Intel ISEF Display and Safety Regulations

The following items are NOT allowed to be displayed at or on the project

board:
1. Living organisms, including plants
2. Taxidermy specimens or parts
3. Preserved vertebrate or invertebrate animals
4. Human or animal food
5. Human/animal parts or body fluids (exceptions: teeth, hair, dried bones,
histological dry mount sections, completely sealed wet mount tissue slides)
6. Plant materials (living, dead, or preserved) which are in their raw, unprocessed, or
non-manufactured state)
7. Laboratory/household chemicals including water
8. Poisons, drugs, controlled substances, hazardous substances or devices (firearms,
weapons, ammunition, reloading devices)
9. Dry ice or other sublimating solids
10. Sharp items (syringes, needles, pipettes, knives)
11. Flames or highly flammable materials
12. Batteries with open-top cells
13. Awards, medals, business cards, flags, acknowledgements, etc.
14. Photographs or other visual presentations depicting vertebrate animals in surgical
techniques, dissections, necropsies, or other lab procedures
15. Active Internet or e-mail connections as part of displaying or operating the project
at the Intel ISEF
16. Student names on the front and photos that include the student’s face.

No cultures of any kind may be grown or tested on.

No illegal materials (including tobacco and alcohol) can be tested.
 LOOKING GOOD!
 TITLE : Print neatly, stencil, cut out, or computer type words
for your display. Each word can be made on a separate piece
of white paper eliminating many mistakes on the board.
 TITLE/REPORT : Glue each word or report onto a dark/bold
colored background paper. Using two colors or double
mounting letters and words works well.
 PICTURES : Using photos or drawings help to make your
display more colorful.
 PLACEMENT : Before gluing your project to the backboard,
try placing all items in different locations to see what looks
best. Placement of your report makes all the difference. Be
sure items are placed in order (follow the scientific method).
Center items and balance things on the display board.
 GLUE : Use glue sparingly. A glue stick works well. When using
white glue, only use a small dot of glue in the corners of your
papers.

Your project will be judged on how well you follow the scientific method. Use this
checklist to make sure that you have included all necessary information.

 Does my project look neat and appealing?
