ABSTRACT

THINGKING PROCESS OF JUNIOR HIGH SCOOL STUDENT IN SOLVING THE


PROBLEMS ABOUT STRAIGHT LINE EQUATION BASED ON SEX
DIFFERENCES

Thinking process is measures undertaken involving a person with mental activity to get
a conclusion in sholving problems. Thingking process in this research grouped into two types
of predicative thought processes and thought processes of functional types . The thought
process is the type of predicative thought processes tend to look at the relationship between
two or more concepts in decision making. while the thought processes of functional type is the
thought process that focuses on the chain saw and how, to implement the decision . this study
aimed to describe the thinking of students in solving equations straight line.

this is a descriptive qualitative research in class IX-A SMPN 1 Kauman on scool year
2016/2017.Subject consisted of one female and male with the thought processes of predicative
type and one female and male with the thought processes of functional type.the research
instruments consisted of the test straight line equation and guide the interview.

the results of this research showed that in solving straight line equation, female's and
male's subject predicative able to see the relationship between the concept of straight line
equation with the material concepts that have been studied previously . whereas , female's and
male's subject functional are more focused on the existing formulas without associating it with
other materials that have been studied previously , Female's and male's subject functional want
an immediate answer to the final. female subjects predicative work on the problems straight
line equation by using the relationship as well as point by point to the line. Male subjects
functional use a different way to those taught by the teacher. Female's and male's subject
predicative solve problems to the simplest answer, while female subjects yet functional solve
problems in the simplest form. Female's and male's subject predicative illustrates that there is
in question, while male subjects functional work on the problems without illustrating exist in
matter.

Thinking process is steps that everyone did which involve mental activity to get a
conclusion when they solve problems. In this research, thinking process is grouped into two
types, that is predicative thinking process and functional thinking process. Predicative thinking
process is thinking process that more give attention to the relation between two concepts or
more about taking a decision. While functional thinking process is thinking process which
focus to see how to make and how to excute the decision. The purpose of this research is to
describe the student’s thinking process while solving line equational question.

This research is a descriptive qualitative reseach at IX-A in SMPN 1 Kauman on


2016/2017. The research’s subjects comprised of a female student and a male student with
predicative thinking process type and a female student and a male student with functional
thinking process type. The research’s instruments are comprised of line equational test and the
interview orientation.

The research’s result shows that a female and a male subjects with predicative thinking
process see the relation between line equation concept and other material concepts that they
have already learned while solve the question. In the other side, a female and a male subjects
with functional thinking process give more attention to the formula without see the relation
between line equation concept and other material concepts that they have already learned. A
female and a male subjects with predicative thinking process use detail steps, while a female
and a male subjects with functional thinking process want to know the final result. A female
subject with predicative thinking process use the relation between two dots and the relation
between dot and line to solve the equational line question. A male subject with functional
thinking process use a method which different with the teacher’s method. A female and a male
subjects with predicative thinking process solve the question with the simplest answer, while a
female and a male subjects with functional thinking process solve it with no simplest answer
yet. A female and a male subjects with predicative thinking process make the illustration of the
question, while a male subject with functional thinking process solve it without illustrating the
question.
