Introducing our range of commercial boilers
Our boilers come in all shapes, sizes and materials. And we’re here to help you find the right fit. Each product
is different and has its own unique qualities. You can use this guide to browse through our range of wall hung
and floor standing boilers, and read on to find out more about the different types of boilers available.

Turning it down
Let’s look at turndown ratios. Turndown ratio refers to the width of the operational range
15:1
Turndown
of the boiler, and is defined as the ratio of the maximum capacity to minimum capacity.
In a typical modular boiler system each module could have a turndown ratio of 5 to 1. So
a vertical stack of 3 modules will have 15 to 1 turndown. This gives you a substantial range
of outputs.
For example:
1 x 250kW boiler module with 5:1 turndown ratio
A 3-high boiler stack would be 750kW
with a 15:1 boiler turndown ratio
This boiler can provide a seamless delivery of
energy at any output from 50kW up to 750kW.

But have you also considered the impact of replacing
one large output single boiler with multiple smaller
output modular boilers? The differences in gas

Traditionally, commercial heating Striving for maximum efficiencies
systems have been designed at
82/71°C or 80/60°C flow and The pursuit of low ownership costs from condensing boiler systems is a driver behind
this. If operating temperatures are reduced or delta T widened to offer a lower return
return. But, at these temperatures
temperature, then significant efficiency gains can be made.
a condensing boiler performs only
slightly better than a high efficiency The larger flow/return temperature differential was traditionally the reserve of large

capability with all the benefits associated with smaller condensing boilers – accurate

properly, thus extracting the waste For example, with a flow temperature of 80°C and return temperature of 40°C or
heat from flue gases, they need 50°C using natural gas, boilers have the opportunity to condense as well as provide

Now designers are looking to lower

Reducing costs
Under pressure
Designing a system that operates with
lower flow rates can provide benefits to Some modern condensing boilers can have quite significant pressure losses when
both, the installer and owner. operating with a narrow delta T. By using a wider delta T and thus, lower flow rate,
the pressure loss can be reduced having a substantial effect on pump size.
Lower flow rates lend themselves to Take a modern low water content boiler with reasonably high pressure loss associated
smaller pipe diameters. Smaller pipes are with the heat exchanger. If design differential temperature is increased from 20°C
cheaper to purchase, easier to install and to 40°C, the flow rate through the boiler will be halved. The associated pressure loss
waste less energy as they have lower heat through the boiler however is not just halved, but quartered. This allows the use of
emission rates due to a smaller surface smaller pumps with lower purchase cost and reduced lifetime energy consumption.
area. The water content of the heating
system will also be lower, having a direct
saving on chemical dosing and inhibitors
for water treatment.
The rise of the heat network
More projects are now specifying dual heating sources – where condensing boilers are
used to support the renewable energy source.
CIBSE guidance AM12 – Combined heat and power for buildings, makes specific
reference to designing district heating schemes with a minimum of 30°C differential
temperature. This is to keep flow rates and pipe sizes small, and maintain a low return

1) Burner lengths vary by model.
2) The boiler door including burner should be able to swing open through 90° providing access to the burner head and
combustion chamber for cleaning and maintenance.
3) A minimum distance of 200mm must be maintained between boiler casings. It should be noted that burners vary in length
by model and this distance may need increasing.
4) At least 200mm should be allowed to the side of the boiler for fitting the casing. After fitting the casing, the boiler may be
moved closer to the wall, but no closer than 60mm.

continuous output ranging from 228 litres/hour to 2,400 litres/hour.
Halstock calorifiers
The Halstock range of calorifiers provide an alternative to the Powerstock
where stainless steel is the preferred choice. Stainless steel cylinders are
often chosen for their anode-free corrosion protection, particularly in
areas of the country with soft water.
A highly durable, simple and easy to maintain product for efficient
generation of domestic hot water. The Halstock range has 5 models
available in open vented and unvented options. All models are approved
by the Water Regulations Advisory Service (WRAS).
With correct design and installation plus the use of intelligent controls, solar thermal
systems can use free solar energy by harnessing the power of the sun to reduce gas bills
and help combat climate change.

When using a direct fired unit, the heating and hot water

Separation or integration Which product
should I choose?
Historically, indirect fired systems had a dedicated hot water
boiler used solely for heating a calorifier. But with the high
efficiencies of today’s boilers the same boiler can now be used
for both the heating circuit and the DHW system. This is down to personal preference and how the
application is being used. There are pros and cons to
using each method and we would always recommend

Introduction to flues
Our boilers and water heaters are suitable for many flue systems and we can provide flue components to
suit these schemes. You can choose from the flue types below or a bespoke flue system can be designed by
our flue partner, Midtherm.
A concentric flue system will have the option for the terminal to
be positioned horizontally for exiting the building through the
wall, (subject to IGEM UP10 regulations) or vertically through
the roof. The need to only penetrate the building (roof or wall)
with a single hole is an advantage.
How to order flue components Full details of flue systems can be seen in the individual product brochures.
To simplify the flue ordering process, Hamworthy has a flue order form available for you to call off all your flue component
requirements. To request a flue system order form, telephone 01202 662500 or email sales@hamworthy-heating.com and state
which flue system you are planning to use.

This chart will help you correctly size your low loss header to the boiler output at certain differential temperatures. Even if you have an existing low loss header you
must check the size. It is advisable to check existing primary pumps suit the flow and head requirements for the new boilers.
