HOW TO RELEASE STRESS

Imagine your heart pumping, your palms sweating. You can’t eat, you can’t sleep. You
constantly feel unhappy and you have a thousand and one worries on your mind.

Ladies and gentlemen,

What are you experiencing? I’m no doctor but, I’m quite sure that you are stress.

A very good morning to the honourable judges, teachers and my fellow friends. I am
standing here today to deliver a speech entitled “How to release stress”. I know that all of us
have experienced stress before. But, do you know how to release stress?

First of all, what is stress? Stress is the tension your mind and body face, which is the
effect of continuous hard and extreme work. Negative outcome will occur if our mind and
body continue to be subjected to stress. For example, we will be sick, whether physically or
mentally. Although stress makes us sick, fear not! There are several ways to overcome stress.
Among the ways are reading, going outdoors, listening to music, exercising and also
laughing.

First and foremost, reading is a simple yet amazing way to release stress. Do you
know why? This is because reading books, magazine or newspapers gradually will enable
you to forget the stress as you are absorbed in reading. Reading exciting and thrilling novels
will also take your mind off the stress. Some novels we can read are Percy Jackson, The
Maze Runner Files, The Hunger Game and my personal favourite Harry Potter. Reading
transports you to a different world full of magic, wonderful things and exciting possibilities.
Although it is undeniable that reading usually takes a long time, if you enjoy the book, before
you know it, a lot of time has passed and Voila! You have finished reading and all the tension
in your body have disappeared! Isn’t that an amazing thing?

Secondly, going outdoors is also an effective way to release stress. You can go out
with your friends or family to have a picnic at the beach, waterfall or even a water park. Can
you imagine sitting under a coconut tree, savouring delicious sandwiches while enjoying the
gentle and cool sea breeze? At that moment would you still feel stressed? I don’t think so.
Having fun and enjoying yourself to the fullest will help release stress and you will be
rejuvenated.

Thirdly, exercising is a healthy way to release stress. Unfortunately, many people do


not exercise. Do you? Well, if you don’t, it’s time to begin. There are many types of exercises

such as Yoga, Gymnastics, Taekwando and more. I like to do yoga. It is because Yoga is a
relaxing exercise. It is also fun. For example, you can do the mountain or butterfly pose.
Apart from yoga, playing badminton with your family and friends can also help you to
release stress. Therefore, you can get on your feet again to continue pursuing your dream and
nothing will ever stop you.

Next, listening to music.

Lastly, laughter is always the best medicine for you. Though it sounds simple,
laughing can really help you to release stress. This is because when you laugh, you will be
distracted from thinking about your stress and your mood will be enlightened. As your mood
has become better, it will make you see your stress in a new light. Thus, you will feel more
optimistic to find the key to solve your problem. So, have you laughed today? If you haven’t.
Don’t worry. There are many ways to get a good laugh. For example, you can watch funny
videos on YouTube or talking with someone who makes you smile.

So ladies and gentlemen,

If you follow my tips to release stress, I am sure we cannot stress again. Remember,
when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Look after our health because health is
wealth. So, don’t let stress have the upper hand. You control it.
