NO HOMEWORK POLICY

Homework has been a part of the schooling experience for multiple generations. There are
some lessons that are perfect for the classroom environment, but there are also some things
that children can learn better at home. Homework might seem like an inevitable part of school,
but more and more schools from other countries are banning it from their classrooms and it
might also happen here in the Philippines. I do not agree prohibiting teachers from assigning
academic work to be completed by students outside of regular school hours, is beneficial to
Filipino students.

Projects that students are expected to complete at home often pose a burdensome expense
on parents, who may not have a ready budget for the last-minute purchase of needed materials.
Assigning homework also adds to the workload of teachers, who must grade these assignments
in addition to their everyday work of preparing lessons.

Homework Gives Parents the Opportunity to Get Involved. One of the top three self-
reported reasons teachers have given for assigning homework is ''to show parents what's being
learned in school.'' Parents who want to be involved in their children's education have the
opportunity to inquire about their homework and review their assignments in order to get a
sense not only of what topics are being taught but also of their children's grasp of the topics.
Harris Cooper, a Duke University professor and proponent of homework, gives anecdotal
evidence of parents realizing their children had learning disabilities only when ''homework
revealed it to them.''(Study.com)

1 Homework is a vital part of education, because it gives students the opportunity to apply
knowledge gained in the classroom. This occurs in two ways — not only by creatively applying
the educational content, but also in giving students practice in developing good work habits and
methods. From a practical point of view, homework allows “more education” than can be fit
into a few hours of a school day

Teachers did not give homework not because they just want to but to let or know if the
students are really understand their lesson or not. Homework should have clear educational
objectives, and certainly should not pose undue physical and financial burdens on students and
their families. Those standards can be achieved, however, without resorting to banning
homework entirely, and still ensure that our youth are adequately prepared to take on the
challenges of a competitive world.
