Q1. A. Two cylinders A and B of diameters 8 c m and 12 cm respectively are held in equilibrium by
separate strings as shown in fig.1. Cylinder B rests against vertical wall. If weights of cylinder A and B
are 20 N and 40 N respectively, determine tension in strings and reactions at all points of contacts. [6]

Q1. B. A beam ‘ABCD’ having self weights 2 KN/m is subjected to additional load as shown in fig.2.
Find the support reaction at ‘B’ and ‘C’. [6]

Q1. C. A rectangular plate is supported by three cables at A as shown in fig.3. Knowing that the tension
in cable AD is 120 N, determine the weight of the plate. [6]

Q2. A. The uniform 18 kg bar OA is held in position as shown in fig.4 by the smooth pin at O and the
cable AB. Determine the tension in the cable and the reaction at O. [6]

Q2. B. Determine the support reaction for the beam loaded and supported as shown in (fig.5). 50 KN
force is inclined at 30º to horizontal. [6]

Q3. A. A cable is hinged at A and E as shown in fig.7. Compute the components of reaction at supports
and maximum tension in cable, naming the cable segment in which the maximum tension occurs. [6]

Q3. B. Determine the forces in each member of the plate truss as shown in fig. 8 in terms of the external
loading and state if the members are in tension or compression. Use θ = 30º, L = 2m and P = 100 N. [6]

Q3. C. Determine the horizontal and vertical components of reaction at pin B and C for the frame shown
in fig. 9. [6]

Q4. A. A truss is loaded and supported as shown in fig. 10. If the force in the member CE is 30 KN
tensile, then determine ‘W’. Hence obtain the force in the member AC. [6]

Q4. B. Determine the magnitude of pin reactions at A, B, and D for the frame as shown in fig.11. [6]

Q4. C. A cable supported at A and D at the same level over a span of 30 m is loaded as shown in fig.12.
Determine the maximum tension in the segment of the cable. [6]

Q5. A. The tennis player serves the ball from height ‘H’ with an initial velocity of 40 m/sec at an angle
of 4º with the horizontal as shown in fig.13. Knowing that the ball clears the 0.914 m net height by 152
mm, determine: (a) the height ‘H’ (b) the distance from the net ‘d’ where the ball strike the floor. [6]

Q5. B. Water drips from a tap at the rate 5 drops per second. Determine vertical separation between two
consecutive drops when lower drop of the two has attained velocity of 3 m/sec. [6]

Q5. C. A particle position is describe by the co-ordinates r = (2 sin 2θ) m and θ = (4t) rad, where‘t’ is in
seconds. Determine the radial and transverse components of its velocity and acceleration when t = 1sec.

Q6. A. A particle starts with an initial velocity of 2.5 m/sec and uniformly accelerates at the rate of 0.5
m/sec2. Determine the displacement on 2 sec, time required to attain the velocity of 7.5 m/sec and the
distance travelled when it attain a velocity of 7.5 m/sec. [6]
Q6. B. A particle moves along a straight line with an acceleration a = (4t 2 – 2), where ‘a’ is in m/sec2
and ‘t’ is in sec. When t = 0, the particle is at 2m to the left of origin and when t = 2 sec the particle is at
20m to left of origin. Determine the position of particle at t = 4 sec. [6]

Q6. C. Position vector of a particle is given as 𝑟̅ = 2t2 𝑖̂ + 10t 𝑗̂ (m). Calculate normal and tangential
components of acceleration and radius of curvature at t = 3 sec. [5]

Q7. A. Block A has a weight of 300N and block B has a weight of 50N. Determine the speed of block A
after it moves 1.5m down the plane, starting from rest by work energy principle. Neglect the friction and
mass of the pulleys. Refer fig. 14. [6]

Q7. C. For what values of angle θ will the acceleration of the 3 kg block be 6 m/sec 2 to the right when
subjected to a 30 N as shown in fig.15. Take μs = 0.6 and μk = 0.5 between the block and the floor. [6]

Q7. C. Determine the velocities of the two balls as shown in fig. 16 after impact. Take weight of ball A
is 20 N, weight of ball B is 10 N and coefficient of restitution is 0.6 [5]

Q8. A. A 900 kg car travelling at 48 km/hr couples to a 680 kg car travelling at 24 km/hr in the same
direction. Determine their common velocity after coupling. What is the amount of energy lost? [6]

Q8. B. A 60 kg ball B is attached to a 15 m long steel cable ABV and swings in a vertical arc as shown
in fig.17. Determine the tension in the cable. (a) at the top C of the swing (b) at the bottom D of the
swing where the speed of the ball is 4.2 m/sec. [6]

Q8. C. Determine the work done by all forces acting on the block of 18 kg as shown in fig.18 as it
moves 12 m upwards along the plane. Take coefficient of kinetic friction as 0.2. [5]
