6. WIRING
6.1 Precautions
When wiring, consider the following items to avoid erroneous operation. damage or incorrect
usage to the inverter.
Cautions on Wiring
(1) Do not connect the power supply wires to the output terminals (U, V, W) of the inverter.
lf they are connected to these terminals, it will damage the inverter.
(2) Terminals P and PR are used for connection of the optional brake resiS1or (refer to
page 112). Never short circuit or connect anything other than the brake resistor across
these terminals.
(3) Use sleeved solderless terminals for the connection of the power supply and the motor.
(4) Common terminals SF, 5, and P24 in the terminal block for the control circult are not
at the same potential. Do not connect or ground these terminals.
(5) Use only shielded or twisted cables to connect the control circuits. These wires must
be routed as fa r as possible from the maln power and AC relay logic circuits.
(6) During wiring, close the slots on the top ol the inverter with a cover so that cut pieces
ol wire will not enter the inverter.
(7) Additional isolat1on should be provided between any control tenninals. and power ter-
minals via use of correclly rated prepheral dev1des such as:
A) Control Switches 6) Potentiometers C) Meters. etc.
lf possible, theso are to be manufacturad accordlng to IEC 947 standards or
equivalen\.
11 modifícation of lhc w1rlng or other work becomes necessary alter opcrating lhe 1nverter,
do not touch the wire or 1erm1nals until powcr is dJsconnecled and the POWER CHARGE
indicating lamp IS ext1nguishcd lar al leas! 1O minutes. Chock with a !estor thot there is
no residual voltagc ocross terminals "Pt+• and •.• before slarting modífications.
(1) lf the motor is lnstallod a long distance from the inverter, available motor torque will
be reduced due to voltage drop In the motor cable, especially when the motor is
operating at low frequencies. Select the wire slze so that voltage drop is less than 2%.
(2) At extreme distances, the charging current gonerated due to floating capacity between
the wires may trigger the curren! limit lunction. To avoid this problem, the max1mum
wiríng distance should be limited to the vatues given in the lollowing table. lf the ap-
ptieation requires w1ring longer than the permiss1ble limits, refer to Mitsubishi.

6. WIRING
(1) 11 the application has a commercial power supply by pass circuit as shown in the il-
lusl ration to the right, accidental connection ol line power to the inverter output ter-
minals will damage the inverter. To avoid this problem, interlock MC1 and MC2 both
electrically and mechanically.

(2) At an occurrenoe ol power interruption. il the start signa! (start switch} is retained ON
with the lrequency instruction retained, the inverter will restar! automatically when
power is restored. 11 restarting ol the inverter is not desired on power restoration, it is
necessary to install a magnetic contactor (MC) on the· input ol the inverter and to
design a control sequence that disables the start signa!.
(3) Low level signals are used in the control circuit. Use dry contacts, two contacts ar-
ranged in parallel, or a twin-contact to prevent detective contacting.
(4) Do nbt input vollage to contact input terminals (STF, lor example) ol the control circuit.
(5) Do not apply voltage directly to the atarm output signa! termlnals (A, B. C) without a
relay coil or lamp.
(6) 11, according to the application, an open collector outpul such as an output from a
programmable controller is connected directly to the inverter input terminal, use ter-
minal PC (externa! transistor common).

