Creating An Effective Simulation Training

Having a ‘eureka’ moment during your simulation training can be overwhelming,

especially when you discover the best solution that no one in the entire world has
discovered ever. With the help of simulation, individuals can have the opportunity to
see the world beyond it and understand deeply the abstract concepts. However, to
get the results that simulators want to achieve, it is vital to create successful and
effective trainings using simulations. Here are some of the concepts one should
know when creating a simulation.

First, the designer should not confuse simulation with replication. The work here is
for the designer to have a closer look on the details to the essence of realism. It may
be logical to have a simulation closer to reality, but this can be valid for some only
like a flight simulation. Sometimes, when the simulation is replicated wholly into the
reality, participants would find it exaggerated and they will be overwhelmed. It will
collapse of its own problem. Second, one should select the right issue to simulate.
There are some characteristics you need to look for when choosing the subject for
your simulation. (1) You have to see the world through the lens of other’s eyes. In
this way, you can evaluate the right subject to choose that will appeal and will help
the customers. (2) Tasks should be performed simultaneously. Successful
simulation training offers tasks that can be done all at once. (3) It must develop the
ability of the person to work under pressure. Simulation gives opportunity to people
to develop and practice their skills under pressure. (4) It will help the individual
recognise his cognitive contradictions or dissonance. He might have contradictory
beliefs that left unnoticed, and by taking simulation, he can discover that wrong
beliefs and thereby correct them. Third, one should develop a plan. When planning a
design plan, (1) you should consider whether you will be making it with a team or
not, and (2) if you should employ a creative process or just go with the flow.

Next, you should design the simulation training with symbols and metaphors to
deal with emotionally charged ideas. Then you should develop appropriate
assessment for the performance of an individual. Assessments should teach the
individual ethics and develop their skills in teamwork. And finally, designers should
set their standards for success, which means you should set goals before designing
the simulation. In this way, you will not be side-tracked by other elements when
creating your simulation. You should learn to listen for advices as well--be it good or
not. And also, you must be ready to make modifications when you find out there’s
something wrong with your simulation training. Remember, be objective and get
closer to your purpose until you experience your own ‘eureka’ moment.
