air to the air. In the summer, the heat
and cooling demand can be reduced. Power consumption. For example, we use a lot of
advanced equipment in UTS building 11 to achieve sustainable development. When
indoor sensors can not sense human activities, they will automatically adjust the degree
of ventilation to reduce energy consumption. In the roof of building 11, a multi-solar
structure is adopted. Reduce energy consumption. Knowing about the HVAC system in
all buildings of UTS, not every building has a separate ventilation system, such as pump,
but several buildings use a system to meet the needs of the HVAC system, which is also
guaranteed. Continue to develop and use energy together to reduce waste.

During the 12-week internship, I thoroughly understood the school's HVAC structure
and learned about the importance of sustainable development to society. In order to
achieve sustainable development, more equipment is needed to help. Sensors and
advanced equipment are important factors in achieving sustainable development.
When I planned the project again, I understood that material selection was not just
about viewing costs and quality, but also about whether to achieve sustainable
development. This will be the only way I can grow into a qualified mechanical engineer.
If you only care about cost and quality, then it is not a good engineer performance, as
sustainability will affect future uncalculated costs and repairs. This is also the biggest
gain I got through my internship. If I can work in Australia in the future, I think this
internship will be very helpful for my future work, because I can familiarize myself with
the different cultural backgrounds and members of different nationalities and how to
work together, and also understand the deeper layers of sustainable development.

During the internship during the summer vacation, I met a very good partner. They
come from different countries and have different cultural backgrounds. They need to
pay more attention to respect and cooperation in the team. Every engineer needs to
keep in mind the ethical principles, because it is very important to respect each other in
the course of their work. Different countries and regions have different religious beliefs
and some customs. There are many places in our work that we need to work together.
We need to socialize every day, so how to avoid unintentional harm to the other side is
also what I need to learn. Avoiding some cultural conflicts is very helpful for
collaborative collaboration in a multicultural environment. I think the biggest gain from
this internship is the first exposure to a diverse workplace. This is also a very common
working environment in Australia. Because Australia is a diverse country and an
immigrant country, I need to be in an internship. Learn how to avoid cultural conflicts.

In our group, there is a partner from Nepal who is very good, has strong independence
and enthusiasm for work, but very embarrassed, almost never communicates with
others, I try to communicate with him and learn about him. His father worked in
Singapore and he also worked in Singapore together, then went to Sydney to study,
and every time he took a lunch break, he would only buy very cheap food for lunch. I
accidentally found it and bought it almost every day. Give him some lunch. In a group
dinner, FEIT staff also specially packaged some unfinished food for him to take home.
Almost every member of our team will use it, or will not let Nepalese students feel
uncomfortable ways to help him. Although he is very embarrassed and not good at
communication, we are full of enthusiasm to try to communicate with him. Let him feel
that he is in a friendly team. This is also the first time I have thought about how to take
care of others' ideas and how to help each other because of different cultures and
different origins. This is my biggest achievement in the internship of FEIT.

I really like this team. Working in such an environment makes me more motivated and
does not cause any unfair treatment of any national background or personal
background. My understanding of mutual help and respect between partners and
partners is a code of ethics. In the work environment, cultural diversity is one of the best
ways to promote the company's development, because different cultures can bring
different perspectives to solve problems, which makes the company have more stereo
solutions. Multiculturalism can also develop broader thinking when companies face
important choices. People from every country background have the advantage of their
own country and can play their own country's advantages in the team. This is very
important for a good team because we can think about the problem from different
angles.

On the other hand, cultural diversity is more helpful to national cooperation. Suppose
the employees in the company come from all over the world. When discussing overseas
projects, employees from the partner countries can serve as a bridge and even provide
information on the development of their country. To make the company more
competitive, it will be full of unnecessary time and energy spent on useless things.
Cultural diversity can also help to reduce racial discrimination, because the root cause
of racial discrimination is often a solid impression of people of other races. These solid
impressions are imposed on others by themselves, but they can be effective through
their own contact with them. Improve this incorrect idea.

In the previous internship experience, I never realized the help of multiculturalism

because I worked with some partners who have the same life experience as me. I can't
understand how far the culture is, but I am intern at FEIT. I may have a new
understanding and complete the task with far-reaching influence. The days are full of
new challenges. Whether I’m talking to a partner or a STEP task, I like these challenges
and they make my progress faster. After working with them, I also have a personal
understanding of the cultures of different countries, not just rumors, accepting these
solid impressions. I think that in my future work, these valuable experiences will help me
move forward. Internship is very important for the student period, because after
entering the society, I can better integrate into society, find my own value and in
society. Character. And during my internship at Optik, I understood the basics of
working in Australia, such as the importance of sustainability, respect for culture and
ways of working with me. I have never used a platform for teamwork. This time I
understood how to arrange the work reasonably.
