Juan Luna

The Parisian Life

Description:

The painting shows a woman sitting on a

couch in a diner. The woman is wearing a
pale lavender frock and hat embellished with
flowers that reflects the 18th century's style
in fashion. The painting also includes three
men in the other table at the far left corner of
the painting and one of the men is staring at
the woman. They are wearing a hat inside the diner even though it isn't rainy.

Analyse:

The painting shows dark colours. The artist shows an impressionistic way of painting which
emphasizes the texture of every object in the painting. The characters are seemingly real in the
painting.

Interpretation:

I think the painting is about a woman relaxing herself inside the diner staring blankly trying to
deal with her problems and the other man who was staring at the woman noticed her and
thinking of helping her out.

Judgement:

Based on my opinion, the painting is good since the artist gives impressive texture by his
artwork. Although the artwork appears dark the artist uses some vivid colours to highlight the
woman, and the artist himself shows his uniqueness on painting the picture.

Critique: Ajonay Festival

Ajonay is a festival dance that reflects the culture of Filipinos. The even is held every
month of August. To most maasinhons (people that lives in maasin city) the word "Ajonay"
means a call for cooperation by the community to realize community goals. This call for
"Ajonay" signifies the the Bayanihan spirit where every member of the community helps each
other. Recently, it was performed at the terminal. Many people came to watch the performers
dance. The dancers were from Manhilo National High School (Pundok Panaghiusa), Guadalupe
National High School (Pundok Kan Iwanon), System Technology Institute (Ajo-aju), and
Dongon National High School (Pundok pagtinabangay). All of which performed their dances.

The Ajonay Festival dance conceptualized as a jolly activity that involves rhythmic
dancing. All the dancers execute their dance that have a good form of communication mixed
with dramas an integral content. The dancers also showed their creativeness for the materials
they used for their dance and how Godly we can be as Filipinos. Although their dance was very
good there were some dancers that put less effort to their dance and some were not organized.
However, unlike any dance Ajonay Festival dance in Maasin City is the best because even
though it's simple people will enjoy watching it since the dance is meant for a purpose and that is
for us to help one another. That reflects how Maasinhon are very helpful to other people.

Ajonay festival is for all ages to watch and just because it's a popular festival dance in the
philippines doesn't mean we all have the same style of dancing and I recommend this for
everybody to watch especially if the person watching it is not from Maasin City since that person
can easily know the Maasinhon’s culture.
