Using technology in agriculture, we’re able to measure the data and create solutions.

A wide variety of instruments use the sensor technology to ensure the farm
environment is ideal. An example of this is the Airborne, laser-based radar (LIDAR),
operating in the visible and infrared (IR) bands, that can provide detailed, three-
dimensional information on ground cover, in conjunction with multi-spectral
sensors. It can also stimulate plant fluorescence, thereby providing a means to
monitor plant health on an extensive scale.

In the livestock sector, the creation of robotic milking machines has multifold
benefits. The cups are firmly but gently attached to cows’ teats, avoiding damage to
the cow and consequent damage to the machine. The machines can complete the
tasks in a more efficient manner which allows for the cows to be milked more often
the usual procedure of twice a day creating an increase in milk yield.

Genetically modified food offers a time-saving method for producing larger, higher-
quality crops with less effort and expense. Additionally, it provides a solution for
many dietary issues. As highlighted in a New York Times article entitled
“Genetically Modified Crops: A Success Story, or Not?” Rice-based diets are
deficient in a precursor of vitamin A, causing blindness and death in children.
[Genetically modified food] is delivering “golden rice” with novel genes that correct
the deficiency. Alternatively, it can assist farmers with pest control. In India, the
bollworm pests would constantly attack the cotton plants until a genetically modified
cotton plant was created to combat the problem. This led to an increase in their yield
and the end of their battle with the bollworm pests.

Technology in the agricultural field has allowed farmers to transform their farms
into a multi-faceted success. The benefits listed above is just the tip of the iceberg
regarding technological solutions in agriculture.
