NusaBali reports that Anak Agung
Ngurah Alit Wiraputra (52), the former
chairman of the Bali Chapter of the
Chamber of Commerce (KADIN), was
sentenced to 2 years imprisonment on
Thursday, August 15, 2019.
The prison sentence was handed
down in the Denpasar District Court
for Wiraputra's involvement in fraud
surrounding securing government
permits and licenses in connection
with the development of the Port of
Benoa in South Denpasar.
Following the verdict, Wiraputra
called on the Court to also bring to trial
Putu Pasek Sandos Prawirottama
and his associates for their
involvement in the fraud. Sandos is
the son of former Bali Governor Made
Mangku Pastika. During the course of
the trial, testimony was offered
alleging Sandoz was paid Rp. 16
billion to facilitate the licensing and
permit process for the Port.
In rendering the verdict against
Wiraputra the presiding judge cited
Wiraputra's failure to try to return
funds to Sutrisno Lukito Disastro.
The sentence given to the former
KADIN-Bali official was far less than
the 3.5 years of prison sought by State
Prosecutors.
Wiraputra complained of the failure of
the Prosecutor and the Court to
compel all those involved in the case
to testify during the trial. “There's the

Wiraputra also commented after the
trial that he was surprised that others
who also received payments were
untouched by the trial process.
Adding: “Earlier, in the Court's
decision, it was stated that I received
Rp. 16 billion. It was also stated that
the funds held by mean were only Rp.
2.1 billion. So, where's the remaining
Rp. 14 billion? This has to be
revealed.”
Continuing, Wiraputra, referring to
Putu Pasek Sandos who is the son of
Bali's former Governor Made Mangku
Pastika, said: “Those who received
these funds must be processed in
accordance with the law. I hope the
police will process my report.”

The case originated in 2011 when
Sutrisno Lukito Disastro and his
associate Abdul Satar came to Bali to
invest in a new cruise ship passenger
pier as part of the development of the
Port of Benoa. Sutrisno reportedly
asked Candra Wijaya to find someone
capable of securing the needed
permits for the project.
Candra Wijaya contacted Made
Jayantara who, in turn, contacted Alit
Wiraputra who was serving at that
time as the vice-chairman of KADIN-
Bali. Alit Wiraputra reportedly agreed
to facilitate Sutrisno's desire to have a
meeting with the then-Governor of
Bali, Made Mangku Pastika.
A meeting was held on November 23,
2011, at the Association of Young
Entrepreneurs Office (HIPMI) in
Sanur attended by Made Jayatara,
Candra Wijaya, Alit Wiraputra, and
Putu Pasek Sandos. The purpose of
that meeting was to map a strategy to
obtain the permits needed for the
proposed passenger ship pier. At the
meeting, Alit Wiraputra presented
himself as the “adopted son” of
Governor Pastika. As a result,
Sutrisno became convinced that a
meeting with the Governor would

until August 1, 2012, surrendered
payments of Rp. 16.1 billion to
Wiraputra.
Alit Wiraputra was arrested by the Bali

explained that the new technology will enable faster
and more accurate immigration services for
travelers, as reported by state news agency Antara.
“If you use the autogate system, the immigration
process won't take more than a minute. If
passengers can start using the facility, it will reduce
the workload on immigration officials … especially if
there happens to be a long queue,” Ronny said.
The new system is expected to gradually replace the
manual checks and verifications of passports done
by immigration officials.

as it continues a wider
restructure.
The beverages bottler said the move
will further simplify its manufacturing
and sales model following June's sale
of food processing business SPC, with
its New Zealand and Fiji business segment also set to absorb
NZ-based coffee and alcohol, Fiji's Paradise Beverages, and
the international alcohol sales team.
The coffee portfolio in Indonesia will now be part of the
Indonesian business.
Coca-Cola Amatil's alcohol and coffee managing director
Shane Richardson will leave the company following the
shuffle.
Group managing director Alison Watkins last month named
the alcohol and coffee segments a bright spot in the

