CORRECTION OF THE SERVICE TOOL NUMBER

SERVICE NOTICE

This is to inform of the correction for tool in the chapter “ENGINE PROPER”.
The corrected tool is the Front Oil Seal Replacer. For details of the correction,
refer to the followings and attached sheets.
You are kindly requested to inform dealers and workshops under your control of
the contents.

1. Remove oil seal slinger on the crankshaft side:

z To remove the adhered slinger with sealant from the crank-
shaft, tap the end surface of the oil seal slinger uniformly
using a rod of 20 mm (0.79 in) diameter until it starts to
move along its axis.

z Apply engine oil all around the perimeter at the front side of
the crankshaft.

z Remove the oil seal slinger using the puller assembly

(99690 00Z01).
z Remove adhered sealant, etc. from the crankshaft and wipe
the section clean.

2. Install the front cover through a gasket.

: 54 - 74 N•m {5.5 - 7.5 kgf•m, 40 - 54 ft•lbf}
3. Install the oil seal assembly:
z Apply a thin layer of engine oil to the periphery of the outer
ring seal and lip part of the oil seal (contacting surface to
the slinger).

z Apply THREE BOND No.TB1207C (or equivalent) to the

inner circumference of the oil seal slinger and to the periph-
ery of the crankshaft (at the installing part of the oil seal
slinger).

z Press-fit the oil seal assembly (crankshaft side and front

cover side integrated type) until it fits flush with the end sur-
face of the front cover, using the front oil seal replacer
(99691 00Z01).
NOTE
z Press-fit the oil seal assembly gradually.
z Excessive force applied in press-fitting process may
generate a gap between slinger side and peripheral seal
side and may result in oil leakage.
z Do not separate peripheral seal side and slinger side.

4. Apply THREE BOND No. TB1207C (or equivalent) to the

periphery of fitting surfaces (refer to the figure) of crankshaft
and slinger.

NOTE
z When working without special tool, measure the distance
between the end of the slinger and the end of the periph-
eral seal after pressing in the oil seal.
Standard dimension Less than ±0.3 mm (±0.0118 in)

z When the value exceeds the standard dimension, adjust

at the slinger side with a standard on the end surface (A)
of peripheral seal (level with the end surface of the front
cover).
Rear oil seal
1. Remove the flywheel.
2. Remove the flywheel housing with the peripheral seal at the
housing side.
z Drive the peripheral seal out of the housing.
z Remove adhesion thing on the press-in section of the
peripheral seal and wipe clean.

3. Remove the oil seal slinger at crankshaft side.

z To remove the adhered slinger and the crankshaft with seal-
ing material, use a rod 20 mm (0.79 in) diameter, and tap
the end surface of the oil seal slinger uniformly until it starts
to move along its axis.
