HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT

HOUSEKEEPING
- Housekeeping is the management of household affairs.
- Means we are dealing with maintaining a clean and comfortable environment in the
premises.
- In other word, it is the housekeeping task to ensure the guest needs and preferences to
comfort and security are fulfilled.

HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT
- Housekeeping is one of the largest departments of the hotel which is responsible for
creating cleanliness, maintenance and safe environment.
- By providing the maximum comforts to the guest, it maintains the standard of the hotel
which contributes the hotel in achieving maximum profit by selling the rooms.
- It is also regarded as the EYE and EAR of the management from where the main revenue
income is generated.

FUNCTIONS OF HOUSEKEEPING DEPARTMENT


A Hotel Housekeeping Department has four main functions:
 Cleaning and Maintenance
 Training of its personnel
 Requisition and Control of necessary supplies and equipment.
 Paper work- schedule and report

Housekeeping usually covers the following areas:


 Guest rooms
 Hallways and corridors
 Lobby
 Public rooms and restaurants
 Offices
 Stairways
 Windows
 Stores, concessionaire shops
 Grounds
 Linen and Laundry area

SIX TASKS OF THE ROOM ATTENDANT


- Entering the guest room
- Cleaning of the guest room and protecting the guest from germs.
- Providing guest supplies
- Reporting Problems
- Limiting Guest Access
- Turndown Service

HOUSEKEEPING RULES AND DUTIES


- If a housekeeper is cleaning a room while a guest enters, the housekeeper should ask for
the key to make sure it’s their room.
- Housekeepers should make sure their cart does NOT block the door of the room that their
cleaning.
- Room attendants are responsible for checking the room for damages.
- Responsible for purchasing all guestroom and cleaning supplies for the hotel
- If a housekeeper finds items left behind by a guest when cleaning, he/she should
immediately take to their supervisor to be logged into a book and place into the lost a
found safe.

THE LAUNDRY DEPARTMENT


The Laundry Department has three major tasks:
 Washing Laundry - the laundry attendant is generally responsible for sorting, washing,
drying and folding and storing linens
 Care of Linens
 Inventory of Linens

ROLE OF EXECUTIVE HOUSEKEEPER


- The Executive Housekeeper is in charge of all housekeeping- related tasks in the hotel.
- He/she must have a forecast (number of guest rooms occupied) in order to schedule the
staff.
- In charge of training, scheduling, supervising and motivating the housekeeping staff.

FLOOR HK
- Responsible of the guest floor attached to him in a shift.
- Scope includes guest room, corridors, staircase and floor pantries of the allocated floor.
LINEN ROOM SUPERVISOR
- He/she is responsible for the acquisition storage, issuance and cleanliness of linen.
LAUNDRY SUPERVISOR
- Responsible for all laundry operation.
HOUSEMAN/HOUSE ATTENDANT
- responsible for cleaning the carpets wash wall, remove trash and recycling care for floors
and clean high and hard to reach areas.
LAUNDRY SUPERVISOR
- Responsible for all laundry operation.
- Make sure that the laundry is operating efficiently.
ROOM ATTENDANT
- Also known as chamber maids or room boy.
- Responsible for cleaning the guest room and bathroom allocated to them.
- Reports any repairs in guest room, damaged by staff or guest and any suspected theft of
hotel property.
NIGHT CLEANER
- To be able to handle any aspect of housekeeping night.
- Responsible and accountable at night for smooth housekeeping.
SEAMSTRESS
- Fabricated a variety of items, from drapers to bed covering and uniform.
- Responsible mending and repairing fabric item.
