Application Information

I. Applicants’ Eligibility
Foreign students who meet the following requirements are eligible to apply.
a. Nationality:
To be eligible to apply, applicants must qualify for legal inter national
student status of the Ministry of Education's "Regulations Regarding
International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan”, (For article
content, please see the appendix) and never once held the status of
Overseas Chinese Student before at the point of application.
b. Academic qualifications:
● International students with a high school diploma are eligible to apply for
undergraduate programs; a Bachelor’s degree for Master’s programs;
and a Master’s degree for PhD programs.
● Academic credentials from Mainland China: The Regulations Governing
the Accreditation of Schools in Mainland China shall apply.
● Academic credentials from Hong Kong or Macao: Academic Credential
Verification and Accreditation Methods adopted in Hong Kong and
Macao shall apply.
● Academic credentials earned at overseas Taiwan schools or Taiwan
schools in Mainland China shall be regarded as the same as those at
domestic schools with equivalent levels. Academic credentials referred
in the preceding 2 items shall be subject to the Regulations Regarding
the Assessment and Recognition of Foreign Academic Credentials for
Institutions of Higher Education. However, academic credentials earned
from schools or branches established in Mainland China by foreign
schools shall require public notarization in Mainland China and be
verified and examined by an institute established or appointed by, or
through a private agency.

V. Application Procedures
1. Time period
FALL semester: January 10 to March 30, 2015
SPRING semester: July 10 to October 10, 2015
2. Online Application
(1) Website: https://admissions.oia.ncku.edu.tw/
(3) Note:
a. Only accept online applications. Applicants have completed online appli
cation and upload all the required documents before the deadline.
b. Applicants can apply for only one account in the online application
system. Applicants with more than one account will be taken as invalid.
h. Applicants should remember your email used for application and pass
word in order to change your information, upload your documents, and
check your application status later on.

3. Application Fee Payment
(1) After filling out the online application form, an account number will be generated
and shown on the online system. The application fee should be remitted to an
NCKU designated bank (see below) through your local bank via Telegraphic
Transfer (T/T). Please enclose a copy of the transaction receipt through the
application system. The charge for inter-bank transfer will be borne by the appli
cant.
(2) Application fee: TWD 1,600 or USD 60 will be charged for each applicant.
(3) After the application fee has been paid, no refund will be given for any reason,
including withdrawing the application, failing to meet application requirements,
paying by mistake and making repeated payments.
(4) Application for which the application fee is not paid will not be processed.
(5) Payment within Taiwan is only accepted in TWD, while payment outside Taiwan
is only accepted in USD. We do not accept other currencies. Neither do we
accept cash sent by post nor bank checks.
■ Payment outside Taiwan: The system will be generated and provided an account
number for each applicant. Applicants should go to your local bank to pay via
international wire transfer.

(2) Declaration
Applicants should download and print out the “Declaration” form and sign, then
scan and upload back onto the application system.

(3) The highest degree diploma
● The diploma should verify with official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, con
sulates, or missions abroad or by other notary institutes authorized by the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C.
● Undergraduate program applicants: High school diploma (or above)
● Master’s program applicants: Bachelor’s degree diploma (or above)
● Ph.D. program applicants: Master’s degree diploma (or above)
Note 1: If the diploma and transcript are not in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of
a translation in English or Chinese is required; if the degree diploma and tran
script are notarized from a university in Taiwan, it don’t have to be verified.
Note 2: Applicants graduating in the same year do not have to submit their diploma yet,
can submit a copy of the student ID showing the year of study instead.
However, they will have to submit verified diploma and transcript on the regis
tration day. Or the admission status will be cancelled.
Note 3: For applicants whose high school graduating level is only equivalent to Taiwan's
high school second grade, once admitted, at least 12 credits at NCKU in
addition to each department's credit requirement are required before
graduation.

(7) Study plan
● All applicants are required to submit a study plan which contains details
regarding his or her education background, research interest, motivations for
further study, etc.

VI. Additional Requirements of Departments/Institutes

College of Liberal Arts |
1. Applicants should provide a certificate of Chinese language
proficiency, either Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language (TOCFL,
formerly known as TOP) or Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK). If neither of
them are available, applicants should submit an equivalent certificate
of Chinese language proficiency.

