MAT - TEST PATTERN

All India Management Association (AIMA) has been providing the service of aptitude testing since 1988
under the scheme of All India Management Aptitude Testing Service (AIMATS). Several lakhs of candidates
and over 300 institutions have derived benefit under this testing facility. This, as such, is the testimony as to
the validity, reliability and usability of aptitude testing of AIMA.
Management Aptitude Test (MAT) is usually conducted four times in a year in January, May, September and
December.
The minimum qualification for appearing in MAT is graduation in any discipline from any recognised
University or equivalent. A final year student in any undergraduate (i.e. B.A, B.Sc., B.Com., B.Tech., etc.)
can also apply. Usually, there is a minimum percentage requirement in graduation which is different for
different management institutes and universities. However, there is no restriction regarding percentages for
taking the MAT test, no age bar and no experience required.

MAT is an objective type test with multiple - choice answers with 200 questions to be completed in 150 minutes or two
and a half hours.
The test usually divided into five section, each with 40 questions, designed to measure a person's.

HOW TO APPLY FOR MAT EXAM
To obtain MAT Bulletin and Application Form by post, send a Demand Draft AIMA-CMS, drawn in favour of AIMA-
CMS payable at New Delhi alongwith two self-addressed slips/adhesive stickers. Send your request to Sr Dy Director,
All India Management Association, Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110 003. OR
Obtain MAT Bulletin and Application Form on cash payment also at AIMA counter at Delhi (Tel:- 24653382). Branches,
AIMA Nodal Centres and other outlets.
MAT Score is acceptable even to certain other Institutes for considering admission of candidates for Post Graduate
Degree / Diploma programmes, besides the above Institutes, subject to specific cut-off marks and other admission
parameters.

MAT - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS :
1. When & how many times MAT is conducted in a year?
Sol. Mat is usually conducted 4 times in a year in February, May, September and December.
2. How manyManagement Institutes participate in MAT. Do they keep on changing or remain the same? Is
there a same admission criterion for each & every Institute? Are they recognized, by AICTE? Do they have
hostel facility? What about the total fee?
Sol. The number of participating Management Institutes may vary. The number of MI's keeps on changing from test to
test. Admission criteria for every institute is different. All MIs participating in MAT are either AICTE approved or
affiliated to some Universities, for further information you may contact the MIs/Universities of your choice. The
list of various Management Institutes /Universities is available in MAT bulletin along with the admission
notification. It may be worthwhile to go through the brochure of the Management Institutes for detailed
information.
3. What is the cost of the Bulletin? The DD, which is to be made, should be in whose favor?
Sol. At Present the cost of a MAT bulletin is Rs.650/- by cash across the AIMA, New Delhi counter/ Select UTI Bank
branches/ AIMA Nodal Centres all over India and Rs.690/- against Demand Draft (DD) by post. DD should be
made in favor of AIMA-CMS, payable at New Delhi.
4. What is the validity of MAT score?
Sol. Validity of the MAT score is for that particular session for most Management Institutes, but for AIMA-CME's
PGDM & PGDITM programmes, the score is valid for one year.
5. What is the last date of submitting filled in MAT OMR Form?
Sol. Last date for submission is mentioned in the MAT bulletin. The last date also appears in the notification released by
AIMA in various national & regional newspapers.
6. Do applicant has to buy the prospectus of the MI's opted by him/her?
Sol. For applying to MI's it is suggested that the prospectus of the MI's opted should be bought.
7. Is MAT held all over the country what about a person living abroad? Can he/she apply for it?
Sol. MAT is conducted in all major cities in the country and in leading cities abroad. For further clarification, see MAT
bulletin or contact our information centre.
8. Do we get a separate Admit Card for appearing in MAT?
Sol. Candidate has to download his/her admit card from aima website 7 days before the Test Date with the registration
form number. No separate admit card is mailed to candidate.
9. Is there any age bar for it? Any Job experience required, to appear in MAT?
Sol. There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.
10. Is appearance in MAT necessary for getting admission into PGDM/ MBA programme ?
Sol. Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM / equivalent programmes offered by AIMA or other MIs who
participate in it.
11. What is the nature of MAT test?
Sol. It is an objective type test with multiple-choice answers.
12. Is there any age bar for it? Any Job experience required, to appear in MAT?
Sol. There is no age bar. Job experience is not necessary.
13. Is appearance in MAT necessary for getting admission into PGDM/ MBA programme ?
Sol. Yes, MAT is necessary for admission into PGDM/equivalent programmes offered by AIMA or other MIs who
participate in it.
WHAT TO EXPECT

There is no prescribed syllabus or format for most of the management entrance tests, but tackling them requires strong
Quantitative, Verbal, Logical Reasoning and Data Interpretation Skills. Some of them also have General Knowledge and
Current Awareness questions.

English Language : This has passages with questions based on their contents to test your Comprehension, Use of
Words, Phrases etc. Also tested would be knowledge of the rules of Grammar Vocabulary, Sentence Completion,
Synonyms, Antonyms, Analogies etc.

Quantitative Ability : This section has questions that assess how fast and accurate one can be while working with
numbers, understanding quantitative problems involving use knowledge of Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry,
Trigonometry, Set Theory etc. of the secondary school syllabus as also some topics usually covered in plus two including
Permutation and Combination, Progression, Probability etc.

Data Interpretation : This section helps to measure one's ability to interpret data given in the form of tables, common
graphs and charts.

Logical ability : Questions in this section measure how quickly and accurately one can think, analyse and reason from
figures, facts and situations given. There may be questions based on figures and diagrams as also questions on Verbal
Reasoning.

Indian and Global Environment : General Knowledge and current business and economic awareness is possible for
those who follow newspapers, magazines etc on a regular basis.

CHALLENGES

Accuracy with speed is the theme of maximising chances of making the cut off for Group Discussion and Interview.
Taking note of instructions, time frame and other guidelines so as not to miss any critical points that may detract from the
performance.

It is important to have good judgement of one's personal potential when it comes to selection of questions that are more
likely to be solved/answered accurately.