Chinese Arrivals to Bali Down 11.44%
US - China Trade War Has
Negative Impact on Travel to
Bali
BISNIS reports that the continuing trade
war between the USA and China is
triggering a downturn in Chinese tourist
arrivals to Indonesia.
Based on data from the Central Agency
for Statistics (BPS), the number of
Chinese tourist arrivals to Indonesia for
the period January-July 2019 totaled
1.24 million, declining 2.31% when
compared to the same period in 2018
when 1.27 million Chinese visited
Indonesia.
Titi Kanti Lestari, director of Finance,
Information Technology and Tourism at
BPS cited two possible explanations for
the downturn in Chinese tourism.
According to the statistician, the
downturn may be due to a weakening

economy fueled by the USA-China trade
war or the diversion of Chinese tourists
to new destinations.
“It can also be that our market share (of
Chinese tourists) has declined,” Lestari
told BISNIS on Friday, September 6,
2019.
According to the head of the Public
Relations for the Ministry of Tourism,
Guntur Sakti, the ongoing USA-China
trade war is affecting all global business
sectors, including tourism. He said
Chinese arrivals to other member
countries belonging to ASEAN have
also declined.
On a cumulative basis, Sakti said,
arrivals to Thailand for January-July
2019 arrivals increased a very slim
1.92%. This was also the case in
Singapore where arrivals grew only by
1.35%. Vietnamese tourism, however,
continued to show strong growth
increasing 7.9% for the same period.
Sakti concluded: “Arrivals are
weakening everywhere, what's more in
Indonesia where Chinese tourists were
the largest inbound market. The trade
war is having an effect on outbound
Chinese tourism.”

China and Indonesia have had a strong
impact on Chinese tourist arrivals to
Bali. For the highlighted period of
January-July 2019 Chinese tourist
arrivals to Bali totaled 730,969 – a
decline of 11.44% for the same period
one year before when 824,378 Chinese
traveled to Bali.
Meanwhile, Bloomberg News, citing a
McKinsey report, predicts the decline in
Chinese visitors will continue through
2020 if the US-China trade war
continues unabated.
This is happening at a time in which
China's middle-class purchasing power
has increased to the point that China
now represents the world's biggest
outbound travel market.

Racial abuse doesn't belong in the dream teen NRL
star Ronaldo Mulitalo deserves to be living
On Sunday, Ronaldo
Mulitalo was
celebrating helping
Cronulla secure a
finals spot with a
dramatic win over the
Wests Tigers.
Mulitalo is living the
dream having only just
turned 19 and he is
enjoying a breakout year
for the Sharks.
He has scored five tries in just
eight games and has recently
been rewarded with a new deal at
the club.
The winger posted a photo with
Benji Marshall on his Instagram
account later that day, explaining
how as a young Kiwi he was
honoured to have shared the field
with a player he idolised growing
up.
On Monday, he was subjected to
racist abuse on social media.
Mulitalo is of Samoan background,
born in Auckland and raised in
Queensland.
A user called James.Burton69
direct messaged him on Instagram
and called him a “filthy black mutt”
and said “hope you snap your
neck”.
Mulitalo shared the image on his
own account.
For reference, Mulitalo rocked
Luke Brooks with a tackle that has
subsequently seen him charged
by the match review committee.
The tackle didn't swing the game
— perhaps it was a little over the
top — but never should it warrant
such an outpouring of abuse.

commenced a new flight service
connecting Denpasar (Bali) and
Banyuwangi on Friday, August 9,
2019.
The Regent of Banyuwangi,
Abdullah Azwar Anas, speaking at the
inaugural flight said: “The
development of this route will lure
tourists to Banyuwangi. The more air
gateways to Banyuwangi will provide
more ease of access to the
destination.”
As quoted by the State News Agency
Antara, Anas said that Bali remains
the main tourist gateway to Indonesia,
with between 5 and 6 million foreign
tourist traveling to Bali each year.
Continuing, Anas said: “If Banyuwangi
nets only 5% of the total number of
foreign tourists to Bali, we would
receive 250,000 international tourists.
In 2018, the number of foreign tourists
visiting Banyuwangi totaled 127,000

traveled through the airport surging
to 366,164 in 2018. That's an
increase of 4,578% in only 8 years.
During the same eight-year period,
domestic tourist visitors to
Banyuwangi increased from
500,000 in 2010 to 5.3 million in
2018 – an increase of 960%.
Meanwhile, foreign tourist visitors
jumped from around 7,000 visitors
in 2010 to 127,420 in 2018 -
increasing 1,720%.
The District Sales Manager for Citilink
in Denpasar, Raden Cahyo Katon,
said his airline takes pride in being
allowed to participate in the
development of tourism in
Banyuwangi. Katon explained that the
Denpasar-Banyuwangi route will be
served with an Airbus A-320 aircraft
configured to carry 180 passengers.
The daily service will depart
Banyuwangi at 8:00 am local time,
landing in Bali 40 minutes later at 9:40
am local time. The return leg leaves
Bali at 10:05 am local time.