2. Applicants for both of M.A and Ph.D programs should provide a

3. A Ph.D program applicant should provide an M.A thesis and relevant

VII. Admission Announcements
2. Applicants can login the online application system to check the admission
results.
VIII. Registration
1. All admitted students must confirm the acceptance for studies online before the
deadline. Applicants who fail to do the procedure will be considered as giving up
their offer of admission.
2. All admitted students should register with the relevant offices by the designated
time, following administration procedures. The required documents will be stated
and detailed in the admission package. Failure to complete the registration
procedure will be considered as giving up their offer of admission.
3. All admitted students must provide the highest degree diploma, verified with
official stamps by the R.O.C. embassies, consulates, or missions abroad or by
other notary institutes authorized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, R.O.C. (This
document will be returned after being examined and filed). If the diploma is not
in Chinese or English, a notarized copy of a translation in English or Chinese is
required; if the degree diploma is notarized from a university in Taiwan, it does
not have to be verified.
4. All admitted students must provide proof of medical and personal accidental
insurance from their home country valid from entrying into the ROC and up to at
least six months upon enrollment in accordance or purchase the six-month
medical and accidental insurance coverage through NCKU. Students already
insured by the ROC's national health insurance must also provide proof of
insurance. If the proof of insurance is issued outside of Taiwan, it should be
verified by ROC representative offices in the country where the document is
issued.

IX. Note
1. If anyone who has applied or received offer of admission into NCKU violates any
of the regulations of the Ministry of Education (MOE) “Regulations Regarding
International Students Undertaking Studies in Taiwan” (see Appendix 1), or if any
of the documents submitted is found to be fraudulent, forged or altered, it will
result in immediate cancellation of admission, deprivation of their recognized
status as a NCKU registered student, or revocation of their NCKU diploma. No
academic certificate will be given.
2. For applicants whose high school graduating level is only equivalent to Taiwan's
high school second grade, once admitted, at least 12 credits at NCKU in addi
tion to each department's credit requirement are required before graduation.
3. The National Cheng Kung University Code for the TOEFL is 2450、for the GRE
is 3697。 Please fill in this code, and then the ETS will directly send your tran
scripts to us directly.
6. During the course of study in Taiwan, international students, who are approved
for initial household registration, resident registration, naturalization or
restoration of their ROC nationality, will lose their international student status
and shall withdraw from school.

X. Scholarship information
Note: Applicants granted any scholarship award are NOT guaranteed University
entrance admission.
NCKU Scholarship
1. Each MS/PhD student will get NT$ 4500 per month, totally
eight months for the first year.
2. Each MS/PhD student will get US$ 60 application fee refunded
after completing all enrollment procedures
3. Each MS student will get NT$ 6,000 to 8,000 per month
Department of dependent upon performance offered by academic adviser.
Mechanical 4. Each PhD student will get NT$ 8,000 to 18,000 per month
Engineering dependent upon performance offered by academic adviser.
5. How to apply: After completing all enrollment procedures,
students must submit “Personal Documents for Studying in
Taiwan” to ME department office.
Note: The scholarship will be cancelled if students are in temporary
suspension of school or dropped out of school.

Taiwan Government scholarship
NCKU has been cooperating with Taiwan ICDF from 2007 for an
International Master's Program in Civil Engineering and Management;
from 2014 we are providing a further range of bachelor’s programs
taught in Mandarin.
2. Scholarship Benefits
International Entitlements: The Taiwan ICDF provides each scholarship recipient
Cooperation and with a full scholarship, including return airfare, housing, tuition and
Development Fund
(ICDF) credit fees, insurance, textbook costs and a monthly allowance.

Master’s Program in Civil Engineering and Management: 2 years

Note: Recipients should take the pre-degree Mandarin Language
Enrichment Program (LEP) for a maximum of one year at
National Cheng Kung University Chinese Language Center, and
pass the Level 3 Chinese proficiency test (TOCFL) by the end of
first year. The scholarship will be terminated if recipients fail to
provide a certificate for the Level 3 Chinese proficiency test by
the end of the first year.

XI. Tuition fee and other fees
Compulsory fees are fees for Student Accident Insurance, National Health Insurance,
etc. Book costs are at the student’s expense and vary from program to program; living
costs vary depending on individual living styles.

Other Accommodation:
Accommodations nearby NCKU can be easily found. There are living spaces for rent
that are priced from NTD$4,000 to NTD$8,000 per month. You can make personal
inquiries for more detailed information about renting your own living space.
NCKU provides free Chinese language courses (Chinese Classes for Foreign Students, CFS) upon
applying for one academic year. The courses provide sessions of 3 hours per week equivalent to 2
credits in a semester. Only new students are eligible to apply. The classes are offered in different levels
to suit each student’s needs. This is a great opportunity for anyone wishing to learn Chinese and to have
an in-depth understanding of the local culture.
