Performance enhancement of propane pre-cooled mixed refrigerant LNG plant

Description: The schematic diagram shows an example of a typical LNG production process. The design is
based and licensed by Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (APCI). About 77% of LNG plants uses propane pre-
cooled Multi-Component Refrigerant which is illustrated from the schematic diagram. Feed gas passes
through gas sweetening for the removal of impurities such as H2S, CO2, H2O, and Hg. It decreases its
temperature through pre-cooler and cold box resulting to condensation of the gas. The remaining gas and
condensate are separated in the separator, giving of a LNG product. The condensate undergoes
fractionation to give of propane, butane, and pentane. Two refrigeration process are used in the process:
Propane and MCR cycle. Propane cycle provides cooling to pre-cooler, cold box, and fractionation. MCR
cycle provides cooling for cryogenic column.
