1. A godparent decides to invest RM 20,000 at 8% per annum compound interest, to be divided between his
two godchildren so that each receives the same amount on their 18th birthday. Part of the sum was to be
invested on one godchild’s 12th birthday and part on the other godchild’s 14th birthday.
What sum would they each receive on their 18th birthday? ( answer to the nearest RM) [6 marks]
2. Your college newspaper, The Collegiate Investigator, has fixed production costs of RM 70 per edition,
and marginal printing and distribution costs of 40 sen/copy. The Collegiate Investigator sells for 50 sen/copy.
(a) Write down the associated cost, revenue, and profit functions. [4 marks]
(b) What profit (or loss) results from the sale of 500 copies of The Collegiate Investigator? [2 marks]
(c) How many copies should be sold in order to break even? [2 marks]
3. A dishwasher was purchased by Ulala Restaurant on July 27 for RM2600. The estimated useful life of the
dishwasher is 16 years and trade-in value is RM100.
(a) What is the amount of depreciation to the nearest cent at the end of third year? [6 marks]
(b) A convey with an estimated useful life of 20 years and a final book value of RM700 was purchased for
RM7000. Using the reducing balance depreciation method, find the book value at the end of the third year.

parts were unfit for use. The manufacturer normally made a profit of 33 1/3% on manufacturing costs by
selling all the parts produced for RM 8 each but, because of the damaged parts, the profit was reduced to
30% of the manufacturing costs.
(b) If the damaged parts were sold for scrap at RM 2 each what percentage of profit was made that week?