12. OPERATION
<Precautions>
1. Alter turning ON the MRS/RT terminal, if the setting for Pr.79 is changed to any
value other than '7" in the PU operation mode, the MRS/RT termina! functions as
the ordinary MAS terminal (mechanical reset terminal) instead of the edit enable sig-
na! terminal. Then the operation mode is changed according to the new setting for
Pr.79.
2. When mocte changed is attempted between the externa! operation mode to the PU
operation mode with the MAS/AT terminal ON, the mode change will not occur if the
STF or STA terminal is ON.
3. In !he setting of Pr.79 e 7 with the MAS terminal ON, if the MRS terminal is turned
OFF while in the PU operation mode, the operation mode is changed to the externa!
operation mode independent of the ON/OFF status of the terminal (STF, STRj.
Therefore, if the MRS terminal is tumed OFF while either the STF or STR terminal
is ON, the motor is controlled in the externa! operation mode.
4. During the operation in the PU operation mode, the ordinary MAS lunc¡ion does not
work.
5. When the mode ís changed from the PU operation mode to the externa! operation
mode forcibly, the parameter unit is internally reset once to secure the monitor
screen.
6. lf an alarm has occurred, the inverter can be reset by pressing the stop key in the
PU operation mode. Resettíng of the inverter in the externa! operation mode is not
possible. Therefore, resetting the lnverter always changes the mode to the PU
operation mode.
7. lf motor is stopped in EXT mode by both STF-P24 and STR-P24, closing MRS/RT-
P24 will not forcibly change operation to PU operation mode.
8. STF·P24 or STR-P24 must be opened (stop) befare PU operation can be resumed.
9. The "STOP" key can be activated to operate in any mode by setting Pr.75 to 14, 15,
16 or 17.

Note: The error display at an occurrence of alarm stop is "E.PUE".
• Cautions on setting the paramet er unit disconnection detection function:
(1) JI the parameter unit is not connected at the start of operation, an alarm does not occur.
(2) Th1s function recognizes "disconneclion" when the parameter unit is disconnecled far more
than 1 second.
(3) To restart the inverter operation alter the occurrence of the d1sconnection alarm, confirm the
connection of the parameler unit and reset the inverter. (refer to page 43)
(4) lf the inverter is operaJed wiJhoul selecting the pararneter unit disconnection detection func-
tion, operalion is continued even alter the parameter unit is disconnected from the inverter,
which may create a hazaroous situation. Therefore, to ensure sale operation, it is recom-
mended that the parameter unit disconnection detectlOn funcbon be selected.

• lt is possible to select the motor speed by simply
changing the extemal contact signal across
terminals RH/RM/RUREX and P24.
• The allocation of RH , RM, RL and REX can be
set using Pr.59.
• The individual speeds (frequency) can be set as
required, in the ranga of O to 400Hz, while the
inverter is operating. Setting is also possible
using the [.AJ and (T] keys.
• By combining the setting for these parameters
with Pr.1 (upper limit lrequency) and Pr.2 (lower
timit trequency). setting of up to seventeen
speeds is possible.
Notes 1: lf "9999" (factory-setting) is set for Pr.24 to Pr.27 and Pr.126 to Pr.133, speed
4 to speed 15 are not selected.
2: In the multiple·speed setting, if more than two speeds are selected al the same
time, the lower frequency is output.
<Example> lf RH · P24 and RL · P24 are turned ON at the se1me time whife the
setting for high-speed (RH) is 60 Hz and low-speed (RL) is 50 Hz.
output frequency is SOHz.
3: lf the externa! thermal relay input Is selected, the multiple-speed 3 setting is not
valid, RL becomes the OH term inal. Fer multiple·speed operalion, use the value
for Pr.26 (RH + RM).
4: lf the multiple·speed signal and externa! frequency setting signa! are input, the
multiple·speed operalion is given priority.

24. TROUBLESHOOTING
Leakage Current
Belween the inpuVoutput lines of the inverter and in the motor, capacitance exists and dueto this
capacitance leakage current flows. Since amount of leakage curren! varies depending on the
capacilance and carrier frequency, leakage curren! will increase if low-noise operation is at-
tempted by higher carrier frequency setting. lt is necessary to take the measures indicated below
if such operation mode is required.
• Countermeasures
• Use an e!ectronic therrnal relay of the inverter.
• Instan a reactor on the output side.
• Lower the carrier frequency. This causes increased motor noise.
To protect the motor correctly without being affected by the leakage curren! between
the lines, the method to directly detect the motor sensor using a temperature sensor
is recommended.
Higher Harmonics
In the inverter, the converter circuit generales harmonics in the power supply. Harmonics must
be treated separately from noise and leakage current since its transmission style and frequency
band differ from them. For details, refer lo Mitsubishi.
