Main Topic: Effective Teaching

INTRODUCTION

Effectiveness in any field is the ability to produce intended or expected outcome. In other
words, effective teaching can be measured when learning objectives is successfully attained.
Going through with this issue, effective teaching is a multidisciplinary approach. It is not just
simply attaining the learning targets but we have to consider different factors, which can
positively affect and intervene such problem. Teacher itself, its attitude towards teaching
profession is one of the key factor that lead into teaching effectively. Since teacher serve as the
backbone of our education system, there is aneed for us to define first what makes an effective
teacher. Considering that, research viewed teacher as the most important variable in the learner’s
educational environment, for they motivate, guide and direct learner’s quest for quality
education. Furtheremore, studies also suggest that, attracting quality entrants to the teaching
profession, and providing high quality pre-service education and ongoing professional
development are important requirements for maintaining and raising standards for teaching.
The effects of classroom practices or teaching strategies when added to those personal
attitude of the teacher, its professional development and characteristics towards teachimg
profession, comparably has greater effect to those of individual learners. It was suggested that
teachers can contribute as much to student learning as the students themselves. Teacher’s
mastery on relevant subjects varies from one subject to the next so then, it makes difference, so
too standardized test measures individual competence towards the individual subject areas.
Although it may be difficult to ensure all students experience high uality teaching the fact that
teachers and teaching makes such an important difference to student outcomes and life chances
should provide impetus to policymakers and practitioners to address the crucial issues of
educational effectiveness, quality teaching and teaching standards (Ko, et al., 2013). It was found
out also that student perform well in intermediate examination based with students outline
sonsisted of his approach towards communication, learning facilities, proper guidance and family
stress (Jecayenfa, 2014).
In addition, factors like problems for teachers that limit their overall effectiveness like;
balancing a wide range of students needs, lack of parental support, lack of proper funding,
overemphasis on standardized testing, poor public perception and educational trends (Meador,
2019). Further explanation is that the use of instructional resources, the availability of school
facilities like; suitable textbooks, enough number of qualified skilled teachers, school libraries
and laboratories which are adequate should also be provided for schools. The availability of
these resources can firmly affects and expands the learning needs of individual learner. However,
scarcities of these will now limit learning needs and changing demands will constraints
educational system. In order to raise the quality education, teacher efficiency and productivity so
too, with the students availability of learning materials are neede in respond to new demands of
the society as its constantly changing.
PROBLEMS AND INTERVENTIONS

Teachers greatly affects our educational sytem. Their individual uniqueness and
capacities, their personal and professional attributes lead towards educational trends. Teachers
attitude really matters for they are the ones who will do the planning, designing, implementing
and even evaluating the curriculum. Basically, they are expected to become effective in so may
ways and act accordingly. Qualities of effective teaching (Deluca, 2016) like, (1)teacher should
have the ability to develop relationship with their students. They need to be able to build trusting
relationships with students in order to create a safe, positive, and productive learning
environment. (2)Teacher also needs patience, caring and kind personality. Their personality
characteristics related to being a compassionate person and having a sensitivity to student
differences. (3)Teachers should also have knowledge of learners, this is a broad category that
incorporates knowledge of the cognitive, social and emotional development of learners. It
includes an understanding on how students learn at a given developmental level, awareness that
learners have individual needs and abilities and understanding also that instruction should
tailored to meet each learner’s needs. (4) Dedication to teaching, dedication refers to a love of
teaching or passion for the work, which includes commitment to student’s success. To a student,
this means a teacher should be “always willing to help and give time”. (5) Teachers should also
have engaging students to learning. Students also said that teachers should be able to engage and
motivate students to learn. Researches talk about three types of engagement that required for
students to learn: cognitive, emotional, and behavioral. Survey respondents mostly focused on
making content interesting and the ability to motivate students to learn.
In addition, professional development of the teachers help them to do effective teaching
effectively. Research found out that teacher’s perception on effective teaching practices were,
showing of mastery on subject matter, updating of knowledge about the subject matter, utilizing
an appropriate strategies and methods and observing an ethical and moral principles in teaching.
And the top problems perceived by teachers that hinder their effective teaching includes in
adequacy of laboratory facilities and equipments, insufficient library references, and classrooms
which are not conducive for teaching-learning process (Masbaño, 2016).
Furtheremore, Schools that lack a critical mass of active teachers may indeed not matter
much; their students will be no less or more able to meet high academic standards than their
talents and home resources will allow. But schools that do not have a critical mass of active
teachers can actually provide a value added; they can help their students reach higher levels of
academic performance than those students otherwise would reach. Through their teachers, then
shools, can be the key mechanism for helping students meet high standards (Wenglinsky, 2001).
