CRA Pipes:

Corrosion Test – ASTM G48(a)(b)(c) Method A - Test temperature: 50 C Test duration : 72 hours - No pitting at 20X
magnification Weight loss shall be less than 4.0 g/m2

The thickness of the specimen shall not be less than 2.0 mm. Specimen thickness down to 1.5 mm
can be accepted for small diameter pipes if approved by the Chairman of the Materials & Corrosion
Control Standards Committee.

Residual Magnetism

Metallographic Examination

Hydro test
Dimension inspection
100% of the pipes shall be inspected for pipe end dimensions.

Wall thickness

CRA wall thickness on the clad plates shall be checked at least nine points using magnetic field
induction method as per ASTM B499. Locations of readings on plate shall be uniformly distributed.

Test certificate shall include the following information as a minimum:

a) Specified outside diameter, wall thickness for the backing steel pipe and the CRA
clad/liner and grade of the backing steel pipe and CRA clad/liner.
b) Chemical composition of the backing steel pipe (including carbon equivalent/PCM) and
CRA clad/liner.
c) Heat treatment condition of the baking steel pipe and the CRA liner in case of lined pipe.
d) CVN impact test results for the backing steel pipe including sample size, orientation and
test temperature.
e) DWTT results, if applicable.
f) Results of all the mechanical tests specified in the standard.
g) Hydrostatic test pressure and test duration.
h) Details of NDT used for laminations check, disbonding and inspection of welded seams
and overlays.
i) Corrosion tests, including weight loss (where applicable).
j) Ferrite content for duplex and super duplex stainless steel lined/clad pipes (as per paragraph
8.4.1).

Test certificate shall state that the radiation levels from the pipes are less than 100 beckerels/gram
or equivalent. The certification can be based on measurements reported by the steel mill supplying
the raw material.
Regarding the field testing of cast steel valves having size greater than 2 inch, contractor is pro-actively
notified to comply the 04-SAMSS-048 para 5.1.1 requirements. Which states that, the valve shall be
subjected to cyclic hydrostatic shell test for two cycles as follow:
• Primary pressure-holding period (5 minutes minimum)
• Reduction of the pressure to zero
• Secondary pressure-holding period (15 minutes minimum).
Failure to meet the SAMSS requirements will lead to rejection of valve testing.

Regarding the flange face cleaning prior to the flange joint assembly, contractor is pro-actively
instructed to make sure that the flange faces were not over cleaned and the surface finish of the gasket
contact shall be according to SAEP-351, Appendix A.
