Perth Zoo has discovered a new
animal! This animal just so happens to
be the animal that you created in our
previous science lesson. Perth Zoo
has decided that they would like to
revels this new animal to the public,
but they need to build a new
enclosure first.
In groups of three, you are to select
one creature and generate three
designs of the habitat they will need
to survive. Select one design and
transform it into a diorama that does
not exceed the size of a shoebox.
Your designs must include
measurements of the size of objects
to be included in your diorama.
E.g. Tree - 9 cm tall and 2 cm wide
(leaves are 5 cm wide).
You must ensure that the habitat
matches the adaptations that your
creature has made. You may research
the environments that your animal’s
features are from.
When you complete your diorama, you
are to answer the following questions:
• Does your diorama exceed the size
of a shoebox?
• Do your measurements accurately fit
your diorama?
• Does your diorama match the
adaptations that your animal has
made?
Perth Zoo needs your help to design
new habitat for their new creature.
You are to create a diorama in a
shoebox that shows the environment
that your animal needs to survive. You
will need to generate three designs
that could possibly be your diorama.
This project will take place over 5 one
hour lessons.

Once you have finished your diorama
and evaluation, you will present it to
the class. You are to introduce your
animal and reveal the adaptations it
has made. You are to display your
diorama to the class and explain the
parts of the habitat that match your
animal’s adaptations.
