IDENTITY OF THE BOOK
Critical book is the result of criticism / comparison about a material topic that is
generally in lectures on book. The writing of this critical book is basically to compare 1 English
Young Learners books that will be used as reference source. Any book made by a particular
author must have its own flaws and advantages. The feasibility of a book we can know if we
make a review of the book by comparison to other books. A book with more dominant
advantages compared with its shortcomings means that this book is worthy to be used and used
as a reference source for the public.
The purpose of this book is to introduce some guiding principles for TEYL and to show
how these can be used to help teachers develop classroom practices that are both enjoyable and
beneficial for the groups of young learners they work with. Our focus will be on working with
young learners from first grade to Grade 6 (or children from 5–12 years of age) as this is the area
of TEYL that has seen most rapid expansion in recent years. However, the principled reflective
approach to TEYL we introduce here can also be adopted in the teaching of preschool children
and older young learners in the lower reaches of secondary schooling.
In this book there is key features of Teaching English To Children to language Teaching

techniques and approach in the classroom. The book contains lots of practical ideas for
developing the four language skill areas and illustrates how this work can be organized and
intergrated particularly by means of topic work.

CHAPTER II
SUMMARY OF THE BOOK
Reading is also the language skill which is easist to keep up many of us can still read
in a foreign language that we used to be able to speak as well.
There are a number of different ways to approach the introduction of reading in a foreign
language.
1. Phonics
This approach is based on letters and sounds. Basically, we teach the pupils the letters pf
the alphabet and the combination of letters , phonically as they are actually pronounced
so that the letter a is pronounced.
2. Look and say
This approachs is based on words and phrases, and makes a lot of use flashcards words. It
is usual to start by teaching everyday words which are already familiar to the children.
3. Whole sentence reading
Here the teacher teaches recognition of whole phrases and sentences which have meaning
in themselves. It means a story which the children read for the first time themselves after
the whole text is familiar to them.
4. Language experience approach
This approach to reading is based on the child's language. The teacher writes down a
sentence for the child to read which is based on what the child has said.
Clearly, if there was one correct method for teaching all children to read, ghen only one
method would exist. We favour an approach which concentrates on meaning from the
beginning.
Silent reading
Reading aloud can be useful for learning and what is a good teacher for the rest of their lives.
Nobody can guarantee that all your pupils will love books, but a positive attitude to books and
reading from the beginning will help.
Building up confidence
• Some children are willing to read books as soon as they can, but you should spend
some time building up confidence with the whole class about silent reading.
• Give pupils only half the story, and discuss what happens next in the mother
tongue. See how many different endings are possible, then let them read the rest of the
story to see if they were right.
• For the eight to ten year olds who are beyond the beginner level, you might want
to use silent reading as the starting point for role play for a smaller group. If the book is
written in dialogue form, then they might want to act some of it out for the rest of the
class.
Once your pupils are on the road to reading, it is important that there is a wide range of
individual choice of reading materials available to them as possible.
There are different ways of introducing new books to the pupils Ideally, at the five to seven
stages you should read all the new books to the whole class, but there isn't usually time for this.
However, a new book should not just appear. You can
a) show the pupils new book and tell them what it's about.
b) look at the cover of the book and try to work out with the pupıls what it might be
about.
Book reviews
It is always a good idea to find out what a book is, even if they stop half way through. Book
reviews
e) show that you are concerned about what your pupils are reading
1 Which of the ways of teaching reading are familiar to you? Were you taught to read
using one of them? How are pupils taught to read their own language in your country?
2 Look at the section on reading aloud on pages 57 to 60 Can you think of times other
than those mentioned here when it would be useful for your pupils to read aloud either to
you, the teacher, or to other pupils?
3 We have mentioned a number of introducing new books to the pupils. Which do you
think would be the most effective? Can you think of any other ways of introducing new
books?
.
CHAPTER III
STRENGTH
This chapter is enough to discuss about English for Young Learners, because the contents
in this chapter explain about learning reading.
Authors explain about approaches in reading and different ways to approach reading in
foreign language.
This chapter also explain how to teach reading for children, for example what kind of
reading approach which will be used in 5 to 7 years old.
And the sentence or word that used by the author is easy to understand, according to us
this chapter is recommended to read, especially for future teacher.
WEAKNESS
After reading Chapter V , we found several weaknesses. The picture in this book is also colorless,
this will also reduce the interest of the reader. It will be better if the author make a color in this
picture, so it can help the teacher’s to imagine should they do in classroom. The picture in this
chapter are also unclear, means that the picture less complete.
CHAPTER IV
CONCLUSION
In this conclusion that reading is a process that is carried out and used by the reader to get
the message, the method used to communicate with themselves and sometimes others, which
communicates the meaning contained or implied in written symbols. Reading is also the
language skill we use to speak. However, reading aloud is a useful technique when used a little
differently.
