Lesson Plan 2016-2017 by Jacquelyn Veith

Introduction (30 minutes): • Strategies that will help students make connections to previous
learning will be from counting on familiar objects like fingers, spanning
to familiar visual objects on worksheets and activities provided.
• Students are supported to experience deeper learning through daily
assignments of lecture, crafting, music, written work, and evaluations
through Zunal, an Ed Tech tool based on the math standard K.CC.B.4b.
As we follow the assignments of this WebQuest, students will
understand the relationship between numbers and quantities and how
numbers relate to the number of elements in a set of up to 10.
• I will explain to the students that they will be working with ordering
numbers from 0-10 today as we all count to ten on our fingers.
• I will write the word “order” on the board, and explain that order is
the arrangement of things in a particular pattern or sequence.
• Students will know the learning purpose and connection of the lesson
by first understanding the importance of the relationships between
numbers and objects in concrete with explanation by using the Ed Tech
tool of Voki to express the importance of objects under the Christmas
tree and whom they belong to based off the character of Santa’s wife.
• I will then tell them that they will soon make their own Voki and
answer why counting is important to know.
• Students will build their current knowledge by working on the Ed tech
tool of The Berenstain Bears Matchbook, matching objects up to the
number 2.
• I will display the numbers 1-10 in order through the Ed Tech tool of
Youtube with the song “Counting Pumpkins - Learning Numbers 1 to
10”
• After, students will then start their project of “Pumpkin Seed Counting
Book,” where students glue pumpkin seeds that match each pumpkin’s
number on each page.
• Students will continue working on their Pumpkin Seed Counting Book
every day until the end of the week or when they’ve finished.

Daily Reviews (5 minutes): • Students will then use the Ed Tech tool IXL to count objects up to 10.
• Instructional adjustments are based on students’ results from their
formative assessments by reviewing the process and adjusting it
according to their averages both individually and as a whole classroom,
along with their formative feedback, with Excel Spreadsheet. I will be
able to see what works and what does not and adjust it accordingly.
• IXL gives immediate and meaningful feedback that I can track with
Excel for student and classroom progress.
• I will walk around and observe/guide how the students follow the
instructions of their worksheets.
• Student will be pre-assessed throughout each segment by observing
what they previously know before acquiring new knowledge through
the various assignments given. Work samples used to plan this lesson
were based off the CCSD Kindergarten Math Common Core Standards.

Daily Objective (10 minutes) : • Through Engagement, I will have a permanent objective board on my
wall explaining the daily objectives. We will read each objective
together.
• For this lesson, students have to understand the relationship between
numbers and quantities, connecting objects to cardinality from 1-10
by:
• Counting objects in standard order (I can count to ten!);
• Pairing each object with one and only one number name (An image of
a caterpillar’s body will be counted up to 10);
• Paring each number name with one and only one object (Each part of
the caterpillar’s body will be a different color as well as each number);
• Explaining the relationship between each number order (The
Caterpillar’s body will have number’s velcroed to it, allowing for some
numbers to be missing or out of order.
• Students will receive formative feedback with questions pertaining to
how they feel about the different activities, what they’ve learned, and
their rating scale of each lesson. I will use SurveyMonkey with the use
of iClickers by incorporating it in between each lesson plan throughout
the year. I will ask each student to pick the right number that goes
with the right object as we discuss each number from smallest to
biggest).
Concept and Skill • We will play Mingle and Count as I shout out the number and the
Development and Application students have to form the correct amount of bodies per group.
(10 minutes): • Students, who are missing or leftover, give us the opportunity to count
how many we would need/are missing explain why numbers are
ordered.
• I will verbally ask the students if we are missing any or need more and
have them respond back to me the answer.
• Ask students to explain their thinking when ordering the numbers.

Guided/Independent/Group • Students will develop their skills in argumentation, explanation, and

Practice (20): critique, using logic/evidence to support or refute a claim or position
by creating their own Voki in small groups with the help of my
instruction. They will see my PowerPoint presentation of objects on
the screen in the front of the class and have their Voki simply answer
the correct number of objects. The students must decipher amongst
each other the correct amount of objects before answering creating
the necessary circumstance to develop these skills.
• At the end, each group will have their Voki explain why counting is
important to know.

Homework Assignments: • The students will use multiple representations of concepts in their
thinking with an online visual blog that collaborate their individual
assignments with PiktoChart.
• Students will be supported in revising their learning strategies based
on their progress by the capabilities of editing their PiktoChart via

what they have learned and my critique for full points all the way up
until the specific segment of standards is over. All evaluations can be
revisited for half credit per each incorrect answer. Students can also go
on their PiktoChart or work on their original worksheets (which will
later be uploaded to their PiktoChart) at home. All evaluations can be
revisited for half credit per each incorrect answer.
• If student does not have access to a computer, the student can take
home their worksheet and I can re-upload their correct answers for full
credit.
• Students will share their progress through the Weebly website for the
parents to access, encouraging instructional support and
understanding at home as well. I will monitor the support outside of
the school by allowing them to share any outside activities or thoughts
that correlates with the lesson.

Closure (10 minutes): • The opportunities students will have to use their personal experiences
and knowledge to connect to the new concepts and skills will be for
students to present their PiktoCharts to the classroom on more than
one occasion by:
• Having students share their Voki answers with each other through
their personal PiktoChart;
• Allowing opportunity to present their Pumpkin Seed Counting Book
with each other through their PiktoChart.
• Students will collaborate with each other through the various group
activities within the above Ed Tech tools along with the showcasing of
their work. Other classmates will be encouraged to give feedback in a
supportive and inquisitive manner.

Long-Term Memory Review: • Students will know the learning goals, the performance criteria and
purpose of the lesson through reflection of our classroom Weebly site
that will be updated daily along with their personal PiktoChart links
and any other helpful links to the activities/curriculum.
• Parents and students will be notified of future assessments along with
their PiktoChart’s that explain what we are studying and how the
student is doing.
• I will monitor the support outside of the school by allowing them to
share any outside activities or thoughts that correlates with the lesson.
