ADVOCACY STRATEGY IN ARALING PANLIPUNAN

BACKGROUND

“We study the past to understand the present; we understand the present to guide the future.”
— William Lund. History allows us to understand the present through the past, as it places our
struggles and problems into a wider historical context.

Through the years, the Department of Education commits itself to give quality education to
the Filipino youth. It ensures that no single child is left behind by finding different measures to help
every learner reach his full potential. This is made possible by implementing different programs that
mobilize improvement for the benefit of the learners as well as the whole community which include
the parents, local officials, and non-government organizations.

The K-12 Araling Panlipunan made use of the objective of the “Education for All 2015” and K
-12 Philippine Basic Curriculum framework as its guideline in the curriculum. The curriculum aims
to have competencies necessary for 21st century so that they will be able to produce a “functionally
literate and developed Filipino”. To be able for the goals to be achieved, the K-12 curriculum of
Araling Panlipunan intend to mould an individual that is “mamamayang mapanuri (analytical),
mapagmuni (creative), mapanagunatan (responsible), produktibo (productive), makakalikasan
(cares for environment), makabansa (nationalistic) at makatao (cares for humanity) na may
pambansa at pandaigdigang pananaw (has national and global awareness) at pagpapahalaga sa mga
usaping pangkasaysayan at panlipunan (appreciation for current and social issues).

Effective teaching of History as stated by Boadu (2015), is a prime area of concern for most
History teacher-educators. This is because most History teachers do not adopt appropriate methods
in teaching the subject. Effective History teachers demonstrate mastery over content, show
enthusiasm, relate lessons to students’ prior knowledge, use multiple instructional methods and
resources in conveying content, create a supportive learning environment, and use alternative
assessment techniques. The Araling Panlipunan K-12 Curriculum frame work as integrated study of
the social sciences to promote civic competence.
Batitang National High School introduced “School Supplies mo Sagot ko”, which primarily
reflected by our hospitality culture - is a way of sharing yourself or your blessing with other people.

Another advocacy by the Araling Panlipunan Department is the restoration of the museum
that must become agents of change and development: they must mirror events in society and become
instruments of progress by calling attention to actions and events that will encourage development
in the society.

AIM
“School Supplies mo Sagot ko” aims to encourage the parent involvement in school activities, a
reward system as introduced where parents who often participate in school activities and
programs will receive a school supply for their children.
The restoration of the Museum aims to develop the educational process by exposing children and
indeed the public to their history in a positive way.

OBJECTIVES
To help students who is financially unstable.
To provide student its nature of inspiration and personal growth.
To strengthen stakeholders’ participation to build strong partnership with them.

TARGETS
Students, Parents and Community

ALLIES/PARTNERS
There is no other success to make this happen without the help and support of our School
Administrators, faculty & staff and stakeholders who will give contribution to this advocacy.

ACTIVITIES/OUTPUTS
Parents play a huge role in a child’s learning. In this activity, the students together with their
parents received the school supplies before the opening of the classes. They are most likely the
member of the 4 P’s. It inspired and engaged students like never before. Parental gratitude is shown
and they are actively engaged in other school activities.
Restoration of museum rendering teaching and learning more entertaining, imaginative and
effective; and acting as a resource to aid interaction, negotiation and communication.

KEY MESSAGE
Students, we want you to become globally competitive cladded with core values of being
Maka-Diyos, Maka-tao, Maka-bansa at Makaka-likasan through the efforts of their competent and
dedicated mentors who are fully gown professionally, and bound with harmonious relationship.

Our stakeholders, we want to strengthen the linkage between the internal and external
stakeholders and make you feel that you are the potent partners of the school for any endeavour
relative to realization of its goal.
To our parents and constituents, we want you to participate or involve in our programs and
activities. We would like to make you aware that not only the stakeholders must involve in the school
programs and activities but in the same way, the school comprising of administrators, staff, teachers
and students, if needs arise, must involve likewise in the programs and activities of the community
to practice and observe the real spirit and essence of collaboration.

TIMELINE
The advocacy strategies proposed for year-round.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Many challenges are haunting the educational system like lack of resources but it is not a
reason of not giving quality education to the Filipino youth. Therefore, the School Administrators,
faculty and staff will always make the first step to pursue this advocacy by identifying potential
donors and its recipients, and anyone who can help to make this advocacy more successful.

BUDGET
Our resources is limited, so the more we engage and involve stakeholders from the start, the
more likely we will have a positive outcome of our projects.
