8th International Mechanical Engineering Research Conference

Reaction Paper
Pulsatile Flow in a 180-deg Curved tube

The speaker was Le Minh Duc from the National Taiwan University of Science and
Technology, Taiwan. His presentation is about the 180-degree curve tube and the pulsatile flow.
They focus on the aorta part; making an artificial aorta tube with a certain material is to be made.
I really can’t seem fathom about the research because in my field of studies it can’t seem to relate
to it.

Community Security by Widely Available Information Technology

The speaker was Dr. Yusaku Fujii from Science and Technology Gunma University, Japan.
In his presentation, I found it useful because installing few cameras on a street or block can increase
security to the people around the area and also it can help retrieving lost people or certain pets. At
the end of the presentation, they were some questions asked on how secure is applying the camera
on every street light and how it will not be prone by hackers and etc.

Multivariate Linear Model for Estimating the Higher Heating Value of Coal

The speaker was Engr. John Wilbert A. Orilla which is a representative of Dr. Alchris W. Go
from the Department of Chemical Engineering in the University of San Carlos. The presentation
is about the finding the heating value of a coal. I find it useful because finding the high heating
value will cost less resource of coal. A coal with high heating value has a high energy output
therefore made useful to power plants and other industries. At first I didn’t understand the formulas
tackled about on getting the HHV likewise it is still theoretical because the formulas varies.

Air Mapping of Classrooms in a Government Learning Institution in Cebu City: An

Extension Service

The speaker was Dr. Ronald M. Galindo from Cebu Technological University. The
presentation was about choosing the right area and the right environment for learning students at
school. If otherwise, the students would not perform well and a decrease of passers will be
achieving. This study will help the students to perform well on their studies. I found it less useful
but still a good research by Dr. Galindo.
Critical Indicators for sustainable manufacturing with group analytic process

The speaker was Dr. Lanndon A. Ocampo from Cebu Technological University. The
presentation is about calculating the high efficiency of the certain analytic processes which it can
help clarifying its efficiency. I found it useful but I really can’t seem to fathom because a bunch
of formulas were introduced.

Renewable Energy Source Study of USC DMME Application of Gorlov Helical Marine
Turbine

The speaker was Dr. Edwin A. Carcasona from the University of San Carlos. The presentation
is about the renewable source which we can harvest by using Gorlov Helical Marin Turbine. They
had a difficult in conducting the research because they need to find a certain place where there is
a strong current which can power up their turbine and produce energy. This was a helpful research
because people are finding an alternative source energy that is clean and efficient.

Research on Development of Unmanned Helicopters with a 4 Blade Rotor Head

The speaker was Dr. Nobumasa Sekishita from Toyohashi University of Technology Japan.
The presentation was about a remote controlled 4 blade helicopter instead of 2. This research is a
bit interesting because a mini helicopter uses a gasoline mini engine. There was a question about
the limited distance of the machine and the response is there was a specific distance but there is an
auto pilot option.

Hyper heuristic framework for a combinatorial optimization problem

The speaker was Engr. Renan Maglasang from University of San Carlos. The presentation was
about an algorithm that could solve Mechanical Engineering problems. I was not that interested
because a lot of unfamiliar formulas are introduced. But he certainly thinks that an algorithm will
solve certain mechanical engineering problems.

Experimental analysis of an airfoil with a Gurney flap for low-Reynolds number applications

The speaker was Yownin Albert Leung from Mindanao State University. The presentation was
about on how a Gurney flap can affect the performance of aircrafts. A wind tunnel is used to
compensate their research. It was a bit interesting because it can help balance the aircraft and also
this research can contribute in the industry of building efficient and well-made aircrafts.
Development of a box-wing wing-in-surface effect (WISE) vehicle for rapid and efficient
interisland transportation

The speaker was Jean Claude Gocela from Mindanao State University. The presentation is
about another alternative of travel which planes will fly near sea level. It will certainly cost less
and also much more efficient in traveling compared to boats. It will be useful in the Philippines
because it is an archipelagic country.

Conclusion:

The 8th IMERC was very useful to me because we can apply our learning studies to our further
research and also we will be able to think of a new research which, hopefully, can contribute to
the society.
