Introduction
As mandated by Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines,
the National Nutrition Council (NNC) coordinates the nationwide celebration of
Nutrition Month every July in order to increase awareness of Filipinos and pressing
nutrition concerns. And with this, Lapu-Lapu City College celebrates Nutrition Month
that will commence on 9th of July and will culminate on 30th of July 2018.
According to the NNC of the Philippines, the 2018 Nutrition Month theme is
“Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!” This theme focuses on food
production at home through the family’s own garden. It also aims to improve the
healthy food consumption of Filipinos, food security or to be self-sufficient as
possible with backyard gardening through increasing access to a diversified source
of food for families and communities alike, as well as improved incomes through
sales from home-grown produce. Moreover, the Nutrition Month campaign is also an
opportunity to promote the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022
to address malnutrition in the country.
II. Rationale
