Alberta Express Entry Stream


– Document Checklist
Note: Only candidates that have received a Notification of Interest (NOI) letter from the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program
(AINP) and who are invited to apply are eligible to submit an application under the Alberta Express Entry Stream. To apply to
the AINP, you will need to include the documents listed below. If any documents are missing, your application may be returned
or declined.

Include this document checklist with your completed application. Documents must be submitted in the same order as the
Document Checklist. Documents should be loose (with no bindings) and be placed in an envelope. Do not use staples, paper
clips, binder clips, dividers or plastic document sleeves or other bindings or provide your application in a binder.

The AINP does not guarantee that all complete applications received by the AINP will be assessed or that all candidates who
meet the assessment criteria will be issued a nomination. Review the declaration in the Alberta Express Entry Stream form
for complete information. Submission of an application or nomination by the AINP does not guarantee you will be issued a
permanent resident visa.

Certified Translation
Provide a certified translation with any documents that are not in English or French, and submit your translation documents
with the original versions. Visit the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Alberta (ATIA) to find a certified translator in

Forms and documents required by all Candidates

Application form Your application form must be completed, dated and signed. Original

same, including the bar code page.
ƒƒ All forms must have original signatures in blue ink.

Notification of Candidate only: Copy


Interest letter Submit a copy of the Notification of Interest letter you received from
from the AINP the AINP

Valid passports Candidate and spouse/common-law partner (if applicable): Copy


Include only the personal information page and any page(s) showing
the expiry and renewal date(s) of the passport(s).

Work permit(s) Candidate only: Copy

Approved Candidate and spouse/common-law partner (if applicable): Copy


language test ƒƒ Do not include language assessments for dependents.
ƒƒ The test results cannot be more than two years old.
Note: If you are nominated by the AINP, your language test results
included with your application for permanent residence will also need
to be less than two years. You may need to update your test results
prior to applying to the federal government.
ƒƒ The AINP accepts only the following approved language tests:
• Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP)
General Test, or
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS) General
Training Test, or
• Test d’évaluation de français (TEF), or
• Test de connaissance du français (TCF)
ƒƒ Test results must meet the minimum standards outlined on the IRCC

Educational Candidate only: Original


Credential ƒƒ Do not include an ECA for family members.
Assessment (ECA) ƒƒ Submit an ECA report for your highest level of education from one of
the designated organizations. The IRCC website lists the designated
organizations for ECAs: Canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/
services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/documents/education-assessed/how.

ƒƒ You do not need to provide an ECA if:
• You have a Canadian degree, diploma or certificate from a
recognized Canadian post-secondary, technical college or
secondary institution, or
• You have a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or a trade
certificate recognized by Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry
Training (AIT).

outside of Canada).

AIT recognized Candidate only: Copy


trade certificate ƒƒ Submit your recognized trade certificate if your occupation or work
(if applicable) experience are in a trade occupation.
ƒƒ A recognized trade certificate is one of the following:
• AIT Qualification Certificate, or
• Interprovincial Red Seal, or
• AIT-Recognized Trade Certificate

Reference letter(s) Candidate only: Original


ƒƒ Submit reference letter(s) for: or copy
• your current employment
• your previous employment from Canada and outside of Canada
(if applicable).
ƒƒ Your reference letter(s) must be signed by a manager or supervisor
from the company.
ƒƒ Your reference letter(s) must be on the company letterhead and must
include:
• job title
• salary
• period of employment
• hours of work per week
• main job duties you perform on a daily basis* (see note below)
• education required
• skills and knowledge necessary for duties
• work experience required
• include employer contact information
ƒƒ You may also submit your employment contract(s) or job offer letter(s)
that include this information.
*Note: When listing main job duties, do not copy job duties from the
National Occupational Classification (NOC) code description.

Industry and Candidate only: Copy


association Submit all licenses, registration and certification documents required to
standards work in your occupation in Alberta.

Alberta relative(s) Candidate only: Certified
(if applicable) ƒƒ Submit all relevant legal documents, clearly proving the family copy
relationship between you and your Alberta parent(s), sibling(s) or
child(ren) (e.g. birth certificate, adoption documents, etc.)
ƒƒ Submit proof of your Alberta relative’s Canadian permanent residence
or citizenship
ƒƒ Submit proof of your Alberta relative’s residency in Alberta
ƒƒ Do not provide information on your other relatives or any relatives of
your spouse or common law partner.

Important considerations

ƒƒ Review the AINP website to review criteria and application guidelines. Applications that do not meet these criteria and
guidelines will be declined. www.alberta.ca/ainp-selection-criteria.aspx#toc-2
ƒƒ Complete every question and section on the forms: if a question does not apply to you, write N/A or Not Applicable.
ƒƒ If any documents are missing, your application may be returned or declined.
ƒƒ If required, the AINP may request additional information or documents which may affect processing times.
ƒƒ Please be careful when you submit your supporting documents. Read the checklist carefully and submit documents in the
format (original or copy) indicated. The AINP is not responsible for returning your original documents.
ƒƒ Do not submit handwritten application forms.
ƒƒ Make sure you are submitting the current version of all forms. Submitted AINP forms must include the 2D bar code and have
the same identification numbers on all pages.
• The identification number is on the bottom right side of each page of the application form.
• To be sure all identification numbers at the bottom of each application page are the same, you must print all pages of the
application at the same time, including the bar code page.
• If you need to change any of the pages, make your changes, then save and print the entire application again.
