Introduction
As mandated by Presidential Decree No. 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines,
the National Nutrition Council (NNC) coordinates the nationwide celebration of
Nutrition Month every July in order to increase awareness of Filipinos and pressing
nutrition concerns. And with this, Lapu-Lapu City College celebrates Nutrition Month
that will commence on 9th of July and will culminate on 30th of July 2018.
According to the NNC of the Philippines, the 2018 Nutrition Month theme is
“Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin!” This theme focuses on food
production at home through the family’s own garden. It also aims to improve the
healthy food consumption of Filipinos, food security or to be self-sufficient as
possible with backyard gardening through increasing access to a diversified source
of food for families and communities alike, as well as improved incomes through
sales from home-grown produce. Moreover, the Nutrition Month campaign is also an
opportunity to promote the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2017-2022
to address malnutrition in the country.

II. Rationale

In July 2018, people across the Philippines celebrated the National Nutrition Month
with various activities led by the National Nutrition Council every year, a theme is
chosen to highlight an important and timely concern on nutrition as approved by the
National Nutrition Council Technical Committee. And in this year’s celebration of
Nutrition Month, the theme is “Ugaliing magtanim, Sapat na nutrisyon aanihin.”

Various elements of the month-long campaign raised public awareness in improving

food and nutrition security. And Lapu-Lapu City College Education Department joins
hand in this month-long celebration through various activities such as Essay Writing,
Slogan Contest, Poster Making Contest, Cooking Contest and Jingle Contest. And
through these activities, the students will not only show their depth understanding on
this year’s Nutrition Month theme but also create comradeship and teamwork.
III. Objectives:

These activities are created in order to:

 To be able to put in-depth understanding on this year’s Nutrition Month
Theme through participating in various school activities.
 To raise awareness on the importance of food and nutrition security.
 To create comradeship and teamwork among students and teachers.
