RAM PUMP WITH PIPE SIZE ADAPTER

Rationale of Study

A research done by students from Eastern Visayas State University – Ormoc City
Campus aims to evaluate the feasibility of a ram pump to provide water to rural communities
in Ormoc City, Leyte.

We’re going to design a hydraulic ram pump that will successfully elevate water
against gravity above the height of its source without using electricity.

Objective of Study

1. To design and fabricate ram pump having an efficient:

a. Materials are all metal
b. Fully welded
c. Well bolted and coupled
d. S.M.A.R.T. – Simple, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, & Time
Bound

2. To test the effectiveness of ram pump in terms:

a. Capacity
i. More than 1liter per 20 seconds
b. Pressure Head
i. Open flow
1. More than 1.7 bars
ii. Close flow
1. More than 4.2 bars
3. The acceptability of prototype
a. We will conduct a free product testing to our beloved community for a
week.
b. We will write their opinions and suggestions as a reference to our
study.

Significance of Study

The output of this study will give an insight about the performance and effectiveness
of a ram pump. Results that will be essential to the following:

 We the researchers ourselves will benefit from the study. The study will be
a learning opportunity for us where we could apply the theories and
principles of strength of materials, fluid mechanics, and etc. that are taught
in class activities and discussions.
 The study aims to provide water to those people living in rural areas that
are often having water shortage.
