 Say hello to your new Windows 10 computer

• Make sure you have internet access. Plug in your Ethernet cable if you
have one, as it is the fastest and most reliable connection. JOHN DOE

address—it is your IBM intranet ID. The ID and its associated john.doe@ibm.com

password give you access to IBM internal websites, IBM email, IBM
Sametime instant messaging, and all of our web- and cloud-based
systems.

• The steps in this document apply to both new hires and existing
IBMers. However, if you are a new hire, you will need to do a few
additional things to complete the setup process. New hires who have
completed the tasks outlined in this document should go to the new
hire final setup document to complete these additional tasks.

 Perform initial
setup (30-40 mins)
Turn on your PC and follow the setup
instructions. Be sure to keep your
computer plugged in during setup.

 Step 1
On the “Welcome” screen, select your
language and set up your keyboard.
Note: If you connected to the internet
using an Ethernet cable, skip to step 3.

 • From an IBM work site: Select “IBMInternet.” When prompted to authenticate within a web
browser window, enter the appropriate credentials. Note: Do not attempt to connect to
“IBM” because that will cause an error.

From a remote worksite, such as your home: Enter your wireless network password when

• Select “Connect”.

From an IBM work site: Select • Your computer will check for software updates and take you to the next step.

Step 3
You should see a screen that says either
“Welcome to IBM!” or “Sign in with
Microsoft.” Enter your w3id in the field
provided and select “Next.” Then, enter
your w3id and password. Note: Do not
leave your computer until you’ve
defined a new PIN in steps 4 and 5
below.

Warning: If your screen displays the message, “Who’s going to use this PC?” your
computer did not properly connect to the network. To resolve this issue, complete the
following:
• Change your internet connection. For example, if you connected wirelessly, change
to a wired Ethernet and repeat step 2.
- If the “…use an online account” link in the lower left-hand corner is selectable, select it, make sure you are
connected to the internet, and try the process again.
- If the “…use online account” link in the lower left-hand corner is not selectable, force a shutdown of your
PC by holding down the power button for 10 seconds and then begin the setup process again.

Set up the fingerprint sensor or
facial recognition. Note: Do not skip
this step because it gives you
another method of authentication.
It is also the fastest way to log in to
Windows.

Step 5
On the “Set up a PIN” screen, enter
and confirm your PIN. Your PIN is
stored on your PC and never expires.
Make sure to choose something you'll
remember, because your PIN
replaces your password. If you can't
sign in with your fingerprint, 3D
camera, or PIN, your PC will become
permanently locked and you'll need
to reinstall Windows.

If you’re not in an IBM office, you will
need to use Cisco AnyConnect to create
a secure network connection into IBM.
Complete the following steps to set up
and use Cisco AnyConnect.

At each prompt in the Certificate
Import Wizard, choose “Current
user,” use the default install
location, and enter the one-time
password you created in step 3. On
the Certificate Store window, select
“Next.” Make sure “Automatically
select the certificate store based on
the type of certificate” is highlighted
and then select “Next” and “Finish.”

Those who are at an IBM location
should connect to the IBM network.
Those who are remote, launch Cisco
AnyConnect and select your
geography. You should now be
connected to the IBM network.
You must remain connected to
Cisco AnyConnect to perform all IBM-
specific tasks, such as accessing
internal w3 web pages and IBM
applications.

To connect to the IBM Wireless
Network, complete the following steps.
If you’re not in an IBM office and need
to connect to IBM, reference the “Get
VPN Certificate” process above.

Select the Wi-Fi icon in the lower-
right corner of the task bar to open
“Network & Internet Settings.”

From the list of available networks,
select “IBM,” and then select
“Connect.”

Instead of using a username and
password, select “Connect using a
certificate.” From the dropdown,
choose the certificate that matches
your employee serial number, then
select “Connect.”

Verse is IBM’s cloud-based web email.
There are other email options available,
but for now we’ll focus on Verse. Using
the default web browser Edge, go to
Verse and log in with your IBM w3id
and password to read your email.

 1. From your system tray in the lower, right corner of your computer, select the IBM
Standard Asset Manager icon (the flashing yellow and black computer icon).

1. In the lower left corner, click the

Start button.

If you are an existing IBMer, congratulations, your setup is

complete!

If you are a new hire, you’ve got just a few steps remaining.
New hires should access the new hire quick start page for
the remainder of your setup. On the quick start page, you will
find all the essential applications and tools IBMers need to
collaborate and be productive, such as printing and setting up
your mobile device to receive work emails and calendars.
